Resort under Construction
The room was subpart
At 7am you hear construction noise
Sales agent for a "Better package" were super aggressive and made us feel uncomfortable.
this was supposed to be my honey moon!!!
food was ok, nothing extra!
The staff at the bars were very nice.
overall very disapointted
I will start by saying we were in a preferred suite. Beat $ ever spent. The room was very large, well appointed, and the decor and views were beautiful. The room had a large pass through bathroom with a water closet off to the side. The bed was firm but doable. The only complaint that I have is that the A/C did. T keep the room very cold but it was comfortable... the grounds were amazing and the grounds crew was working all the time to keep it nice. The bartenders and wait staff were above reproach. The drinks were great. I don’t feel that they were watered down and if you tipped well and asked for top shelf liquor you will usually get it. We would be sitting waiting for something and a waiter would show up with 2 shots. They were always different and always good. We then made it our mission to go up to the bar and just have the bartender surprise us. We were pleasantly surprised and will definitely go back
This was a nice hotel, great value for the price. The entire staff is very nice, polite and helpful.
The food was good everywhere we ate, including the buffets. Our favorite was the seafood restaurant. We were comped a lobster dinner for a room inconvenience and that was terrible. I have never had such tough lobster in my life. If they try an offer you one go for the upgrade instead.
There were too many children in the bar pool, it’s a small pool so why parents would want their children in a pool close to the bar, where there’s a lot of drinking going on I'll never understand, especially since the other pool is so close.
Our room was nice, we went for the privileged package, worth it, but they were doing construction in the next room, so the first day we heard a lot of jack hammering and pounding so we asked to be moved, which they did and then offered the lobster dinner for our incontinence.
All in all a great stay.
Room was large, clean, with AC & balcony - could use ceiling fan. Service was excellent - staff very friendly and helpful. Language was not an issue - we only speak English but that wasn't a problem. Meals were good in the Buffet but it was only the Buffet included in the "All Inclusive package". Option of fresh seafood, chicken, pork, steak grilled for you was good. Not having the option of any restaurant at the resort being part of the "all inclusive" unless you upgraded to the Exclusive Club was disappointing! Evening entertainment didn't start until 9pm and there wasn't a clear indication of what/where it was for the evening. Beaches were clean, well kept but small with limited seating. We had no issues during the "off season" of Oct but could understand it being an issue if the resort was full. Waiters on the beach were scarce - easier to go to the bar for your own drinks than to wait for service even though we did tip with each drink. Seem to be a family oriented resort.

do they have connecting rooms at the Catalonia Riviera Maya5 answers
thinking about going to this resort next April with my family. There will be 3 adults and 5 kids. Just wondering is there are connecting rooms available
8 years, 104 months ago
pjs
The resort does have connecting rooms, however, they are limited and based on availability upon check in. We are unable to guarantee connecting rooms as they are simply a request.
MariaCC
Just advise them ahead of time you would like to have the rooms next to each other. They may not be connecting, but at least they will be right next door
LadyPAndBigTy
Yes. Our room had a door to the next room.
Leeloo
The priveleged suites do not connect. Not sure about the priveleged rooms or standard rooms.
LesbianHoneymooners
Yes there are almost all of them are have a connecting door

ground transportation to resort9 answers
i know about the shuttle service from cancun airport to resort, are there any other ways of getting there, and how much does it cost?
8 years, 101 months ago
adrianna
We chose to take transportation as a part of the package with Cheap Caribbean. Booking now is the best thing to do instead of looking for transport when you get there.
BossLadyB
There are options to take transportation on your own such as a taxi from the airport, however, we do not have the rates for any taxi company.
MariaCC
The only other option I know and that is a taxi which costs approximately $85, one way, during the off season. I obtained this information form the conceirge and front desk staff.
californianlatin
You could take a cab but you'd ve looking to pay twice as much than if you just use the shuttle service. I believe we paid $90 per person round trip to use the shuttle.
LesbianHoneymooners
Honestly, the shuttle service can be annoying riding with others while dropping them off on the way, but it's the most economical way to travel there and back... a very good way to keep your cost down. Taxis are fairly expensive.
BizzyBee
We used the airport transfers offered by Cheap Caribbean. The resort is 1 hour from the airport so it was cheaper than a taxi and we were not going to need a rental car for the week.
Tofutti
Its an hour and a half drive I recommend just purchasing the shuttle for cheap Caribbean it makes it easier and they do all the work for you plus its a lot safer then taxies in Mexico
vacationeres
you can go by cab, but be careful when you leave the airport, many people are looking to give you a ride and you can end up listening to a time share lecture. You are better off taking the transfers that are offered w/ your package.
shagal
We just got back and we rented a car right from the airport. It was so easy and it gave us endless freedom to explore other things while we were there. Total cost for 5 days was $140. Totally worth it. There were four of us and the shuttle costs about that and you are stuck at the resort. It is an easy and safe place to drive.

I have read about vouchers for eatting at the resturants do you get to eat at them everyday of our trip or only a few each visit.I went at another place and we could sign up everyday if you were a privlege guest.

