Riviera Maya: Mexico's Vacation Treasure
Don't just dream of frosty margaritas and sun-drenched days; make them come true with a Riviera Maya vacation! Good vacations are easy, but if you want something that tops the charts, these Riviera Maya excursions and attractions are just the ticket!
Take a page from pop culture and get to know the truth behind those Mayan legends with Riviera Maya excursions to Chichen Itza or Tulum. While most folks have heard the story about Chichen Itza, Tulum is just as intriguing with its seaside location on a dramatic bluff. However, don't forget your comfy shoes so you can scale several of the structures for breathtaking views while pretending you're Indiana Jones. (Don't worry. We won't tell).
While these are great sites to learn about the Mayans, no trip to Riviera Maya is complete without stopping by Xcaret! This eco-archaeological park treats guests to mesmerizing stage performances, neat exhibits (like the Coral Reef Aquarium) and some of the best white-sand beaches, lagoons and natural pools around. Don't miss the night show to cap off a great day. Part history lesson, part amusement park and part water wonderland, Xcaret is the perfect recipe for fun that you can't miss out on!
If you still haven't had your fill of water, splash into the world's second largest coral reef just off the coast. Akumal and Tulum beaches are the doorways to crystal-clear water and a mysterious underwater world filled with colorful fish, sharks and majestic sea turtles. For the adventurist, we recommend cenote diving, so you can explore the awesome caves of freshwater that make up the Yucatan's unique underground river system.
Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve is one of our favorite Riviera Maya attractions. With a name that's Mayan for "where the sky is born" this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is unique for its biological diversity. The 1.3 million acres are home to part of the second largest barrier reef (great snorkeling), lagoons and ruins that may be visited with a guide. It's a great spot for birding watching, fishing and kayaking!
Of course, a Riviera Maya vacation is also about enjoying the region's beautiful beaches and cool pools. While our fabulous resorts are reason enough to go, we hope you'll make time for these exciting Riviera Maya excursions. Afterall, where else can history be so much fun?
