Wait for hard opening
Our family is here now. Yesterday there was only one pool bar open with continuously long lines and people ordering 6 plus drinks. Today only the beach restaurant was open for lunch with 1,000 plus people lined up first to get in then line up again to get dry mystery tasteless meat. Dinners have been very good so far but an hour to have a terrible lunch is inexcusable. Wait until this hotel is fully open as the bean counters are killing it with the low numbers.
Very well even in Pandemic times
Went for a vacation to Riu Guanacaste in June 2020. The service overall was really good. Restaurants were taking actions on keeping the environment safe and clean for all people. The food and drinks were good and most importantly, the services were not interrupted or suspended due to the pandemy. I visited another hotel were food menu was really shortened and additional services were suspended (spa, bar, gym, etc). In Riu this was NOT the case, everything was working properly and safely. It would be good to implement an expedit check in and check out, also provide non-physical keys to customers but digital. The room was good though a little old-fashioned. Hopefully they took the time to renew Riu Palace which is just next to Riu Guanacaste. Finally, the sport bar has to be supplied with Snacks, since when we went there wasn't anything but chips. In general very good.
The New Normal in a wonderful All-Inclusive Resort.
The Resort opened on June 19th first time on government allowance after almost 3 months being closed due to pandemics. We arrived on the very 19th at noon and just left a couple of hours ago. As frequent guests we knew already all the good and many things this Hotel has to offer, we were under great fear the new normal during Covid19 resulted in a very diminished all inclusive experience, but by all means after staying there for 4 amazing nights we conclude and now can happily assure that all given by the pandemics, the Hotel resolved and delivered all its excellence exceeding our expectations by far. We noticed all overwhelming efforts of the staff crew to keep all people far enough on the lines adhering to safety distance protocols and keeping them wearing their masks every time entering to any restaurant, bar and in every place were one needed to interact to personnel. The Hotel is still working super hard in controlling a cultural bad behavior from guests like leaving used/dirty/sweaty masks everywhere which is scientifically demonstrated be a serious health threat for everybody, but despite the tantrum customers might like to perform against educational scripts given by the staff, the Resort MUST put attention to those actions and stop them immediately at all cost as so could it imply a humongous liability for the facility. A solution for this issue I'd like to humbly propose as big fans of Riu as we are, is imposing severe penalty fees to those not adhering to safety policies, similar as it might occur when somebody destroys or damage property in purpose and/or to give an unique reusable mask to every guest for which they'll be obligated to safely return or dispose at the front desk at the end of their stay, these solutions are very low cost effective compared to that the Resort does now in giving disposable masks and gloves to everybody every time in every place, other easy solution is to put special garbage cans everywhere so that guests and personnel can dispose of them properly as potentially biohazard items they are. Love you guys for always! Be safe! Ps. The picture is our room's super incredibly loving 180 degree view of the sea, room 5104, a Stay that will stay in our minds for ever! Thank you Riu!
I feel if you’ve been to one Riu the. You’ve been to them all. Exactly what you’d expect from a major chain resort. Plenty of american food options if that is what you like. No real beach vibes at all. More like dust/dirt and grass. Beautiful place overall. Huge resort. Stayed for a wedding which was memorable.
Save your money !
One of the worse all inclusive I have experienced . We figured how bad could it be if it’s a RIU ? The rooms were dated and the ac was hardly pumping. The food was terrible. We ultimately paid to upgrade to the RIU Costa Rica next door and it was totally worth it ! It was like night and day in terms of the grounds and food. Also, I do not recommend purchasing round trip car service from the airport . If you do, do for one day . We paid $100 for both of us round trip . When we got to hotel we discovered they have a shuttle for $15 each person to airport.