paula
The resort is an all-inclusive, which means that all of your meals and snacks are included in the package pricing that you pay. Sometimes resorts do limit the number of times you can make a reservation and eat at the specialty restaurants, depending on the number of nights you are staying at the resort.
KristinCC
There are several buffet restuarants and snack bars which have liberal hours. When I arrived I was given vouchers, no cost, and all it required was a reservation. This was usually in the invloving serving steaks. Reservations are free and easy to make. I understand the need for reservations so that they can have steaks available for guest. Dining area set up with table cloths and candlelight
californianlatin
You can eat the buffets everyday all day as many times in a day as you please. They will give you three vouchers which you can use to make reservations at the other restaraunts at the resort such as a Japanese, Italian, Steakhouse or sports bar.
LesbianHoneymooners
we stayed 7 nights and we had 4 vouchers. the meals were great though. even the buffet.
coady
We had a priviledged suite and stayed 15 nights, but still only got about 4-5 coupons per week. No problem though - we had left over. The steak house is the best, then the Japanese. The Mexican, Spanish and Italian are all so, so.
Koetter63
I believe we got three vouchers on our four-day trip... but it may be the same with privileges.
BizzyBee
We were there for 7 days and received 4 vouchers for the a la cart restaurants which gave a nice break from the buffets. I think if you are going all inclusive you will get the vouchers whether you are privileged or not. Check the web site.
Tofutti
you only get vouchers depending on the amount of days you stay.. and lets say you get 3 vouchers then you can only eat there 3 times.. the other times you have to go to the buffets..
BnL4Life
Yes for certain restaurants but privileged can do every day
Virg
We stayed for 8 nights and they gave us 4 vouchers and spy only get to use them once but I heard that you could ask and maybe get one or two more and if you are privileged you will get an additional 2 more from the original amount offered I recommend the Japanese restaurants above the rest its more fancy and a lot better food
vacationeres
you are given dining vouchers for the specialty restaraunts depending on how many nights you are staying and your room type. We went for 4 nights and stayed in a priveleged suite and received 3 vouchers. Plan ahead as the speciality restararaunts are not open every night. check w/ the front desk to see what nights each one is open.

We are going to be here during Cinco de Mayo. What should be expect?2 answers
7 years, 94 months ago
TD
Cinco de Mayo apparently is more widely celebrated in the US than in Mexico. If you are concerned about big celebrations and partying you needn't be concerned as it is generally considered "just another day" in Mexico . The resorts may celebrate the day in some way for the benefit of the tourists but it is considered a "minor" holiday in mexico.
ccsusan1
Expect a very excited bartending crew. We went after Cinco, and they were still giddy.

Do you offer one day scuba diving certification courses?6 answers
I have been to Cancun resorts before and they offered the one day scuba certification class in their pool. Do you offer this or is there place very near the resort that does offer this?
7 years, 93 months ago
Memphis, Tennessee
There are scuba excursions which can be purchased with your vacation package or while in destination.
MariaCC
I don't know if they offer certifications but they offer scuba tours for non certified people. I thought the price was reasonable but was to afraid to try myself.
Sarah776
Yes they will do classes in the pool and one day certify you
Virg
The resort does offer this on site and you can set up outings for diving here as well. You can also walk down the road about 4 blocks to the harbor and set up dive training/dive outings there with the local company.
angelgrl333
Yes they do I saw them every morning dog less in the look and overheard a guy taking a test for his certification at the scuba shack

The resort offers free scuba diving certification courses in the pool daily. The staff that conducts the lessons are very friendly and helpful!

I was wondering if this resort have 24 hour room service? What types of food is offered at the buffet.? Are the standard rooms comfortable without having to upgrade?
7 years, 92 months ago
Boston
It does not appear the resort offers 24 hour room service. The resort usually has a variety of food at the buffet, however, the types of food are subject to change. We do not have any reports on file in regards to the Standard Rooms not being comfortable.
MariaCC
There were no menus in the rooms so I don't know if there was room service or not, we did not need or think about it. Lunch and Dinner there was a variety of fresh fruits, breads, Mexican cuisine, some pasta, meats, and made to order entrees as well. Breakfast menus included eggs made or order or scrambled on the buffet, bacon, sausage( flavored with cumin I think because it had that taco meat flavor) lots of cooked veggies and Mexican breakfast foods, some sweet breads and pastries, cereal, fresh fruits(watermelon was the best). All day the snack bar had hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, chicken wings, nachos, salads, fresh fruit.
We stayed in a privileged room because I wanted a coffee maker and having free wifi was nice too.
Tofutti
No it does not have 24 hour room service the standard rooms are just fine no reason to upgrade unless you will stay in your room the majority of the time. the buffet is very good most things are served every night with a variety of different options breakfast is very good the French toast is the best I have every had . For dinner I recommend the Japanese restaurants at the resort to use your meal tickets on the rest are not worth it but show up for dinner at 6 to avoid waiting for an gourd for a table it is a habbatchi bar style very nic
vacationeres
Standard room is nice and clean you dont have to upgrade.
roxy22
Not sure on the hours of room service, we never used it. We did, breakfast & lunch at the buffet. They serve american food along w/ local specialties. Right next to the pool is an eating area that serves pub food (nachos, french fries, burgers, hot dogs, pizza, etc.) The standard rooms have no coffee maker or mini bar. If you upgrade to a priveleged room you will have a coffee maker and a mini bar that's restocked daily with soda, bottled water and coronas.
shagal
No room service at all. The standard rooms are very standard. The buffet was usually salad, fruits, hot dishes, pizza, and a grilled dish like fish or meat. Lots of desserts and bread.
The restaurants definitely had better food and service but lots of extras not included, eg, bottles of wine, beers in bottles etc.
JelBrooklyn
I am not all that picky but when we got to the standard room we had booked we were greatly disappointed. Upgrade to the privileged rooms you will be much happier. We did that on the spot And they were very accommodating . The buffet was really good. A wide variety. Breakfast had everything you could possibly want to eat for breakfast from fruits to pastries to eggs to cereal. They had an omelette station and also plenty of breakfast meats. Lunch and dinner were good at the buffet as well. They always had salad soup lots of desserts and a wide variety of meats. Of course they had a lot of Mexican options but they always had pasta going and different fish and beef, chicken and rice. It was your typical decent buffet with quite a wide variety of food. They do have a snack bar that has burgers french fries pizza etc. that is open until 2 AM. I cannot remember if room service was 24 hours or not. It's so beautiful there we would've never wanted to stay in our rooms and eat!
Seaspilgrim
Yes, they have room service. My husband and I thought we would be hungry and have to use it but we never did! The breakfast buffet has a variety of fruit, breads, pancakes, French Toast, potatoes, hash browns, sticky buns, oatmeal, and Mexican breakfast foods. There are also stations you can get eggs made the way you'd like them and crepes made the way you want them. The lunch and dinner buffet has tons of options. We only ate at the lunch buffet because we went to the restaurants at night. However, the lunch buffet had Mexican dishes, different types of fresh fish, vegetables, fruit, pizza, pasta, potatoes, rice, salads, and mini desserts. It was good.
I would suggest upgrading. The standard rooms are run down and you don't get the perks you do with the upgraded rooms. With the privilege rooms, you get a minibar in your room that is replenished everyday with bottled water, soda, and beer. You get access to the restaurants for dinner each night, and room service is included with the upgrade not the standard. We did the honeymoon suite, which was well worth the extra money because we got additional perks!

