    ****THEFT BY HOTEL FRONT DESK****

READ to bottom ****THEFT BY HOTEL FRONT DESK**** The landscaping around the hotel is absolutely beautiful - the "jungle" was amazing. The animals especially the Monkeys were a big hit with the kids and adults. the food was very good tasting especially the beach bbq however, each day the food was the same with very little verity compared to other hotels I have stayed at. By the end of the trip we really didn't want to eat anymore and were sick of the same thing. The beach bar and waiter on the beach were great however very understaffed - we would be waiting very long times to get drinks. The pasta bar was also very understaffed - 1 person working and usually very long waits. The desserts had a very pour verity and generally did not taste good. The rooms had a bad smell when we arrived and we had to open the door to the hallway and the balcony to air it out for a few hours as the fumes were hurting our noses. The renovations were done but in my opinion more of a bandaid repair and done very poorly. The beds are doubles at best - super small and the mattresses old as they are caving in the middle. Now for the UGLY - we were basically held ransom at the front desk during check in - all three families who arrived together (booked separately using 2 different agencies) were informed that there was an issue with their booking and only one child per family was paid for. The second child in each family would therefore be extra and needed to be paid before we were allowed to enter the hotel. We provided the front desk with all the appropriate documentation that showed we paid for 2 children but they refused to accept this and said that their system said differently but they would not show us what their system said. We were told we would each have to pay at additional $1500 USD for the 8 year old children however, after 3 hours were told they would do us a favour and only bill us $650 USD per child. 2 families were billed $650 and the other was billed $830 (they didn't know the conversion rate). The front desk and the reservations department at the hotel would/will not respond the to agencies. The agencies have now opened a formal investigation into the theft the hotel did to us. We asked the front desk to give the kids a wrist band so that they can eat as they were super hungry and the hotel refused until we paid. If there was a "mistake" with only one reservation we would have believed the front desk that the agency made a mistake but since all 3 families using different agencies were each affected the likelihood is very very low! I reached out via their Facebook page to see if anyone else had this issue and 2 other families have come forward that they experienced this and one was made to pay the "deal" $650.00 while the other had to pay the full $1500 Please be aware! we will never ever go to a grand sirenis property again. This situation has completely ruined our trip! BUYER BEAWARE

    Butchers

Butchers gets 5 stars!! They were so accommodating to our party of 14 and the 8 kiddos we had with us! The food was so good. We would ask for something extra and they brought it no problem!

    Lovely tropical vacation

Our time at the Grand Sirenis was overwhelmingly positive with only a couple of very minor complaints. We booked with WestJet Vacations and the flight was great but we likely would NOT take the included transfer with Nexus again. It wasn’t horrible, but the wait was long, they were disorganized, it was just a van on the way down, and there’s several stops as this hotel is the farthest from Cancun airport. So next time, we will look into getting a private transfer. Check in was easy, and the service at the hotel is generally excellent and attentive. Our room was the standard junior suite but was more than adequate. We asked for a king bed and got it. Everything was super clean, great housekeeping staff, lots of fresh towels and well stocked fridge. The motion sensor lights in the bathroom that go off are bizarre. We also were somewhat bothered by the loud music that carried over from near the lobby, but they were good about shutting it down by midnight so not that big of a deal. The resort is huge! Pools are beautiful and clean with lots of loungers in both sun snd shade. The lazy river is really fun and relaxing, usually not that busy and tubes readily available. You can often see an iguana or tropical birds on your float. The beach is beautiful with four coves to explore. The sand is fairly fine and soft, but there are lots of rocks and coral in the water so you need water shoes. The coves farthest to the left are the nicest for exploring and seeing fish. Look for pelicans diving around you as you swim. The food was outstanding. Buffets were excellent with a huge variety of hot snd cold selections and cooking stations. In season fruit was plentiful. We went to three à la cartes, all exceptional. Oishi Japanese was a terrific show cooking night and delicious Asian food. Bazar was a lovely Mediterranean feast, the Greek salad and lamb souvlaki were delicious. Butchers made amazing steak dishes and the sides were very good as well. We also really enjoyed the smoothie bar by the quiet pool and Tostados coffee shop. I think they could double the size of Tostados because we Canadians love our lattes snd they were perfect. The lunch time beach grills were also a favourite, wonderful seafood paella, meats and veggies. The wildlife around the resort is so neat to see. This is the first resort that we have been at where you can see a monkey literally sitting on a wicker couch by the pool as you walk by. The coati families are so cute to see also. There are raccoons and agoutis too. And so many tropical birds that it’s a birders paradise. The Spa…I only did the hydrotherapy circuit and it was kind of mid for me. The facility is beautiful but I find that in Mexico hot tubs aren’t really hot, these were kind of tepid and murky. Steam rooms also not as hot as they should be, eucalyptus one was quite nice, lemon and orange scented ones not so much. Dry sauna was fine. Foot bath with the hot rocks kinda hurts. Change rooms small, no private areas, showers and products inadequate for a “spa”. One little gripe I have is that they will NOT honour anything their website says you get if you join their loyalty program called Sirenis Friends. There is a list of things stated, such as a small discount on services, a welcome gift, and included late checkout. I got a ridiculous runaround about these perks, and was told “we don’t have that program anymore”, and “no, it’s 5% off our late checkout hourly fee”, and “if you don’t book directly with the hotel it doesn’t apply”. So basically what’s on their website about Sirenis Friends is nonsense, don’t bother. In Mexico, everything is negotiable and the upsell tactics are prevalent and sometimes annoying. In general, we loved this resort snd will likely return. It checked a lot of boxes for us, and we had a lovely vacation. Next time we will upgrade our water shoes and perhaps try Xcaret too.

    OISHI

We just had dinner at Oishi for the teppanyaki. Our chef Eduardo "kawasaki" was amazing. He made the entire experience for our family entertaining and welcoming. And to speak about his food! The meal was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend you eat here while spending your time at Sirenis
