    Nice property, good stay

We spend a few nights at the Hotel Rui Guanacaste in March. Overall the stay was comfortable and relaxing. We had a two room suite, which was quite comfortable for our family of four. The rooms are fairly well equipped, with comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. The food options were ok. I expected better from the a la carte restaurants. There was no method for reservations, which resulted in long waits if you want to eat early. Some of the restaurants were closed on the days we wanted to attend them, so we only got to go to the Italian option. The food there was ok, and the service was adequate. The lunch buffet left a lot to be desired - not many options, items that should be hot were barely warm, and there were flies EVERYWHERE! The pool is nice. The lower level is great for families with younger kids. The area around the bar had a bit of a party atmosphere - not for everyone, but we didn't mind it. We actually got to meet some interesting people and enjoyed hanging around the area with the music. We had a fantastic snorkeling experience with the on-site provider (Scuba Caribe). If you're looking to go snorkeling or try scuba, talk to the Rastaman - he's super friendly and did a great job with us and our kids. Overall, the resort was nice. Not the best we've been in, but certainly not a bad experience.

    Riu Gunacaste

Great resort for families and really enjoyed the beach and water slides. Shows were entertaining and a la carte were good. Beautiful view from our room and really enjoyed our family time at this resort. Only down side was elevators weren’t working and we were on 4th floor so lots of stairs to climb on the last few days.

    Wonderful time!

I would recommend staying at the Riu Guancaste. The pools are wonderful and room was excellent. They have many food choices. Not great beach but the pools are great. Many excursions if you so desire to do so!

I will not go back as long as Sunwing people are selling rip off tours

We 4 older people, spent 7 days, booked 2 tours on the plane, they sell you on them. We were not able make the 2nd tour that had a 4 am. in the morning wake up call to leave at 5 am. and we would not get back to the hotel until 9 pm. that night, the first tour was to long and tiring we stood in the sun for hours, we asked but got no refund, charley the Sunwing rep told me to get a Doctors line.We tried to reschedule but the sunwing rep wanted another $40.Amer per person, all in we were out $800. Canadian the sunwing rep charley avoided us like the plague the tours are a RIP OF you spend to much time on a passenger van with terrible suspension to see guys taking sand from a river to make concrete and listen to someone talk about coffee beans for 2 hours, and the tours lasts anywhere from 9 hours to 16 hours. If you want a tour speak with someone on the beach or hire a shuttle if you go to this place do not buy the tour on the sunwing plane check the place out first speak with someone who used the guys on the beach, we did speak with tourists who went that route and they were delighted and the price is more in line with what you get, the Sun wing reps say don`t trust them, we say don`t trust the Sun wing rep they just want your money, find out for yourself, also this hotel is spread out over a large area, it had 1 public washroom on either side of the complex the Ladies washroom closest to the foyer had lineups out the door especially at the weekend, its shame full and cheap, also the elevator closest to our room was broken every other day, the day we left we had to carry our luggage down 4 flights of stairs, we will not return to this place or use sunwing ever again.Sincerely tecoyle@shaw.ca
