It would have been a 5 except for one thing.

My wife and I spent our Anniversary at this Resort and the staff was amazing! We visited Chichen Itza on our first day and I highly recommend this despite not being able to visit the whole site due to time restraints. On the second day they had a show and I have to say that it felt like we had the best seats thanks to the hostess knowing it was our Anniversary. Then after the show our waiter and the hostess brought us a cake with candles for us. The staff is very special and very hard working please don’t hold the next part about the dolphins against the hotel staff. You don’t have bracelets to wear or have to schedule your dinner reservations. It’s first come first serve so you may have to wait a few minutes but it was worth it. Okay now the only bad part. We paid for my wife to swim with the Dolphins and I was going to take pictures of her. The staff around the dolphins was very rude to me then accused me of lying about it to my wife. Other areas around the hotel have dolphins and manatees, I highly recommend you find a different location for swimming with the dolphins.

Nice and relaxing

I'll begin this review by saying we would definitely return to this resort. The service and staff are absolutely outstanding. That being said, the resort is aging and needs some attention. The beach isn't all that pristine, the food was ok. Some was good, some not so good. Over the weekend there were a lot of loud, drunk people. We were tricked into accepting a "special anniversary gift" that was nothing more than a 90 minute sales presentation. But, the resort treated us well and provides a lot of entertainment. You would enjoy time there.

Super clean, super service

The upgrade to the preferred club on the top floor was well worth it. The view was spectacular. The room was large and the ac worked perfect. The beach was nice and the overall resort was very clean. The service was awesome. Everyone goes out of their way for you. We rented a golf cart for a couple days to drive around the neighborhood. It’s super safe as the whole area of puerto aventura is secure with one main guarded entrance. The only down side was the lack of restaurant options. One day we were there, all the restaurants were closed except the buffet. We had room service for dinner every night which was very good. The presentation was great as was the service. It never took more than about 20 minutes for our dinner. This was our second trip to a dreams resort and we will definitely visit them again.

service is great, value is good, not a 4.5 star

While the service was great and the employees at Dreams Puerto Aventuras were wonderful, this was the worst vacation we have booked through Cheapcaribbean. Here's why: 1. Check-in was a nightmare. Our group of four had two rooms reserved, but the hotel only had one room for us. Instead of solving the problem, Dreams (which is owned by Apple Leisure Group) made me call Cheapcaribbean (also owned by Apple Leisure Group) in the U.S. from my cell phone in the lobby of the hotel in Mexico. It was a joke! Took hours to sort out. It was their mistake, but I had to fix it. 2. On the 4th evening of our 7-night stay, I got sick. And I mean sick, sick. Some type of stomach bug. Fever, chills, aches, the whole lot. Did not leave the room for the rest of the trip and got out of bed only to use the toilet. I saw the Doctor on site and he was great. I needed antibiotics, an anti-inflammatory (via a shot), and an Imodium type of medicine. Was still sick when we got home. So I only enjoyed one-half of my vacation, yet I paid an additional $315. I don't recall seeing, smelling, or eating anything funky, and nobody else in our group got sick, but my vacation was all but ruined. 3. If you like walking on the beach, this is not the resort for you. The beach is only what is literally in front of the resort. Rocks barricade you to the left and right. Pretty to look at, but not practical if you like to go in the water or stroll along the beach. 4. The resort is dated, but that did not bother me. It was clean and in working order. The problem was with the room itself. Let's just say it was "moist." All the time. Nothing in the room dried - my hair, the towels, bathing suits, etc. Even clothes that I had not yet worn were damp when I put them on. Sounds odd, but it's true. You are in for a moist experience if you choose this place. 5. We did not go to any of the entertainment shows at the theater, nor did we go to the disco or sports bar. They were located deep inside the bowels of this resort. No A/C. No open-air seating or windows even. Typically, we like to sit outside after dinner and have cocktails while watching, out of one eye only, the entertainment for the evening. If we love the show, we pay more attention, and if not, it's background music. But not at this resort. I vacation for the beach and sun and weather in general and don't want to be stuck inside sweating. 6. Outside of getting sick, the food at this resort is meh. Some good, some bad, but nothing amazing. We've had better quality and options at every other place we have stayed (whether owned by Apple Leisure Group or not). The Mexican place was probably the best of the bunch. Having explained why I would not recommend this resort, and why Cheapcaribbean is out of their mind categorizing it as a 4.5 star/sun (whatever), I have to give a shout-out to the excellent service we received from everyone (except for check-in). These folks work hard, smile a lot, and aim to please. Particularly good service from Edgar, Veronica, Marco, and Giovanni. Our server at the sushi restaurant (and no, that's not what made me sick, because I do not eat sushi, fish, or seafood) was the only employee who did not provide amazing service. I wish I could say that we loved this place, but we didn't. We had a great time making the best of it, and my companions (who did not get sick) enjoyed the week for sure, but I would not go back to Dreams Puerto Aventuras.

What's to Love

As of June 2018 you can bring your furry friend along!

The sparkling champagne and icy towels that clear out your travel cobwebs.

Swimming with the darling dolphins at the Dolphinarium. (They kiss & handshake, too).

The suites with swoon-worthy views of teal waves, dolphins or manicured gardens.

The comfy beds and even comfier bathrobes and slippers.

Turndown service each night with chocolates. Sweet dreams.

The private white sand beach with the 30-person Jacuzzi. Woot!

Explorer's club (kids 3-12) with everything from sand castle contests to Plant a Tree & Corn Harvest Project.

Red Cross certified staff supervise the aforementioned club. A relief, right?

Parents get a pager from the Explorer's club, should they be needed for anything.

Treatments like the Post-Sun Exposure Soothing Facial and Chocolate Body Wrap. Delish.

The Stargazing Rock 'n Roll party. Aahh-mazing stuff.

Dining by the ocean with only the stars and candles to light your night. There's a fee, but life is short.

What We'd Change

The resort's beach offers shallow waters so, while you won't be wave-surfing here, bring your snorkel gear and splash into the crystal-clear waters and explore the amazing coral reefs.

Why You Should Go

It's 60 miles from the airport, but once you get there you'll be glad you're tucked away.

Upgrade to the Preferred Club, get free access to wet areas of the spa, afternoon hot and cold hors d' oeuvres, and more.

To take in some antiquity, the majestic Mayan ruins of Xcaret and Tulum are a fun excursion.

It's only 15 minutes south of the beautiful Playa del Carmen.

You get a complimentary round at the Riviera Maya Golf Club through Dec. 23, 2017. Schwing.

Rent a scooter/moped and do some exploring.

Set sail with Catamarans, windsurfing, snorkeling, sailboats and kayaks.

Channel your inner artiste with painting and ceramics.

Check out the euro-bungee and ocean trampoline, then bounce on over to the mini golf course.

Work on your beach bod with aerobics, water aerobics and yoga.

There's Intro to Scuba in the pool - FREE!

Mix things up with dance, cooking and Spanish lessons. Learning is fun, even on vacay.
