We had a very nice time

I usually don't do reviews, everyone has there one experience. For us this resort was way to big. From our room to the lobby we had to wait for the trolley some times 5 min other times 25 min. We were lucky enough to be placed right by the pool, that made the trip awesome. The food is just OK they say the restaurants are not buffet style but they all are except one. The bar at the pool is awesome and the pool it self is awesome. But if you want to enjoy the beach and want a drink you have to make a 10 min hike to the closest bar, that was kind of a buzz kill. All in All the resort was beautiful, the staff was excellent polite and kind. If you like a resort where you can walk around, walk to the pool/beach, walk to the lobby bar, walk to dinner, etc than this resort is not for you. This place is massive From the lobby to the pool its well over a mile away. That was the only bummer about the trip.

A 3 Star Rating Is Generous

This resort is just too big for comfort. Period. Yes there are trolleys and golf carts available to take one to and fro, however, waiting for this transportation will leave you a hot, sticky, melted mess especially if you decide to dress nice for dinner and dare to apply a bit of makeup. Speaking of dinner or any type of dining, the restaurants here are hit or miss and very disappointing. The buffets are just plain awful and unsanitary. Flies buzzing and landing all over the food, birds in the food. Just disgusting. The Vietnamese and Italian restaurants were excellent. The Japanese restaurant has the right idea, however, the food is overcooked and flavorless. The bars are decent and the staff are very attentive, however, the drinks are very much watered down. For this to have been the adults only side of the resort, kids were EVERYWHERE. There is no escaping them. So if you want a real adults only experience, DO NOT stay here. There is supposed to be an adults only beach, saw kids. An adults only pool, saw kids. An adults only lobby, there were more kids. If you get my point, there is nothing adults only about this resort. We upgraded to Level when we arrived and it was not worth it. You literally pay hundreds of extra dollars just to be closer to the beach which is so laden with seaweed, you can barely enjoy it. The rooms, while comfortable, are extremely small and the wifi does not work at all. There are some good things about this place: the staff are amazing, the grounds are beautiful, the pools are awesome and there are lots of activities. If you get the chance, please do attend the Silent Disco party. Hands down the best night of the whole trip. All in all, I would definitely visit Punta Cana again, however, Melia would be at the bottom of my list of resort choices.

Perfect yet uneasy feeling

For the most part the resort was amazing. The pool was filthy however. There was actual sludge in the pool at spots as if the filter and skimmers were not working properly. There were no waiters at the pool at all. The paper cups by the pool were awful. The flies on the food at Rumba was awful. The worst and scariest part was the Dominican man in the pool trying to pick up a young girl while being completely intoxicated and lounge. It made us stay away from the pool bar for two days because the rowdiness of this Dominican man and his friends were frightening. I would not come back just because of this unsafe feeling.

DO NOT STAY HERE

I was so disappointed with this resort. First off we were "upgraded" to a room closer to the beach; because the resort is HUGE you have to be transported everywhere which is very inconvenient. We then find out that our hotel room was in poor condition. We couldn't turn on the tv because our tv was making a horrible noise, our bed sheets were moist the entire time we were there. At first i thought it was the first day and maybe there wasn't enough time to dry the sheets but no, every single day for 5 days our bed sheets were moist. It was extremely disgusting and uncomfortable. Additionally, everywhere you go to dine there are flies all over the food, silverware, YOU! its so gross, i get that we are in the tropics but its unbearable. You try to eat your food and the flies are just flying into your face and plate. On the top of that the staff is extremely PUSHY! They push you to book excursions within the hotel and to take a tour of the new hotel property. This is a tour that pushes you into joining a hotel membership, the staff tricked me and my partner TWICE to this "optional" presentation. I was very disappointed because everyone pretends to be nice but there's always a double intention. I would just stay away, I deff wont be going back!

What's to Love

Hangin' on the sugar-white sandy beach, cocktail in hand, watching the azure waves roll in.
De-stressing at the two delicious spas that each have private gardens and Jacuzzis.
The food - travelers reports that everything, especially the steak and lobster tails, is crazy good.
Two ginormous, free-form pools, each with swim-up bars for your day drinking pleasure.

What We'd Change

It might be gorgeous, but this place is huge! That's why we love the complimentary shuttles that take guests around the resort.

Why You Should Go

It's just 20 minutes from the airport - you'll be basking in the warm Dominican sun, pronto.
Adult beverages will be around every palm with all of the bars you have to choose from.
Bring your A game because a 27-hole championship golf course is right across the street.
