Hotel Riu Palace Costa Rica (All-Inclusive), is located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica on the edge of the beach of Matapalo.

This hotel, fully prepared to provide the best service to its customers, has four swimming pools (one with a wet bar), jacuzzi, gym, sauna and a wellness center "Renova Spa" with different treatments and massages. Everything you need for maximum comfort during your stay.

The quality of the cuisine offered at the different restaurants of the hotel is exceptional thanks to our chefs, who prepare a variety of dishes, from classic to the most exotic. You'll want to to try each of our menus and, thanks to the All Inclusive service, you will be able to enjoy the buffet restaurant or the four different theme restaurants of the hotel.

Being on a privileged environment, the hotel offers a variety of activities on the beautiful beaches such as diving or fishing in the Pacific waters, ecotourism in the volcanic areas, and during the day several programs of entertainment for all ages, whether in family or friends. The hotel has a gym, table tennis, volleyball, tennis court, windsurf, sailing, snorkeling equipment, kayaks and other water activities. If your favorite sport is golf, the Four Seasons Golf Club has fantastic views over the sea.

Guanacaste is less tropical, humid and lush than the rest of the country. Its plains and dry forests sometimes remind you of African savanna landscapes. Inland you can see the savanna, local cowboys on their horses while driving their flocks, which are authentic figures of popular culture of this destination. From the hotel, you can do several excursions, such as the visit of the National Park Rincon de la Vieja, the Safari Park or the capital of Guanacaste: Liberia.

    false advertisement

This resort (RIU Costa Rica Guanacaste) provided false advertisement. When I booked my room, it stated I would receive $600 in resort credits. Upon my arrival I asked several front desk agents, and they all advised the same thing. It says resort credit but it's not, it's actually discounts off of items/services being offered. I advised that is not the same and that is considered false advertisement. Secondly, I expressed how the place where lunch was served, the cook had two huge contains of chicken wings sitting out in the open with flies flying all around them. This is unsanitary and a health risk and meat should not be handled that way and should be kept in a climate control environment until they are ready to cook it. They just looked at me and said oh. Not a resort I would visit again.

    Good for the price

Front desk personnel were not that friendly. Room was outdated. The bed spread was old and worn. Beds are hard and getting in and out of the shower is a safety hazard. The sides are too high and you have to straddle the edge to get in. The liquor at the mini bar was empty and ever replaced during our stay. The bathroom had a sewerage smell from time to time. We gave up trying to get into a restaurant. They weren’t doing reservations and they were all first come first serve. Toucan , the gourmet restaurant was booked for the night 5 minutes after opening as people were lined up long before it opened. Don’t try sleeping before 11 because it’s so loud from the nightly entertainment. I gave it a 3 stars because we alway found a good seat by the pool (maybe because it’s off season). The beach was nice. I enjoyed the buffet. I normally hate buffets but they had a good selection of food and the quality was decent. I did have a good time and found it to be a good value.

Ok, but not 5 star, 3 at best

Definitely not 5 star. This place is 3 star at best. However, the location is beautiful and most of the staff are great. We had a great time, but don't expect luxury. You have to book for the restaurants, which is an added hassle otherwise it's the buffet. The food is average at best.

    Great time

My only problem that I had with my stay is that the room had an odor. Other than that we had a great time but I feel that guanacaste riu more dedicated for kids than adults because most of the shows was for kids. If or when I visit again we will most definitely stay at riu palace.

    One of the worst experiences..

One of the worst experiences.. - Security is a BIG problem. Thieves among the staff. One employee was caught stealing in a guest's room that was marked do not disturb, he was dragged to security and was sent home for the day. FOR THE DAY and allowed to return to work the next day. - Food was subpar cruise food. Restaurants do not have enough available spots so you end up having to go the buffet most of the time. - I went with a large group and one of my party members did not have power in their room for 3 days. - Food at the meal areas were barely covered and flies every where. - A lot of bees in the pool area - Had a bday party at the site, the food that was catered was undercooked and they refused to serve the cake they baked for us. -The water in the rooms have a horrible sewer smell, which makes the room smell crappy. - Showers are like a cave with no lighting. - Rooms were not properly cleaned. - When you have complaints don't bother going to management, they will only ask you to comeback later.
