Luxury Resort or Elaborate Scam? Still Not Sure.

This was hands down the worst experience I’ve ever had at an all-inclusive resort, and I would strongly urge anyone considering this place to save their money and go literally anywhere else. We arrived as part of a large wedding group, with all rooms booked together well in advance. Despite this, at check-in the front desk claimed they “couldn’t find” our specific reservation within the group booking. Rather than fixing their mistake, they forced us to pay a $200 cash deposit just to be given a room. On top of that, we were required to hand over our passports as collateral. This resulted in over $50 in ATM fees, all because of an issue they admitted is “common” for them. Completely unacceptable for a so-called luxury resort. It didn’t stop there. Each person in our group was charged a different amount for the environmental tax (ranging from 20USD to 120USD per room for the exact same room type and duration of stay), with no receipts provided. When we later questioned this and asked for refunds, we were told—without irony—that the employee who collected the money had stolen it, and therefore the hotel could not refund us. Let that sink in: we were told we were out hundreds of dollars because of their internal theft problem. Throughout the stay, it felt like the resort was actively trying to scam or upcharge us at every opportunity. One particularly outrageous example: our entire group woke up early to be first in line to book a Teppanyaki reservation. Even though we followed their process exactly, we were told we could only get a table for our group if we purchased two bottles of wine. At an all-inclusive resort. That we had already paid for. While I will say that most of the servers were kind and hardworking, the front-desk reception staff were shockingly rude, dismissive, and unaccommodating. Any issue we raised was met with attitude, excuses, or outright refusal to help. The rooms themselves were equally disappointing. They were dirty, damp, and smelled strongly of mold. Our room lock did not work properly, which is a serious safety concern. To make matters worse, on two separate occasions—after housekeeping had cleaned the room—I found a total of three moth larvae underneath my pillow. These were discovered beneath three layers of pillows that housekeeping had placed, and since the larvae cannot move on their own, it raises deeply unsettling questions about cleanliness and hygiene. Between the disorganization, cash grabs, stolen money, unsafe rooms, and overall lack of accountability, this resort failed on every level. This is not luxury. This is not all-inclusive. This is a nightmare wrapped in a pretty brochure. Save your money. Save your sanity. Go somewhere else.

Second visit, still a great family destination.

Here is a review that is more focused for families. We just returned from our second stay at Ocean Riviera Paradise (Jan 16–23). We stayed in a Daisy Junior Pool View suite. The entertainment team is awesome at this resort. A massive shout-out to Daniella, Diana, and Milliena (the supervisor I think that was her name). They were awesome with our kids and really made the trip special for them. The Family Lounge and the foam party were the highlights of the week. Maybe a little less Kidz Bop music though would be great. 😋 Even though we went for the waterpark we spent most of our time at the Ocean Pool, in my opinion it is the nicest and warmest on the property. As for the adult entertainment, I found this was lacking. The entertainment team tried their best to get people interested but there was only so much water polo and volleyball one wants to do on vacation. Still a shout out to Ivan on their team who did a phenomenal job. Also there isn't much to do in the evenings. Something interesting we found out is that rooms now have motion sensors. If you aren't in the room, the power cuts off. This means electronics (phones, cameras, etc.) will not charge while you are out. This also includes the AC. The resort is super clean, the staff work hard to keep it tidy and well maintained. Housekeeping always did a great job, the drinks from the bars were awesome and everyone did it with a smile. The food was good but a little repetitive at the buffet, especially breakfast. Our biggest hurdle was the "dine-in only" policy; not being able to take a plate to the pool for the kids is a missed opportunity for convenience. Also, note that there are no bars open late in the Daisy section, you’ll have to walk to the lobby or sports bar which can be a hurdle if you want to tuck the kids in but still enjoy a night cap. Overall, a great stay. The wildlife, beach, waterpark and staff make it a top-tier choice for families.

Better Than Expected based on other’s reviews.

I had been watching this resort for the last few years and found the reviews to quite mixed but for the price I decided to book. We stayed January 2026 in a roof top pool view room. In a nutshell, for the lower priced 5 stars it was really great. In my opinion I wouldn’t compare it to a luxury resort (such as Dreams, Majestic, Xcaret..) though. We went as a couple but felt the vibe to be more family oriented which was fine for us but some couples might prefer a more party or quieter hotel depending on the type of getaway you are looking for. The food was usually great. I was disappointed with Sakura though, the food wasn’t great the show was very short and the reservation to get in took forever. The Blue Moon (adults only but you can stay in any section of the hotel to go) was our favourite. We never made it to the Steak House or supper buffets. We went to the hydrotherapy it was ok nothing special. My only real complaint is the people asking me ALL day if I wanted a massage. Everywhere and anywhere… I can’t count how many times a day I was asked for my photos and a massage on the resort and at the beach it became rather annoying, didn’t matter if I was having a coffee or laying on the beach, eyes closed - having someone ask me if I want a massage.. it’s too far. The line at Mike’s is pretty intense in the mornings they open at 8am. Coffee in the buffet is on the weak side but you can ask them for espresso based drinks is if you don’t mind the wait. When you check in remember to get your hotel confirmation number this is what you need to log into the app to make reservations, those are day of only. Arcade and escape room are extra we didn’t go though. We totally missed the theatre it’s by the sports bar and bowling alley. We went to the outside live music nightly instead. Route 66 serves drinks and food all hours which was welcomed when we arrived at 3am. There is a hospitality shower you can book with the bell man if you have a late departure, this is book day before or day of. Seaweed was ok.. they did more than neighbouring hotels to control it but beach is very narrow just a heads up if you are more of a beach person it’s also very crowded and long lines at the bar just a heads up, and you have to play the terrible towel game if you want a pool lounger. I read a lot of controversy on the environment tax, we paid $30 usd for 2 people for one week and I snapped a photo of the receipt just in case but had no issues. All in all no resort is perfect but for the price point we had a really fabulous vacation and would return.

    January escape from the cold.

A very large resort. This a great resort for families. We stayed in building #1. I would not recommend building 2 . We have no kids so #1 or #4 are great. Not sure if El Beso is worth the extra $$. This resort is very well maintained and the people that work here are the best. Very nice. The rooms are in need of a makeover. But our room was very clean when we got there and the housekeeper came in every day and kept our room immaculate. Will definitely return here might consider going with privilege.

Not for adults looking for a quiet getaway.

Prior to our stay, I needed to make a change. The phone number on the H10 website was out of service and it took more than three days to receive a response, that did not initially solve the problem. It took three more days for a second follow up to get it corrected. I was pretty disappointed with the quantity of emails and phone calls it required to make one change. Once there, throughout the resort, someone is trying to sell you something. For an all inclusive experience, you couldn't walk 10 feet without being approached about a spa service, an additional cost excursion, a membership program, an evening show etc. Finally, we paid extra for the 'Adults Only' area of this resort, but it turns out it was only a pool, mixed in with all the other, family friendly areas. It was not worth the month to book the El Beso side, and I would only suggest this resort for families of young children, as you will be surrounded by them.
