Worst hotel experience for this seasoned traveler
I preface this review by acknowledging that PR has been through difficult times; still, I feel that professional courtesy should reign: There is quite a range in pricing, as I discovered--and those prices can change...easily. So beware. I was quoted one price--without breakfast (I discovered), but if you want to add breakfast, it costs more than $100 (taxes, they say). A colleague was able to access another's room with his key! Surprise! Another colleague, allergic to animals (and who asked in advance for a room away from animals)--well, take a guess.... Some colleagues complained of VERY COLD water in the showers; others had VERY HOT water. In the week that I stayed there, there were 4 false fire alarms--one at 4:13 am. The A/C in the rooms, in the meeting rooms, and in the hallways was freezing. I asked for a blanket and received another sheet. Guests were allowed pool towels if they paid $25 but were reimbursed if you returned the towel (this was changed for our group after questioning). There were two water bottles in the room upon arrival; these were not replenished throughout the week. Rooms were changed a lot! One toilet flooded, one A/C caused the rug to be flooded, my roommate and I were placed in different rooms (and wondering where each other was for a full day), 2 colleagues were asked to move within an hour because a Bruce Willis/Megan Fox movie was to to filmed in their room. (The set was retro--perfect for this hotel!!) Stains on sheets, hallway carpet was obviously never vacuumed the entire week. Outstanding, helpful staff: Alex (always welcoming, accommodating); William (excellent, upbeat waiter); Valeria (excellent, accommodating, sweet bartender).
We just keep coming back...
I have reviewed the Verdanza before because it has become our favourite go to hotel when in San Juan. So many factors make this hotel our home away from home. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the staff are always friendly and welcoming, the hotel's many amenities aid in our enjoyment and the location can not be beat. We ate at the new Verace Pizzeria and we enjoyed it. I must admit, we missed the Burger Bar though. The coffee shop in the lobby is worth coming here for alone. I miss those Americanos! There is a major grocery store 5 minutes walk away as well as a drug store for any last minute items you may need. The beach is a 5 minute walk as well but this time we chose to enjoy the hotel pool. If you have kids, the childrens pool area looks like a lot of fun with a great splash pad area. The staff mostly appear to be the same people from a few years ago which says a lot. They are always there to hold a door open for you or help you arrange a taxi. They were very friendly and this is probably why one feels at home here. We look forward to our next visit to the beautiful island and especially our stay at the Verdanza. Thank you for making the start to our holiday so special.
4 star hotel with no hot water and awful front desk manners!
Upon arrival to the hotel after an online reservation, we have been greeted with a frown from a front desk lady named Gabriella. After she checked us in (with breaks in-between to talk to her friend and co-worker), she neglected to inform us where our room was or that the room was not even in the main hotel. After trying to look for it, we had to go back to the front desk, where she said -“oh, yeah, it’s that way” followed by vague directions and some uncertain hand waving. we got to the room and thought that was a minor hiccup, just to find out that there was no hot water and having some random person walking into the room using NOT the key to our room! Second trip to the front desk was in order - I thought the lady would really not appreciate seeing me 2 times in a row within the 20 minute time frame. They moved us to the main hotel on the 6th floor after trying to tell me that the previous “villa” was an upgrade... the villa’s view of a hotel’s orange pillar somehow was considered a better choice, than the ocean view for the room that we were put in after all the things went wrong - even though they assured us 20 minutes before that - there were no available rooms AT ALL, in the main tower... oh, and to top it all - nobody mentioned that 6th floor is for weed smoking guests - we really did not appreciate having to smell some skunk for the duration of our stay. Other than that - the experience was... no, it was just awful!
This is the 3rd time we've stayed at this hotel & each time is GREAT! The staff makes all the difference- kind, professional, helpful. Sheila & Alice helped with all of our requests ahead of time. Everything was better than we requested! Room on top floor, view of ocean. Pool beautiful & relaxing! Thanks to all who helped make our trip an amazing one.
Good Location, rooms have very old linens and bathrooms filthy
Stayed at the Verdanza early January 2020. Location is great as it is near the airport and also close to the beach. Lobby looks good and they have the best coffee shop in the lobby!! Nice pool area and pool towels are available too. Luggage guy was very helpful to us. That's the end of anything positive in the Verdanza! Rooms are very dirty, bed linens are really old and raggy. Bathrooms are absolutely filthy with old and dirty baths, cold water for showers and hard towels. We were part of a group of eight in four rooms, all of us had the same experience. We stayed in rooms overlooking the pool and even the guy helping us with our luggage said getting to our room was "creepy" as we had to go to the 2nd floor, down a sort of alleyway to an outdoor rooftop, cross that, up some outside stairs and then to an awful room! I hope you get the picture.
