This was our first visit and we will definitely bone back!!! I brought my grown children with me and we had a blast! Every night there is live entertainment and daily excursions to the Pyramids, Snorkeling and much more. The atmosphere is safe, inviting and=[d the staff are really friendly and eager to help. Seven restaurants to visit on the property-breakfast was unbelievable. ... Whether is’s a honeymoon or family vacation - you will love it!!!!
10 Year Anniversary
My wife and I spent a week at VIRM. This was our first time at an adults only all inclusive resort. We are big cruisers, so we wanted to switch it up and give it a try. The resort was actually our second option but we are so thankful we made the switch last minute. We booked a Golden Superior Junior Suite right above the Golden Pool, tucked deep in the resort grounds. From our room we overlooked the pool, the lagoon, and the beach from afar. The room was perfect. Clean, spacious, and totally accommodating to every need we had! We are a 36m/33f with 2 young kids so this 7 day get away was something we were looking forward to for a long time! The VIRM didn’t disappoint. The resort was gorgeous! So much to see, so many places to walk! It is a large resort so be prepared to spend time walking from place to place. I have to say that the staff was immaculate! They were always available no matter what. Check in was a breeze. We were met at the van that dropped us off and walked right to the concierge. We were offered bar service immediately. Great timing because we had just gotten off of the plane and it was HOT! The check in process is very personal. They took time to help us understand the grounds and didn’t try to upsell us on anything. I was given the opportunity to ask about extras that were available like cabanas and spa services. The concierge answered without pressure and really made us feel comfortable 10/10. The bar service throughout the 7 days was prompt and consistent. Wait service was the same. Room service was equally top notch 10/10. The drinks were very good and the bar tenders didn’t skimp on their pour, so you definitely were taken care of 10/10. The food was awesome! There are multiple choices for elegant meals, and the buffet was also fabulous 10/10. Be prepared to book Hibachi through your personal concierge assigned to your building or else you won’t get in. It books up fast! We visited ours at 8:30am before breakfast to book a reservation. Also, the resort takes a lot of pride in making sure their food display is aesthetically pleasing, on top of being so yummy. The activities at the resort are constant and you can always find something to do, if you want to. The beach is gorgeous and the resort offers water sports, plus beach volleyball. Note that as large as their private beach is, the staff still doesn’t miss you if you want to order food or drink. The main pool is award winning and they have two swim up bars to serve the guests. Floats are available in the water already so you just grab and go. The entertainment is great. The VIRM has a Michael Jackson show with an impersonator that is very good. I’m a big MJ fan so I am critical of things like this, but the show was 10/10! All in all there was so much we enjoyed and way too much to share on here. We have already booked another 7 days with the VIRM in July 2020, even with COVID-19. The resort has made some major changes to their processes to ensure guest safety so we are looking forward to another 7 days of rest and relaxation. I would absolutely agree with those that say the VIRM upstages the Sandals resorts at half the price...and for those of you who don’t know, the resort is privately owned by a family who really understands what a royal experience should be like. They take a lot of pride in making sure their resort gives their guests an unforgettable experience! 10/10!
