39th Anniversary Vacation
CATALONIA FEBRUARY 21, 2020 – MARCH 6, 2020 Thank You Royal Catalonia Tulum Resort for a wonderful vacation. You have an amazing team of employees who were so much fun, always kind, polite and helpful in every way. The Catalonia Tulum is so relaxing, quiet & peaceful, it’s a wonderful place to completely relax & rejuvenate. Being able to sit amongst a jungle setting when sitting on the deck or watching the cute Coatis search for food or seeing their eager curiosity. Being privileged junior suite guest for the second year in a row was well worth it. We enjoyed each of the restaurants, always able to have a great meal at any of them. Thank you Quetzabel for always having a smile on when greeting us in the buffets. Enjoyed all 3 bars, we sure miss the Frozen Margaritas & Bloody Caesar’s. Rauxa was a wonderful evening, the food was delicious. Our biggest shout out is to Alberto, our Room Attendant, our room was always so clean & inviting. Thank you for the beautiful towel art everyday, most of all was when our room was so beautifully decorated for our anniversary. Thank you for your friendship & kindness, no language barrier can stop a friendship. Spending our days around and in & out of the pool or when we were on the pool beds, we definitely would like to thank Lilia & Marissa for replenishing our drinks so often; and to the staff at the B-Aqua Bar, the Tequila Bar & the Margarita Bar for always making great Tequila Boom Booms. Also thank you to Carmen with Maravillosa Club and Daniel with Guest Services for the enjoyable conversations. Being able to be in or at the ocean was such a pleasure, so invigorating to enjoy Mother Nature’s beauty. Thank you, Juan, with Pro dive, and all of the Dive Team for setting up each of our dives & having all the details so organized. The reef dives were awe inspiring, seeing turtles, lobsters, green & spotted Eels and so many other fish & corals. Our Cenote dives with Olivier, showed us such beautiful stalagmites & stalactites. Thank you to Pro Dive Catalonia Puerto Aventuras, to Dominque, Elizabeth & the all the other staff members that provided us with wonderful dives. We have already let others know of your beautiful resort. Thank you for a wonderful 2 weeks of rest & relaxation.
A a lush and sumptuously relaxing experience
We arrived at the Catalonia Royal Tulum for a 7 day and night stay, greeted first by the majestic and elegant lobby. Within moments my wife and I were sipping cool margaritas and escorted by our guide Eddy, who was our source of information and support all week. Each morning we woke for a calm stroll through the jungle, taking some time to admire the flora and fauna, to watch a heron poised at the edge of the pond or the turtle swimming peaceably. La Selva, the breakfast buffet serves a scrumptious assortment of foods (I had a fresh vegetable omelette, chorizos, organic yogurt and fresh juice each morning). The Palapa offers grilled meats, sushi and a varied salad bar all a stone's throw from the ocean. Because it was vacation, we'd take to the snack bar nibbling on their buffalo wings (a must try for wing lovers). The beach is tremendously relaxing with a warm turquoise sea perfect for snorkeling and swimming. I spent my mornings curled up on a pillow with my book and espresso or taking a jog up and down the shoreline against a nice cool breeze. We took our time each night to explore each restaurant, and none were a disappointment. I have a ketogenic diet and never found myself without options. My absolute favourite spot was the Tao Cat restaurant whose wings (again I'm a wing nut) were to die for. Night life was filled with comedy shows, trivia, concerts and tequilla shots. We spent many evenings under the stars at the beach regaling our days. The staff was wonderful, they would joke and laugh with us and each other and I very much enjoyed my time drinking at the bar learning about local life and the people who held the resort together. We purchased some tubes to float around in the pool with (a perfect strategy for balancing a drink in each hand) and my wife grew quite accustomed to the swim up bar's mudslides. Just down the road we enjoyed a local cenote and easily moved about Tulum to excursions swimming with turtles, finding local taco restaurants and visiting ruins. Other bits of note: Omar, the masseuse will make rounds about the pool offering up free massages. Raul at the bar makes the best margarita and if you're looking for cigars, simply wait for Cheapo Fillipo to pop his head around the corner on the beach. Oveall, if you are looking to relax at a place that has it all without the overwhelming scale of a massive resort and if like us you need to escape from your maddening children, I cannot recommend this place enough. I hope it will become our tradition to return to this place over and over again.