is it comon for most guest or people to be topless at this resort
7 years, 90 months ago
angel
The Catalonia Riviera Maya All Inclusive does not have a specific topless bathing policy. While it is not being prohibited, it may be dependent on the type of guests staying, as European guests are more inclined to do so. We recommend contacting the hotel directly to request additional information.
MellissaCC
Not really. We did notice maybe a 4 or 5 times that we saw topless sunbathers. Definitely the exception versus the rule.
jigyjeff
I was just there for 7 days and saw 5-6 different topless women at Catalonia each day. It's a minority of women and girls going topless, and they all seem to be European. You should expect to see a few people topless, but only a small proportion of guests.
kyshan44
no its not.. however during our whole stay we did see 2 women who were topless.. lol
BnL4Life
No, it's rare. After staying there for 12 days, I only saw two women topless. One was in a remote tanning beach. The other took a quick dip in the water and then put her top on.

yes it is

We stayed in the privileged suite and there is not room service. I'm not sure what the pillow menu is but we specifically asked and there is not room service.

There is not room service. But you can call to request having a bottle of wine or other amenities delivered to your room.

It was around $100 USD per; round trip.
If you wait till you get there, there are about 100 taxi drivers on top of you trying to get your business; it's like seagulls at the beach when you have food; you have something they want (money/USD)!!!
PapiChulo
about $40/person round trip.
Keep in mind it is about an hour from the aiport.
Lucy75
We booked ourselves with
a cab company called blue oval. It was $60 each Way for five of us. The company was waiting for us with the sign upon arrival and they were very punctual and their vehicles were good. Most people staying there had paid more than this. This actually ended up only being $12 a person each way for over an hour ride. Not bad. You can look them up on the web. Another bit of advice, ignore all the people and drivers snd supposed helpers in the cancun airport walk directly out after you get your bag and outside the doors will be all the drivers with signs. We got caught by some of these people trying to sell excursions that said they were going to help us find our driver. That's a bunch of baloney. Keep walking out of the airport!
Seaspilgrim
If you book through cheapcaribbean.com it's $44/person to take a van from the airport to the resort. The van will also pick you up and transport you from the resort to the airport. It's worth the money because you don't have to worry about taking a cab or other sort of transportation after getting off your flight. It's quick and easy. You just find the Olympus tour stand and hop on a van.

As per the information on our site the main difference between the honeymoon privileged and the privileged suite is that the privileged suite rooms are located on the grond floor as they have plunge pools. The honeymoon priviledge does not have plung pools and is located on the higher floors, this room is not considered a suite.
CaitlinCC
stick w/ a priveledged superior or a privelaged suite. We had a suite and never used the living room. Standard room has no coffee maker or mini bar.
shagal
Yes they both have the bathtubs outside.
No the honeymoon room is a room no living room.
privileged suite
Not the honeymoon thats for sure.
And you can only eat at the nice restaurants one time every 2 nights you stay at the hotel. So if u stay 6 nights u get 3 nights at the nice restaurants. If you stay 7 nights you still get 3 Nights of restaurants
Zachatfl
We just got back from our honeymoon. I think the privileged and honeymoon are the same rooms. The Honeymoon is just an additional perk to the privileged rooms, where they bring things to the room, turn down service, etc.
Our room had the plunge pool, with furnished terrace, and it seemed that all the ground level rooms were similar. The balcony rooms seemed to only have either plunge pool, OR furnished balcony, but balcony rooms seemed to have more privacy.
Either way you book, if you want a plunge pool, request it! The travel agents can make note of it (but they will say they can't guarantee it...)
4WDlifeform
We originally booked the privileged suite, but upon arrival we were asked if we wanted to upgrade to the honeymoon suite for an additional $25.00/night. We decided to upgrade and we couldn't have been happier. We had a plunge pool, which we used everyday. Our room was basically a suite. We had an amazing king size bed and a HUGE bathroom with a walk-in shower. It was well worth the upgrade. In addition, we got many perks with the honeymoon suite package. We got a couples dinner with a special surf and turf dinner, we had access to all the restaurants for every night we were there, we had a mini bar with sodas and beers that was restocked everyday, we had turn-down service every night, we had a 25-minute couples massage, we got a free 5x7 photograph after a free photography session with a resort photographer. The honeymoon was well worth the upgrade and I would suggest booking that room! You won't be sorry!
AmandaJo0621
I had a privileged room and it consisted of a lockbox, refrigerator, and a coffee pot. No plunge pool or any other plus.

