Great except for the seaweed

I loved the resort itself. Great drinks and service. The food was mostly good and the entertainment was great. But me and my wife are big beach people. We rented a cabana on the beach for 3 days which was awesome. All that being said I would not go back because the seaweed is out of control. Even with a crew of 4-5 staff with 2 baby front in loads and they still could not control the seaweed. Water looked more like a lake than an ocean. This is a problem for whole coast so I would visit secrets again just in a different location.

Amazing Resort

Just returned about a week ago from this resort. I took my boyfriend and it was his first experience with an all inclusive vacation. We had an amazing time. The food was very good, only thing we found that we didnt like was the pizza which is not that big of a deal at all, cant expect something from the US like that to be what it tastes like at home. The room was clean and the air worked great, almost too good....i was cold, a lot. All the staff members were over the top, everyone did anything they could to make our stay phenomenal, even when we didnt ask. We were late risers a lot and housekeeping likely was annoyed with us because they had to keep leaving hangers on our doors notifying us that our do not disturb light was on and they were there to clean, but the concierge on our floor had no issue sending them later and they seemed more than happy to clean for us. The drink selection was great! I am a beer drinker so i was hoping for corona and they had it! They also had bud light and modelo. If you like bananas order a banana daiquiri. I liked the miami vice (pina colada and strawberry daiquiri together) and the riviera maya.....strawberry daiquiri and some other kind of orange liquor mixed...very good. Bring your own insulated cups, its hot and they will melt very fast in their cups! We spent most of our time on the beach, it was easy to find loungers under the cabanas, but being out in the sun wasnt bad because of the breeze. The seaweed was not bad at all our first few days, but there was a few storms in the area when we flew in which i assume tore up a lot of seaweed further out to sea and on our 5th day you could see massive "clouds" of it floating in, there was so much it was piled super high and they were doing all they could to get rid of it, using skid loaders and raking non stop. I felt terrible for the workers and thought they deserved more of a tip than anyone with how hot it was out and nonstop trying to keep the beach clean as possible. Overall, this was probably the best resort i have ever been to considering everything and i have been to some real dumps in the past. I am worried that my boyfriend will now have that same expectation that this resort gave us and he will be very disappointed with future trips lol. For the cost we paid and what this resort gave, it was truly amazing. we will be returning again. well done secrets!

Loved it

We went with a group of couples in early April. We used the Amstar transfer service, they were there ready and waiting, the bus was comfortable and air conditioned. When we got there, we were greeted with champagne and a cool nice smelling towel, we were checked in quickly, our room wasn’t ready until 3pm, which we anticipated by bringing our swimsuits in our carry-on, so we could change in the restroom and go out to the pool. The reception area has a bar, and is very open and airy with a large water feature and places to sit. It opens to the grand staircase, which takes you down to the pool. The pool is large and has plenty of padded loungers with umbrellas and tables for everyone. There is a smoking area with tables and seats near this area for those who need it. The pool bar is walk up on one side and swim up on the other. The pool has really nice floating loungers for use, although some guests try to monopolize their use. The pool itself is pretty, and the size is perfect, however, it needs to be redone and I scratched the bottom of my toe on it, which caused me some discomfort from the sand getting into it. We loved the beach, there are plenty of chairs set up under huts with a table to give you shade. We really liked the beach cabanas as well. Waiters come out and bring you drinks on the beach, our favorite was Orlando, he’s the best. He works so hard out there and he’s really good at what he does. We chose to tip the workers, we tipped the waiters, bartenders and housekeeping. Tips can be in American dollars or pesos. There’s no need to exchange money, although we did just in case. Nightly entertainment was nice although we didn’t take specific advantage of it since we had a large group, we were our own entertainment most of the time! You can go into Playa Del Carmen to shop, just talk to the desk and they will tell you what to do. It had a mall and also stores and souvenir shops. When you get out of the taxi, a guy will tell you he’s your waiter at your resort, come see his uncles silver and tequila shops, don’t believe him. It’s a way to get you into their stores, although the stores are nice, if you want to buy jewelry, it’s not a bad place to get it. The restaurants were all good, but men, bring your pants! They enforce the dress code. Everyday that we spent there was lovely and we would absolutely go back again. Beach sand was soft and white, the ocean was nice except the windy days bring in more seaweed.