Catalonia Royal Tulum
Beautiful beach, delicious food, lovely rooms! The location in Xpu-Ha allows you to walk for a mile north on a mostly secluded beach. Going south you encounter a lively public beach called Xpu Ha. Buffets were generally very good and the specialty restaurants were also. No reservations required. Rooms were spacious and very clean. You must be able to walk at least a quarter mile to get to the beach and lobby from your room. No elevators and 3 floors per building. All the staff was extremely helpful and gracious.
Awesome Resort and Amazing Staff
Not much more to be said than what other travellers have already said excpt to reiterate that this was an awesome vacation. We were able to visit this awesome resort for 11 amazing days staying Privilege and totally enjoying our time meeting a lot of awesome people from various countries as well as fellow Cdns. What made this resort even better than most is the staff. 1st and foremost is Cesar Manager of BLoved, He runs this restaurant taking personal interest in each and every customer who enters, making sure that Everything is Perfect. ( I have only seen this in the past by Owners of Quality Restaurants) My compliments to Management is seeing His Importance to their Team. Also special service from Erich at the Tequila Bar , Aida in Privilege Buildfing 2 taking special care of us when the daytime staff had not serviced our room but She did, Wilbert at the Juice bar making our anti-aging juice We feel so uch younger LOL And the rest of the staff too numerous to mention. The location could not have been better, the Beach no rocks, swimming with both Angel and Needle fish. Beautiful walkway from the Lobby to Swimming pool/Restourants and Beach area. Unfortunately the Resort is closing due to Covid 19 as friends we made and waiting for their flight to Germany have been moved to Maroma which is just as Special to us but is a family resort not Adults only as the CRT is. We will return MOST definately but hoping to take our Children and Grandchildren next year so Maroma here we come. Keep up the good work and Hats off to the Management for putting together an Awesome Crew.
Wow! Definitely going back!
This hotel was a nice surprise. We booked with the Privilege package, which offers a few perks. We were there during the holidays, and the first few days, we heard mostly Italian and Spanish. After New Year's, it seemed like quite a few of the Europeans went home. The place itself is beautiful. From the main lobby, there are several restaurants and bars. Then you walk across a pond (with fish, turtles, herons) into the jungle. From the path, you can barely see the hotel buildings, except for the entrances. This is a landscaped jungle, you can see staff tirelessly working at keeping it maintained. There are 3 buildings on each side of the path. We were in the first one on the right, for Privilege bookings. These rooms have been renovated more recently. We were on the top floor, so we could see a bit over the treetops. Many birds would come right up to the balcony. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and towels beach towels were always delivered, even if we were still at the beach with the ones we were using. The room was kept immaculate, like everything else in the resort. As you go down the jungle path, where you can see coatis if you stop (they come right up to you, hoping for food), lizards, birds, etc, you come to a wooden walkway over jungle. (This is a little spooky at night especially when the light changes to red.) The bridge brings you to the pool and beach areas. The pools were nice, the beach was great, finding a chair was not a problem, we even got beds a few times. Poolside and beach service is great. Now food- wow! There are so many options, and the best thing is that you DO NOT NEED RESERVATIONS for anything! (Except NYE supper) We loved that we could just choose what we wanted, whenever we wanted. If you don't like to wait though, going earlier for supper (before 8pm) is a good idea. Staff- Everyone at the resort is polite, smiling, and willing to help. They will speak English, Spanish, Italian...even some French. Many of the wait staff seemed eager to practice French when they heard we were from Quebec. While we prefer English, they were so enthusiastic, it was fun to converse with them in French too. If you are planning on going to this resort, I recommend joining the Facebook group. You can find all the information you could possibly want, and plenty of helpful tips. I only learned about it near the end of my stay. This was hands-down my best vacation to date.