They accepted American money and gave you back change in American money. The also have a currency exchange office on site.
PapiChulo
yes. and ccd, you don't even need pesos
tahoe13
There is a Cambio/money exchange with a reasonable rate.
Veranda
You really don't need much money here because everything is all inclusive. Anything else you want to do like an excursion or buying something in the gift store or using the spa can get put on your room and at the end of the stay you can pay with a credit card. If you really want to pay with cash you should change it into pesos because otherwise you will get a terrible rate. They do take American but they round everything up and it ends up costing you a lot more. In the evening some pretty cool vendors set up on the grounds and sell things. They do accept American dollars or pesos but no credit cards. Again though, if you use American dollars they will round up and you will actually pay more. Although dollars are widely excepted at this hotel and elsewhere in the riviera maya, My advice for anywhere in this area is to get pesos. You can get them right at the airport when you land.
Seaspilgrim
Everywhere we went in Rivieria Maya accepted US dollars.
NCarolina
The resort did not take American cash. We didn't exchange our money for pesos either. Instead, we just used our credit card for anything we had to purchase. We didn't pay for anything, except we upgraded our room to the honeymoon suite.

is the beach swimmable, or rocky?11 answers

The beach will be a bit more rocky than some of the others in the area.
LaurenCC
The beach is beautiful, but water shoes are needed

The beach area does have some rocky spots but it is very swimable and we enjoyed snorkeling there also.
Deetzman
Sandy beach. Very rocky in water! Not too swimable. More like snorkeling
water.
VJV2013
The beach was extremely rocky. I suggest a pair of swim shoes, preferably harder rather than soft. An old pair of tennis shoes or closed toe sandals.
PapiChulo
Both? There are sections wayyy out that are rocky, but we took the hotel's canoe to get there.
Ozgie
Rocky but try the lagoon
Sesw
The beach has some swimming access and is a bit shallow, best for snorkeling. Bring water shoes. The adjacent hotels in the area have less beach/swimming. Playa del Carman is a short ride away and a great place to spend the day swimming.
Veranda
It is somewhat rocky and therefor You have to walk in a certain area as you enter the ocean but once you get in you really can swim all over. They give you snorkeling gear which is pretty cool.
Seaspilgrim
It is rocky getting in at first and in the middle huge rocks but we swam on either side and we loved it. Swim shoes would probably help.
Bowman
one side is nice the other side the larger side is pretty rocky but swimmerable

Specific brands are subject to change as it is depending upon availability, however, resorts usually have some U.S brands and some local brands.
MariaCC
Corona is the only beer that is "all inclusive"
megarita
Modelo and Corona
Annie13
Only Corona is served inclusive. All others are extra cost.
GDHeights
Corona and some mexican beer.
Zachatfl
just spent a weeks there & the only draft beer they have is corona extra. your mini fridge is stocked with 2 corona cans daily & more if needed.. you can get corona modelo budlight Budweiser Coors light or dos Equis (sp) in a bottle but that cost money
Carolinatraveler
Local beer is included.
Other beers are extra. Several US and EU brands are available.
NCarolina
The main type of beer of tap was Corona. However, they did have Miller Light, but I didn't see anyone drinking it. I would recommended drinking liquor because they have a HUGE selection and can make any mixed drink possible!
AmandaJo0621
Corona and modelo. You have to request corona if u want it. If u just ask for a cerveza, they will give u modelo.

Modelo is at all the bars, but if you upgrade to PRIVILEGE, the Chill Out bar has Corona.

For the price of all inclusive7 answers
Was the all inclusive worth the money or was the inclusive limited to certain restaurants and such.If its open to all beverages and food fine but if there is a catch ...........RAW DEAL then
6 years, 78 months ago
Steve
The All-Inclusive features Include breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, unlimited domestic alcoholic beverages and soft drinks, nightly shows in the theater, all taxes and gratuities.
MariaCC
All inclusive includes all. There were some restaurants, I believe 5 that you had to have a pass for. But I cannot tell you how we got the passes. We had them when we arrived; Mexican, japanese, Italian, Steak and a Tapas bar were the passes required. All others, I think 3 restaurants are on the all inclusives and there is TONS of food...salads, seafood, chips, hamburgers, chicken, omelette stations, and all the alcohol you can manage I will say that like most resorts anywhere, the different color bracelets gets the staff at attention, but if you are member of a club, you should expect that. We were bare bones minimum guests, and were VERY satisfied. a few, and I mean very few US dollars goes a long way with thestaff. Slip the bartenders $2-5 and they remember you!!!
Hokies
The all inclusive covered all beverages (though there was a wine list available at several of the restaurants for an upcharge) and the buffet. Themed restaurants were done through a voucher exchange, with the number of vouchers depending on the length of your stay. I thought it was worth it, especially because the themed restaurants were only open in the evening, and not generally dining experiences I wanted to repeat.
jst1vaughn
All the food is included all drinks included I can eat at two restaurants with the coupons you get on check in, was the all inclusive worth it YES!
ChaChaRN
No catches really. We drank anything and everything and we paid for no food or beverage. If you buy water yes, so if you do keep your container and at the bars outside Margarita Bar and Tequila Bar they have water dispensers you can refill instead of paying all the time for water. Also, you can order anything and they will make it. No catches what so ever. If you spend money it will only be on presents or take home items. Honest Injun. (haha). It is well worth the price and they will try to get you the closest airport to exit and come home. We left right out of our town.
Lela
I think if you decide to only get the Garden Rooms, which is basically like a hotel room you are limited to the number of nights you are allowed to eat in the restaurants. The restaurants are much better than the buffet, so it's worth the money to upgrade and have access to 3-course dinners with good food. Mikada, which was the sushi restaurant was our favorite! However, if you upgrade to the privilege suites you get extra perks including a mini bar in your room that is replenished every day with beverages. This upgrade sold us alone because we got bottled water stocked every day, which came in handy! If you do the Garden Room (cheapest rooms) this option is not available.
AmandaJo0621
Well worth the money! No catch or raw deal! They give you vouchers to the restaurants at night and you choose which one you want to eat at...we ate at the Mexican, japanese. italian, and the steak house. For breakfast and lunch you can eat at the buffet or snack bar. Great food overall.
Vacationyeah
All inclusive applies to all drink and food so it definitely is a better deal. Only thing not included is specialty wines (house red and white are included) food-wise, all inclusive gives you everything but you can pay extra for lobster dinners. All inclusive is great if you want to leave the wallet in the room and simply enjoy your vacation.
What you lose a bit at an all inclusive is that the food is always plentiful but a bit more average in flavor and presentation. You won't get more options not using an all inclusive option though if the resort offers it, so my recommendation is to either go all inclusive or go to a resort that doesn't even offer all inclusive.