More than a vacation, a truly special place
We have been to the Valentin multiple times and there is good reason why we keep coming back. The resort goes above and beyond what any all inclusive should be. But what really makes the Valentin special are the people there. From the moment upon arriving 'Welcome Home' with a smile. The staff in the lobby are over the top helpful, the golf cart ride to the room is exciting and you can see the love the driver has to answer anything the passenger wants to know about the resort or country. Celebrating anything? Better believe the room staff will make sure it happens. The wait staff at restaurants can make almost anything happen (unsure what you want? may end up with both). The bar staff is fun and engaging, and will learn your name and have drinks ready. The grounds crew is fabulous and maintain the garden that is the resort with pristine skill. The Go team is high energy and caring, and truly care that guests have a good time. Another group of people that need to be mentioned are the musicians. The Don Miguel bar has live piano by Yan, and he can learn a song by simply listening to it. With over 2,000 songs to request, (or ask for one he doesn't know and expect to hear it the next day), his unmatched talent makes the early evening incomplete without a stop for a beverage and piano. The Valentin is extremely lucky to have him playing every day. Besides Yan's piano, the resort has a cover band called the Imperial Band. They play almost every night, and their music under the stars is as near to magical as you could imagine. The band is made up of professional talent as well, and I have yet to see another resort match it. The resort also has other live music throughout (Mariachi, Cello, Three Tenors, Violin, Saxaphone). We have been to other places, and always end up missing the live music the most when we are not there. Simply, other resorts try and fall short, where the Valentin has an abundance. The rest of the resort is what you would expect from an upscale all inclusive. The rooms are very nice and their placement in the garden that is the resort give nature lovers a paradise to enjoy (expect Coati and bird sightings from your balcony). The large resort may be spread out to some, but to us it gives an opportunity to take a stroll through tropical paradise, especially in the evening under the stars, listening to the ocean and nature. The pool (s) are a nice mix of fun and relaxing. The main pool has a more lively atmosphere with activities, exercising, dancing and games. The poolside food is also surprisingly great, (shrimp burger at quiet pool, tacos at main pool). The beach is large with beautiful white sand and turquoise water. Depending on the day, swimming may be limited to one spot (dangerous currents sometimes depending on weather and time of year) but still plenty of opportunity to go into the ocean as well. There is beach service for drinks, and the servers work extremely hard up and down the sand all day. The restaurants, be advised there is a dress code (pants and shoes for men, elegant casual for women). My wife and I embraced it and had fun finding ways to match each night, and the dress code spruces up the resort in the evening to a much classier setting. Each restaurant has unique flavors, but all have their gems on the menu. For anyone disappointed with their food, I would wonder why they simply didn't order something else, as that option exists and the staff is happy to accommodate whatever you want. The bars, extremely fun! Beach bar is iconic with the swings. Pool bars have the swim up atmosphere (pre covid, hopefully returning again once safe), Don Miguel with the piano and upscale drinks. Exactly what you would want for and hope. The mojitos are excellent, and you can always order a drink with specific alcohol. All in all, the resort is amazing and if debating booking it, just go ahead and do it. The resort lives up to any hype you could hope for, but the staff and musicians put it over the top.
July 2019 Anniversary Vacation
Valentin Imperial Rivera Maya is amazing! It is beyond more than 5 stars! From the moment we walked in to the second we left we felt like royalty. The staff is so friendly and so accommodating! The resort was huge and so clean and beautiful. The smell when you walk in the loby is so wonderful and will stay with you forever! The food was spectacular no matter where we ate. We loved it and we will be back!
Three Trips and Six Years Later, VIM is THE BEST
I first visited the VIM in 2014, and left the world's longest review detailing every amenity. We have since returned twice, most recently in January 2020. We have also been to several other all inclusives in the interim, because my husband likes to try new things. We have now tried enough, and the VIM is the best resort in its size, style, and star level. While I may be inclined to add a few nights at a completely different (either not AI or tiny/boutique) hotel, I can't fathom ever "cheating" on the VIM in the Riviera Maya again. It truly stands out as superb in the things that matter most to us: service, pools, beach, and ambiance. The Service: The service is truly what continues to stand out all these years and trips later. The wait and bartending staff are just SO nice and friendly. We were happy to see several familiar faces going back to 2014 (sweet brunch waiter Erby, sushi chef Joaquin, and