Definitely not 5 stars. 2 to 3 it is imho.
Family of 8 went there for my 80 th birthday. 3 regular rooms plus Privilege for me. Got in at 4:39 AM in the morning and took forever to check in. Rooms had lukewarm hot water and my outdoor hot tub wouldn’t work. Getting restaurant reservations was tedious but the servers were nice. Bar fridge only got refilled twice as I had to call for such. Went to Privilege only bar one and ordered Premium Hendrick’s gin. They wanted extra $ for it ? ??? Buffet food was limited and average. Very little fresh fruit ( no bananas). Got them at Mikes. Read a lot of reviews there prior to booking my $32,000 trip I paid for. Question the reviews as place needs a huge financial infusion to be 5 stars. It’d 2 to 3 stars at best. I’d choose Iberostar down the road as it is 5 stars I’ve stayed there. No comparison. Staff were very friendly though and I tipped everyone daily on many occasions including my room housekeeper. Not their fault the place needs a major upgrade. Save your money book elsewhere.

Montezuma's Revenge
Since out home was listed for sale, we could not have our Christmas celebrations in at home. Hence we decided to have the whole family (from the US and Europe) meet in Cancun. Upon arrival it came to light that the time for the pickup at the airport was changed but when changed the time was not PM when we arrived but AM. Strike 1. Upon checking in, it was brought to our attention that the adults would stay in one area and those with children in another. The room we were provided was on the fourth floor in between two rooms that were being remodeled. The room on the left was being repainted and retiled, hence we got the smell of paint thinner, turpentine and dust from the tile cutter. To the right there was hammering. The furniture from those and other units were stored in the halls. Had to contact customer service several times because of the odor and the dust. This was an exercise in futility. Strike 2 We were in an " adult building" and told that children were not allowed to be there nor stay. Upon entering the elevator one time a family of four got on the same elevator. A comment was asked which floor and if they were visiting someone. Was advised that they were staying in a room on the third floor. Strike 3 New batter now. One of us was given a massage at the spa as a present. Because of the remodeling, the family member had to see the hotel doctor and go to a local hospital emergency room. Upon going to the spa to cancel the next day, we were advised that the spa needed the original documents from the hospital. After a long conversation, they were advised that then we could not file an insurance claim. Was finally able to convince them that they could make a copy. After all is said and done it was further advised that it would take 3 to 6 months to get a credit if one was to be given. Strike 1 On the day of checkout phone calls were made to the baggage handlers, front desk and customer service. No one answered. Strike 2 Had to handle our own baggage at check out. Strike 3 and another out. When leaving we advised beforehand that as there were two children (one an infant and another 4 years old) that children seats would be needed. None were provided. The pitcher this time hit the batter. Third and last out. Also, failed to mention that on a scale of zero to ten to rate this hotel, hope you are good at fractions. We had mold in our room (i.e. bathroom toilet, shower and sinks) Our recommendation is stay far far away from this place.

NOT 5 STAR
Stayed here with my wife, son, daughter in law and two grandchildren. We booked this as it was listed as new and 5 star. It don’t think this that was accurate on either count. I will start with the good points of the trip/resort. 1. several pools gives you the option to sit somewhere quiet, somewhere close to the beach, or adults only. 2. there were several bars to get drinks from. 3. nice selection of different restaurants to choose from. 4. good entertainment for the little ones which they very much enjoyed. 5. room was spacious and clean and was cleaned professionally each day with bar fridge being restocked as needed. 6. Angel at Sakura was an amazing waiter and made a bad experience as good as it could be. He deserves a raise. 7. Jordan at Pez Vela was such an outstanding waiter. He took amazing care of us and largely because of him we had lunch there every day. Issues That We Encountered: 1. Quality of alcohol was poor and. It what one should expect at a 5 star resort. 2. Wine (red in particular) was awful. It was all Mexican wine so in order to drink decent wine with dinners we had to pay for it. I’m ok with paying for better wine but the basic pour should at least be drinkable. 3. Pools were very very cold … the ocean was warmer than the pools so that is where we spent our time. Not sure why they can’t be heated?? 4. There were no snacks, fruit etc available for the kids between meals so we had to bring our own from home. 5. There was one coffee shop (Mikes) and while the coffee was ok it took an hour standing in line to get one unless you were up early when they opened. 6. We dined at all of the restaurants except Lo Locanda and had an issue at every one as follows: a. Blue Moon - we had dinner there one night (we were in the Beso adults building so we could eat there). We ordered a bottle of wine and were told that because of that we got a free lobster tail. That was a nice touch expect I got about halfway through it and found gravel/sand and almost broke a tooth. They did not offer to do anything for us such as cover the wine. While the rest of the meal was very good we left disappointed. b. Blue Moon - We went for breakfast and after an hour waiting for our meals they came. My wife’s Eggs Benedict was cold and while my Mexican Eggs were hot they lacked any taste. c. Steakhouse - I ordered a Rib Eye which was about 1/2 think and well done even though I ordered it medium rare. Horrible!! In fairness very one else ordered the flank steak and it was very good. d. Sakura - My wife stood in line in the AM for an hour to book this one and when she got to the booking agent they said they only had one time slot which didn’t work for us. Then they told my wife that if she bought 2 bottles of wine she could pretty much get in any time. What a fricking scam!! The food and cooking presentation here was excellent BUT I had to ask three times (and finally not very nicely) to bring us the wine we ordered while we still had food to eat. The main guy said he didn’t know we wanted to drink it with our meal … really !!!! All in all we left very disappointed and will never stay there again.

Sick the whole trip
Our room smelled of mold, AC wasn’t working, water dripping through paint on ceiling, and mold growing. Our jet tub didn’t work, plug and parts of tub broken, water would not shut off, constant running water. We understand tropical and humid you will smell musty. We stayed at ocean Jamaica two years ago and we had the best time but Mexico….. not so much. I got so sick on second day , vomit, and runs. Spent day on toilet with bucket in hands. Or in bed. My stomach was uneasy the rest of the trip. Very disappointed.