can you help me out in what package would have transportation to and from the airport included in the package price?
6 years, 78 months ago
Jeff
For this resort, the transfers are not included, they would be an extra charge. If you would like to talk to one of our sales agents about which resorts do have complimentary transfers, you can call 1-800-915-2322. Thank you.
RobinCC
you can rent a cab or a van or if you book with a service, book the airport transfers, but I would pay for a private transfer, as you will have to stop at other resorts which prolongs your arrival. The airport has plenty of transfer options
Hokies
Transportation has to be booked separately, though there are a number of companies which offer the service.
jst1vaughn
transportation is an add on I paid $65.00 round trip, however your on a van with other travelers, the van makes stops at other resorts and Catalonia Riviera Maya in one of the last stops, so your trip could take up to a hour to get to the resort depending on the other stops.
ChaChaRN
If it is included in your package. We had Olympus and this was included with Cheap Caribbean you get a voucher with your itinerary and show the tour guide and then at the end of you trip you meet with them and they tell you when they will pick you up to return. Thank god it's all included with your package ask your agent and make sure.
Lela
We paid for the additional transportation to and from the airport as an add-on option. It was great. Very easy. Hotel Catalonia is about an one hour van ride from the Cancun airport.
NCarolina
If you book on cheapcaribbean.com you can include van transportation to and from the airport. They are reliable and it was well worth the $40/person to do this! The resort is an hour away from the airport and the van transportation was perfect after a long flight! We didn't have to worry about getting a cab. As soon as we walked off the plane we found Olympus Tours and hoped directly into the van. It was quick and easy.

As far as the cab and how much it costs, that is subject to change, therefore, we do not have access to their fares.

Where can I get coffee in the morning?10 answers

I am not sure what time you wake up, there are a few of the restaurants that serve breakfast starting at 7am. Coffee is probably available then. As far as some place else that might offer coffee earlier, you may have to contact the resort directly. Their email is as follows: rivieramaya.reservaciones@hoteles-catalonia.es
Thank you!
RobinCC
Restaurants for breakfast all open at 6:30 am to 11:00 a.m. and there is coffee all day go to El Mercado or Las Brisas they are open with coffee containers as soon as you walk in door even if you don't want to stay you can go all day for coffee, no coffee maker in room though, but these restaurants are open all day and take on different themes all day long., and their coffee will put hair on your chest (haha), but my sister in law loved it.
Lela
There are to-go coffee cups that can be picked up in the breakfast buffet entrance. You can grab it and walk around the resort or sit on a beach chair and watch the sun rise! They don't have half-and-half at the resort and you'll have to use milk.
AmandaJo0621
Good luck! We had the same problem.

There are coffee makers in the rooms! And bottled water to make it with. But you have to be in a upgraded room. They don't have them in the regular rooms. Or you can go to the breakfast buffet that opens at 6.

All of the buffets have coffee and a to-go counter for coffee too. Also, as long as you don't have a standard room, you'll have a coffee maker in the room.
Tmoose
They have coffee makers in the rooms, which are re-stocked daily. And every morning, we went to the Pure Chill Out bar and had Irish Coffee and Mexican Coffee, brewed right in front of us on the $2000 top-of-the-line machine. There is coffee EVERYWHERE on that resort.....
SpikeDavis
There are single serve drip coffee machines in the rooms. There are also coffee stations at the entrance of each buffet restaurant so you should be covered.

How close is the resort to Cozemel3 answers
I'm booked for Catalonia Riviera Maya from Oct 13th thru Oct 22nd. Is the resort close to the ferry to Cozemel?

This hotel is located about 12 miles from Playa del Carmen. The ferry terminal is located right in downtown Playa del Carmen, about a block and a half from the main square and Plaza Playacar.
AlixCC
Its a 20 minute cab ride to Playa del Carmen where you would catch the ferry. Research your ferry schedule in advance. So that you do not run out of time or miss the last ferry back.

The resort is about 45 mins from Cancun. So Im guessing its about an hour and a half from Cozemel

Does the water affect draft beer. Will I be safe drinking draft.8 answers
Concerned if water is run thru the draft beer lines.
6 years, 76 months ago
Woburn
The beer comes directly from either a bottle or a keg from the brewery. Ask the bartender directly how they clean their beer lines.
AlixCC
You will be fine drinking the beer, that's basically what the wife drank the whole time. They have plenty of it too...you won't get sick no worries
Springers
We drank beer, frozen and mixed drinks. I believe the ice is from filtered water. They also offer containers of cold ice water at every bar and buffet. We never got sick.
starr41282
The draft beer is fine, they dont use the local water for cleaning the lines. Its very safe.
fitter
Shoot, there is NOTHING wrong with the beer taps, or the water they use to clean it. I saw them clean the Corona lines out with a reverse-osmosis filter setup, with sealed bottled water going in! That's like double-redundancy. The beer, by the way, was excellent....even the Modelo.
SpikeDavis
You will be fine with draft beer. Draft beer should never have water atted to it, it's not a concentrate like soda. However, even with soda or juices, the resort imports all drinking water so it is safe for consumption.
Worldtraveler365
The beer is safe to drink.
Sherribi
We have visited this resort 8 times, are about to make our 9th visit there. The water is good to drink, as is the beer. We eve took our grandkids and they drank water everywhere and they were fine. This is an awesome resort. I highly recommend it.

We have confirmed with the front desk that this resort is wheelchair accessible. They also have a few handicap accessible rooms, available upon request.

