Eating Well: The Best Dining in the Caribbean

Eating Well: The Best Dining in the Caribbean

by Kevin Patterson

If you're used to making ugly faces at your food, then you'll be happy to know that there's a terrific Caribbean resort with dining fit for the pickiest gourmet. Thanks to The Food Channel, Martha Stewart and upscale gourmet magazines, self-professed foodies who know their way around black garlic and hen-of-the-woods mushrooms demand better dining choices while on vacation. These three hotels won our hearts and taste buds with the best resort restaurants in the Caribbean.

Sivory Punta Cana is a AAA Four Diamond boutique hotel that promises a lush getaway. The first in the region to become part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, this resort offers 55 luxury suites that will delight guests with personalized service fit for royalty. The resort offers three world-class restaurants whose menus are designed to please lovers of fine food. True foodies looking for something impressive are blown away by Gourmond Restaurant, the only AAA Four Diamond-rated restaurant in the Punta Cana. Charbroiled rack of lamb and grilled spiny-lobster tail, paired with an outrageous 8,000-bottle wine cellar, wow the most discerning palates.

Looking for an all-inclusive resort with fabulous restaurants? One of our favorites is Jewel Dunn's River Resort in Jamaica. The friendly staff, aka Gems, circulate daily with a new GEM, a yummy rum concoction that is positively addictive. And that's just the beginning of a tasty stay at this Caribbean resort. Dining options include six terrific restaurants that cater to picky eaters. Be sure you make reservations at The Jade Samurai and ask for Big Bubba as your teppanyaki chef. Platinum offers a more formal dining experience, but the appeal of the jerk chicken at Aquamarine and a four-cheese pizza from the brick oven at Court Jester's will bring you back here for your next vacation. And the multi-course, candle-lit dinner on the pier once each week is irresistible.

San Juan, Puerto Rico is home to one of the best resort restaurants in the Caribbean, Alfredo's at the InterContinental San Juan. Guests are treated to exquisite Italian entrees that whisk their taste buds to Italy with the perfect fettuccine Alfredo. Then there's Ruth Chris Steak House, for those who prefer a mouthwatering steak topped with butter, and Ciao Mediterranean, with a menu based on the traditions of Greece, Morocco and Spain.

If you want to dine well, each of these resorts offers the best resort restaurants in the Caribbean thanks to authentic cuisines. It just goes to prove that Caribbean resort dining is a ticket to multiple countries without the jet lag.