bartender Miguel are 3 for 3 trips!), and also make new friends each trip. In six years, the service is both only getting better, and I am learning from each trip to another resort that it is exceptional. This year, check in and out was a seamless breeze. They have cut down on the wait time for check in. Literally every single employee we encountered in January was incredibly nice. I feel bad that in my OG review I made a huge deal out out of one rude waiter. The VIM probably employees 500 people, and 499 of them were nice to us. Other recent resorts it was the exact opposite- 3ish employees were nice. The Ambiance: The resort layout and ambiance really stands out as exceptional compared to the other resorts we have tried since our first visit. The tropical foliage, minimal cement, and truly Mexican vibe are really special. Nothing about the VIM feels corporate, cookie-cutter, or blah. The foliage was also much appreciated on a windy day this January. The wind was so fierce we couldn't even walk on the beach, but as soon as we got to the pool it was calm. I know some guests like to see the ocean from the pool, but the VIM's pools are set back far enough behind enough trees that it's always calm. The little touches of soft lighting and music piped in through rock-shaped speakers at night really adds to the romantic ambiance. I also really like the lower buildings and colonial feel compared to resorts with high rises, and the lack of designer shops. The VIM has a gift shop in the lobby and that's it. I don't like my Mexican vacations to feel like trips our local schmancy mall. The Beach: The VIM's beach remains the best beach I've visited in Mexico. You can walk for almost an hour in each direction, the seaweed is none to minimal, there are zero vendors, and the sand is soft and sugar white. You wouldn't think that 15-30 miles make that much of a difference, but recently visited other Riviera Mayan hotels had markedly less nice beaches. The Food: The food remains exceptional for an all inclusive at this price level. There are some AI's that average over $1k a night at which I hope every meal is the best thing you ever ate. I continue to find the VIM's food to be consistent, high quality, with some really stand out surprises. The sushi remains absolutely outstanding. We were so excited to see our buddy Joaquin behind the sushi counter and ask him to make a surprise platter. On our last two trips, we have had to actively limit our trips to the sushi to every other night to try other things. In January we finally tried the Indonesian restaurant for the first time, and it was exceptional. We also ate lunch at the buffet instead of breakfast a few times, and the fresh veggies were exceptional. The Bars: The VIM continues to set the bar, so to speak, for bar and lounge options. The vibes really vary between the many bars, and you can always find exactly what you are looking for. The big beach bar with the many seating options really stands out compared to other hotels' beach bars. Sometimes we like to grab a drink and take a walk, but the big beach bar provides ample shaded space to hang out if needed. We also discovered the second, smaller beach bar tucked almost out of sight. You can't swim in front of it because of rocks, but if you just want to quietly read and look at the waves, this area is great with prompt service, either at the bar or via a waiter. This trip we also explored the Don Miguel martini bar and the cigar bar. Both seemed a little rich for our blood six years ago, but they are both great and not snooty at all. The cigar bar has a great old time-y library vibe, a great selection of cordials and after dinner type drinks, and surprisingly doesn't smell too bad like smoke. Don Miguel feels fancy but not pretentious, and they make the most elaborate martinis there. The others, including the Sports Bar and nightly Plaza, remain as awesome as on our first visit. The Rooms: our initial and second visits we had a third floor Golden Room, which remains our favorite. In January we booked too late to get one with a king and thus stayed in the Silver. It was perfectly serviceable, and while smaller than the Golden, it was bigger than many other resorts we've stayed at. But, the view of the Golden Pool from the Golden Room, the quick assess to the pool, and the proximity of the pool restroom make the Golden upcharge worth it. The Golden rooms also had bigger bathrooms with bidets. Recreation: the VIM has continued to increase its recreation options, including underwater spin class in the main pool. Its gym is still small for the resort size, but the AC and air quality have been improved. Having stayed at a few resorts since where the gym was the best part, I'd take the whole package of the VIM any day over a more cush gym. The Pools: I was so obsessed with the VIM's pools my first visit I was a little concerned I had oversold them and the rosy tint may have faded. Nope, they are still AMAZING. They remain the biggest pools I have ever seen, with a tropical, calming yet fun ambiance. In November and January, they were plenty warm. We loved our third trip in January so much we had booked to be there right now and of course were cancelled due to Covid. We will be back as soon as it is safe to do so. Please feel free to read my first review for more details, reach out with questions, and go give these lovely people your business when you are able!