For the most part, the resort is accessible. The lower area restaurants are definitely accessible (Bamboleo (buffet lunch, a la carte steakhouse dinner), El Mercado (buffet all day), and La Brisas (buffet all day). Upper area restaurants are probably not accessible (unless there is an elevator I did not see). The upper area is entirely a la carte dinner - Italian, Mexican, Creperie and Tapas Bar.

For the most part. One of the buildings does not have elevator so having to go around to access the ramp for my Mom who uses a walker was tiring. The other building had an elevator but was towards the back and required more walking for her.

They offer excursions to two different places. We went to Delphinus and had an amazing time! We got to spend time in the water with dolphins and have hands on opportunities to interact with them. If you go, I would recommend going in the morning as you are not permitted to wear sunscreen as it can make the dolphins sick.

They do provide transportation, you need to get out of the airport as quickly as possible and find the flowered shirts, you will have several people trying to stop you, they will tell you they can tell you where your ride is, tell them you already know (unless you want to stand there for a half an hour while they try to sell you stuff). Once you get outside follow the walk to the right and go to the very end, there you will see the flowered shirts.
Cranky
Cheapcaribbean.com does allow you to purchase transfers to and from the airport to the resort and back. Be advised you are on the transfer companies schedule so you will have to leave 3 1/2-4 hours before your flight time. Our flight was at 7 am and we had to leave at 3:10 am for the airport.
DLWhatley
$50 per person for roundtrip aiport transfer. Well worth the price and easy to find your AmstarMexico representative once outside the airport. They set up a time for the return once you've settled in your room back at the resort.
Sherribi
buy your transfer up front from cheap Caribbean. The resort does not provide transportation. You can get a taxi but cheaper to book in advance
Snorkle
If you book through cheap Caribbean, you have the option to choose a transfer. They are there to get you when your plane lands & they schedule a time for pick up on the day you leave.

If I wanted to upgrade to priviledged should I wait and do it at the resort or call ahead?5 answers
5 years, 68 months ago
adzafic
It is best to book a privileged suite before you arrive, to make sure that the room is reserved for you.
BethCC
I upgraded the room to priviledged when I got to the resort for 4 nights $120 additional dollars
Iraiza
As soon as you book. It may not be available when you arrive and it may be more expensive.
Sherribi
You should book upgrade before you go. Unfortunately, the check in process takes awhile. You want to have your room of choice already so you won't be disappointed! But, you can upgrade at time of check in. Absolutely, upgrade to privilege room! It's worth the extra comfort if (my opinion) you get a ground level garden or residential view. Otherwise, you only have a small balcony without a garden!
1hummergirl
easy to do at resort.

What is the cost to upgrade6 answers
Does it make more sense to upgrade from garden view room now.. or wait till i get there?
5 years, 67 months ago
Chicago, IL
Room rates are always subject to change, if you already have a reservation with CheapCaribbean.com you can certainly call to get a price of how much it would cost to upgrade.
BethCC
We were able to upgrade to Privileged when we arrived, but it will depend on how full the resort is during your stay.
bmoore
Upgrade now before you get there! It is more expensive to upgrade when you arrive and sometimes its not available.
Sherribi
Upgrade before you go! Availability slim. Definitely worth upgrade to privege room and request ground level. If you care for privacy, residential side believe it or not is better in my opinion. You don't have other folks looking down or across from you to spoil your privacy. However grounds people or even your neighbors could peek over privacy wall. If you book two rooms ground level, ask for two rooms next to each other for that reason, since you can have access to each others garden.
1hummergirl
Oh yes pay the money to upgrade for sure you can only eat a limited areas. The privileged beach, bar and food was much better then the main buffet by the pool. The rooms were great the service is great you will be happy if you spend the extra money I traveled with 6 people total which cost a little bit of money but after reading reviews for months before I booked I agree with everyone GO PRIVILEGED OR EXCLUSIVE!
Fekids
I don't think it's worth the upgrade if you not going to be in your room all the time they want to charge you $25per day for an upgrade they don't give you a safety lock for your documentsso that's how they get you to upgrade.my best advice if you can take a little lock that you can lock your carry on and keep your documents safe I don't think you need to upgrade

Gluten free food was not provided ahead of time at any of the restaurants. However, all restaurants were aware of gluten allergies and accommodations were made.

Not really. I have Celiac, and it was very difficult to eat there. Most everything is breaded, or has soy sauce. You can- it's just difficult.

What are the beach lounge chairs like? Are there any upgrades necessary for better seating / chair quality?
5 years, 64 months ago
Matt
We're not aware of any beach chair upgrades that are available. Please check with hotel on arrival.
CCGreg
They are nice. All have a thick cushion on them. You can do the privileged upgrade to get onto the pure chill out bar area but this isnt necessary just to get better lounge chairs and it literally butts up right next to the regular lounge area and the beach area is the same.
sunsational
The beach chairs were not bad, but basic. If you stayed in the upgraded suites there were more luxurious chairs, beach beds and giant beanbags. We didn't have any trouble with the basic chairs and they were comfortable.
lisabelle
We booked the privileged. No problem getting chairs ever. Very comfortable. There are bean bags to lay on or even beds if you prefer.
Snorkle
They were in good condition, just need maybe a slight update. Only for the fact is when your trying to recline it doesn't stay reclined because it doesn't lock into place it will come right back up if your not laying down on it

Bottled water is stocked daily as the tap water is undrinkable. It is recommended to use bottled water even for brushing teeth.
CCGreg
They gave us one which we refilled at the restaurants
nbuddo
Yes, they refresh a large bottle of water on you're bathroom sink every day.

When you check in your room there will be a giant new water bottle in the bathroom. When it runs out, you can refill it at the buffet. The water in the bathroom doesn't taste as good as it does in the restaurants, but it will NOT make you ill. I am sure of that.

