AMAZING VACATION

I booked this vacation as a surprise 30th for my boyfriends birthday. We arrived at sunset for check in and were blown away by the breathtaking view. The room was comfortable, all the necessities but nothing over the top. It was clean with a great balcony. Everyday we woke up for breakfast where you can have omelets along with the buffet. We spent hours at the beautiful beach, pool and walking to a dirt pier by the coast guard station. You will find you are in an extremely SAFE area! The resort offers chairs to be brought down to the beach so it’s easy to spend hours relaxing. Lunch you can have at the pool bar or at the restaurant. Dinner you can have at the restaurant which offers many great dishes or at the italian restaurant which was also delicious. I did a private dinner n the beach and it was phenomenal. Between the view and the food it was the perfect night. If you want more dining options there are 3 restaurants located right around the resort and an amazing ice cream roll stand. If you rent a golf cart you can head to Playa Potrero or Conchal and enjoy the beaches and restaurants. Flamingo is a great place to stay with a lot to offer.

Overall a good stay!

Overall I would recommend Flamingo resort. It does take almost 2 hours to get from from airport. I went thru cheap Caribbean for taxi to and from airport. They were friendly and timely. We also used hotel to book taxi to Tamarindo- a town that is 30mins south of the resort($50). If you don't have cell service and are not fluent in Spanish, I would prearrange a time and place for them to pick you up. There are a few restaurants and a souvenir shop right outside and within walking distance and a very small casino(has slots and 1-3 blackjack tables). But that's it. So that's why we went into Tamarindo. It was a nice little town. Besides this town most of the areas in around is rural and poor. However, everyone is nice and seemed safe. My husband and I never felt unsafe We also booked an excursion to the water slide, mud bath, hot springs, and horse back riding and zip lining. The tour was about a 2 hour ride to get there and the same coming back. It was a long day, but very fun! We paid $120/person. They also provide lunch and bottled water. It was well worth the money. We booked thru hotel also The pool was nice. Very clean. Resort is very clean. Our room was large. The A/C was great. We had trouble figuring out the shower. Having to pull up on the faucet knob thingie was something we had to figure out to get hot water. Once, we did that. Our showers were nice and hot. Flamingo beach is very nice. Most of the locals leave u alone. You do have to cross a very small dirt road to get to beach. It's very clean! Very small waves. The sand is soft. No rocks. You don't have to wear water shoes. Can go barefoot. The Pacific(for me) is very cold. I'm used to the Gulf of Mexico which is very warm in the summers. Same with pool-was a bit cold for me The restaurants were overall very good. The food was good. The drinks are very good!(not sure how strong they are) I would say the service is where this place is lacking. It's not like bigger resorts. There are fewer waiters/waitresses. They seem slow to take your order or bring you a drink. But overall they get the job done. Be prepared to serve yourself coffee and OJ in the mornings. It may just be their culture, I'm not sure. Their servers do work a lot. You do see the same people everyday- they may just be tired.. but I would say the service and the cooler water temps were the only negatives to me. we went during their summer and dry season(mid February). The temps were warmer, but not too hot. Had a nice breeze. And in the mountains/excursions it's even a little cooler And for Costa Rica as a whole things are more expensive. Chips and snacks at the hotel shop were $10 or more. (So pack your own!) So we just used the resort for food and drinks and didn't eat out or buy many extras Good luck! And as the locals say "pura vida"!

Overall a good stay!

Not Really a Beach Resort

A great place to stay, but... Yes, the resort is "on the beach," but that beach* is across the street. It's a public beach, and all the locals use it. Don't plan on having a beach chair on the sand unless you bring one from home. The resort does not allow chairs taken across the street. There are only two dining options at the resort. Food at each is excellent. 1. The main dining room that offers a limited menu and big buffet 2. Pizza parlor The bartenders and wait staff are well trained and genuinely friendly. Great service. The room was ample sized, clean, and comfortable. Multiple pools [adults and kids] and a swim-up bar. In addition, they offer a variety of activities, from biking, diving and deep sea fishing to excursions into the interior, including zip lining, water slides [almost half a mile long], horseback riding, and hot springs. Fun for all interests. If you don't need to tan in the sand, it's a great place to stay. *The sunset views are spectacular!

Relaxing at the Flamingo

Nice, quiet, small resort. No hokey nightclub shows. Had occasional singers or guitar players at the Open Air Bar, which were great. This is NOT the place to go if you are wild and crazy and all about the night life. Which is why we LOVED it. Gorgeous pool, plenty of beach chairs. Extremely clean resort.