You are only allowed 2 bottled waters per day per couple. If you wasn't more, you pay 4 bucks a bottle.

Yes, this resort is kid friendly! They have a Kid's Club offering supervised activities for children ages 4-12. Daily, 9am-5pm, as well as a separate kids pool.
KristenCC
We did not bring our kids, but saw lots of kids there having a good time. The pools have designated areas for small kids.

Yes it is , I traveled with 4 and 6 y o and they provided fun activities for kids.
ArturG
Yes! My 7yr old daughter loved it! They have a kids club during the day with tons of fun activities for the kids. We rarely saw her during our trip because she preferred hanging with the kids' club staff and newly found friends.
nivlek9
It is not adult exclusive. When we were there, in May, there weren't too many kids. There is not much of a night life and you don't see some of the more adult- oriented entertainment that you might see in an adult exclusive resort.

We were in bldg #7 in room 7021. It had an ocean view from the bed as well as from the balcony. One could expect that the rooms above and below (room #s 7011 & 7031) had similar views. We could see from the outside that the room #s ending in 2 and 3 for that building also had ocean views from their balconies as did two rooms on each floor of bldg 6. Bldg #8 which was "exclusive class" had ocean views from 3 sides on each floor as well. can't speak for any others.

For the fancy restaurants the dress code for men says collared shirt and long pants, does this include jeans or only dress slacks?
4 years, 51 months ago
Lynn
We wore everything from jeans and collared shirts and comfortable dresses to shorts and t-shirts at our dinners, I didn't even pack slacks though we saw a few guests who dressed almost formally, meaning jackets and evening dresses, though we also saw very relaxed attire on both the ladies and the gents. There was no enforcement of the dress code, but I'm sure swimsuits or beach-bum attire would be frowned upon.

There was barely any dress code. I think after the first night my husband just wore his flip flops!

We just got back from a week at Catalonia and I would say YES! They had a really nice "mini club" where the kids all hung out with other kids and entertainment staff throughout the day. But, of course that isn't required. The pools are amazing for kids. They have many shallow areas and ledges so kids of all size can feel comfortable swimming. The shows at night are PG so the kids typically went and laughed along.
beachlover1989
I just returned from there with my 9 year old son. While there are not any waterslides, there is a kids club that runs from 10-5 most days (sometimes there is a 1 hour break after lunch). bthornton
The cost changes all the time but the upgrade is more than worth it.
SWBT
Well worth it! At the resort it costs $20 per person per night.
The added meal at Tapas, the Ala Carte breakfast and lunch, Daily stocked mini bar, Pillow Menu!!!, 24 hour room service and additional snacks and drinks at the privileged lounge.
TequilaKris
It is definitely worth it! Better view, better service, access to more areas! The upgrade ranges depending on how much of an upgrade you want. The basic package, privileged I believe, was perfect.
YouthfulTraveler
It's ranges from 20$ or $35 or $40 extra per night per person and it is definetly worth it! You get a lot more 'privileges', they main one is the pure chill bar which is a must!

Can we book our excursions ahead of time?5 answers
I've heard that when we arrive at the hotel, they have reps there ready to book excursions. I was wondering if i can do it in advance??
3 years, 43 months ago
New Jersey
Excursions can be added in advance with Cheapcaribbean's assistance, either at time of booking on website or after booking by calling 1-800-915-2322
CCGreg
I booked it when we got there through a company they have in the hotel lobby and had a lot of problems with it, so I recommend staying away from doing this. You can book it through Amstar either online when purchasing through Cheap Caribbean or you can speak to the Amstar representative in the hotel to help you out. Amstar is the company that runs the shuttle from the airport to the resort, but they also book excursions and can answer any questions you may have about your vacation. They were very helpful when we spoke to them and I wish we booked it through them instead so we could have possibly avoided issues. They are in the lobby bar from 9-1 and 4-6 if you want to book it when you get there.
AllieN
When I booked, there was an option to book everything that they offer at the resort right through the website. The resort does offer rental equipment (free of charge actually) that you can use for a time period, but its just snorkel equipment and kayaks I think.
kaylerossi
Yes you can do it in advance, but me and my boyfriend booked it while we were there and got a discount!
Sydthekid
Yes we called cheapcaribbean a month before our trip to book our excursions. Just make sure you have your booking confirmation on hand when calling.

The Catalonia Riviera Maya will cater to specific diets. Upon your arrival please advise your dietary needs and they will ensure menu options for you. Please keep in mind this is subject to change at any time.
StevieCC
Yes
NatarioandMaraly
I saw a few options for vegetarian meals but I am unsure if they would cater to vegans.
Meglyn
Yes, there were many options
Chewiecommander
not sure about vegans but they do cater for vegetarians - nothing special though.

what does it cost for cab to hotel5 answers
cab ride from airport to hotel
3 years, 42 months ago
butch
We offer airport transportation through a contracted transfer company at an additional cost. If you have any further questions or need help booking, please call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322. For taxi fares, please inquire with the resort.
TimCC
I'm not sure but just to give you an example, it cost us $20 to playa del carmen town which is a 20 minutes ride. The airport is like 45-50 minutes away so it will be expensive. Try to look for a package that include the transportation from and to the airport as we did.
Josette
It Expensive. I would say pay for it in advance to save yourself money and the hassle at the airport. I think if you do a shared cab in advance round trip its $80. Without it, it could be well over $100.00
YouthfulTraveler
We used Cancun Shuttles and did a private van. It was $25 per person for a round trip ride. They were very safe and reliable.
Callie2591
I recommend you take the shared ride from the airport that CheapCarribean offers. The service, cleanliness and time were great.

Is there a security deposit that we have to give or no?5 answers
I want to know because that will determine how many CC i will bring with me.
3 years, 42 months ago
Emily
The resort does require a credit card at the time of check-in for incidentals, and most often they do put a hold on your card. For exact details on this.
JeannieCC
No.
We been here 2 times and nobody asked us about deposit.
No deposit!
Lana811
NO, but you do have to give a CC for incidentals.
Dellygirl
There is no security deposit, however there is an ecological tax that you have to pay which is about $1 USD a day per room.
Shaurva
No, they do not ask about security deposit. They do not accept Discover.
American Express is not accepted elsewhere, so take Visa or Master Card :)

How do you upgrade your room and how much does it cost?5 answers
3 years, 42 months ago
Minnie
You can upgrade your room a few different ways. If you have an existing booking, you would just call in to 800-915-2322 and select the prompt for existing reservations, our next available agent will be happy to assist. Alternatively, you can discuss upgrading with the resort directly at the time of check-in. Pricing is always subject to change, and is based on availability, dates of travel, room category, specials running at that time, etc.
JeannieCC
It depends on how much of an upgrade but from what I saw it was $30- $60 per day per person
NatarioandMaraly
The upgrade from the regular package to the privileged honeymoon package with the outdoor tub was only about $85 a person for 5 days. I think it was worth it. You get a surf and turf dinner, the room is dressed amazing and a bottle of champagne.
Dellygirl
It is like 30 or so dollars per night depending on which room you pick. They’ll give you all the info about that when you check in and I picked the regular room and had no problems without upgrading but I think they want you to upgrade so they push it a little at the front desk so I’m assuming its easy to upgrade while you’re there if they tell you that.
KellyA14
Not worth the upgrade been here twice and they do not give you what you pay for.

Is it safe to ask someone to take your picture?5 answers
If I ask someone to take a picture with my phone, using good judgement of course, would it be safe to assume it'll be fine? Or should I be concerned they're going to run off with my phone or camera?
3 years, 41 months ago
travel bug
That is your choice if you allow someone to use your phone to take a picture for you, you may want to check with the resort staff if they have anyone that could take the picture for you. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
TimCC
Absolutely!
Inside resort you can ask people to take pictures of you! People very friendly! Nobody will run with your camera.
Also resort have own photographer who may help you with pictures.
Lana811
I felt 100% safe here. There is security guards that walk around and lots of staff monitoring the surroundings but overall, everyone sticks to themselves. Feel free to ask for picture assistance or to leave your belongings on a chair while you swim or eat.
YouthfulTraveler
The staff is awesome there and seem trustworthy. They do have someone that comes around to take pictures that you can buy of course, but they do a great job.
kaylerossi
It is definitely safe. We asked resort staff multiple times and never had a problem.

What is the difference between the priviledged suites and the priviledged family suites? Do you get the same amenities with both?5 answers
3 years, 38 months ago
ldillon
They share a lot of the same amenities. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
TimCC
Yes I believe it's the same amenities for all privileged suites
NatarioandMaraly
Privileged is definitely worth the upgrade. There is a private bar on the beach, a private beach and a private (Bloved) dining room that alone makes up for the extra cost. In addition you get room service and extra drinks in your room!
Chewiecommander
I don't have any Idea because I have a regular room.
sunset1234
Family suite is larger. The amenities are the same for either room type.
Iveyt
with privileged you get the ceiling fan in your room and beer in the fridge...

how much is the laundry service and where is washer and dryer ?
is it in-room self service or ?

Memphis, TN
As the rates are offered at the resort and may change at any time, please check with the resort directly for the most up to date information. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
TimCC
Laundry service is something you have to pay for. We didn't opt for it, and I don't remember the prices. They were kind of expensive from what I recall.
It is not self service, I think house keeping picks up the bag of whatever you need cleaned (or maybe you call the desk).
kaylerossi
Not required.
sunset1234
$75 for barely 10 items
BUSYMOMOF2
No sure if has that service
Rosaldi
Prices varies. It depends on your room. Whether it is a standard room or privileged room.

What time does the pool close?5 answers
2 years, 31 months ago
Joe
This can vary depending upon the time of year, etc. Generally the pool will close sometime around sunset. For a full schedule, please contact the resort directly.
JeannieCC
about 7 pm
Duegan88
Pools close at 7PM. Seems early, but it does minimize the noise, as pools are located near the restaurants.
Jim77
The pools closed early, and that's when they started cleaning them. I think it was around 7. It's around the time everyone is going to dinner.
kaylerossi
The pools and beaches close at 7

can you bring your own cup/tumbler from home?5 answers
like a bigger size one, will the bartenders fill it up?

They may not for sanitation purposes. Please check with the resort directly. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
TimCC
Yes! I just got back from there (it's a MUST go trip by the way). I took my Yeti and they filled it up every time
BeachBum1209
Yes, bartenders were filling up cups and tumblers from home.
Callie2591
Yes I saw many people doing this since it is so hot the drinks get warm pretty quickly
Sabrina1003
Yes, I saw many guests who did this. Next time my Yeti is coming with me!!!

Should I book an excursion online before the trip or when I arrive at the resort?5 answers
2 years, 28 months ago
Chelsea
We generally recommend booking prior to travel, as you can reserve a spot ahead of time as opposed to when booking at the resort, they may not have the space in the desired excursion.
JeannieCC
You can book online, but I would wait until you arrive at your resort, they were offering excursions at discounted rates when we were scheduling our return shuttle service, so you may get a better deal !
Sabrina1003
It would generally be cheaper to book ahead of time. Especially for very touristy places like Xcaret, they provide discounts the further out you book before your trip. If it's a local excursion, or just a taxi ride away from an area you want to visit, it's unnecessary to book transportation way in advance.
Meglyn
It depends on the excursion but I wouldn't hesitate to wait and use the concierge service at the hotel.
BEACHBUMSOONER
They often give a better price at the resort. However certain place like Xplor can be booked at home for a discount and you need to take a taxi to and from. You will save money that way.
