Beautiful as always

This was our seventh trip to Coral Gardens over the last 10 years. As always it met our needs extremely well. This time the very amply sized ocean facing room (with a balcony - gorgeous at sunset and a kitchen area) we were staying in had one or two minor issues since it was newly added to the ownership used by Cheap Caribbean (there are two offices and two sets of owners), but Matthew, the Managing Director and his team were excellent in their customer service to resolve them - or find a workaround - easily and effectively. One of the good things is that the ugly empty building next door has been torn down in the two years since we were last there, and that gives an open space on the left (from the shore). The beach is as gorgeous as ever and for us the greatest benefit is snorkeling on the reef directly offshore. We have noticed that Grace Bay is no longer as undiscovered as when we first started visiting, even in the off season (perhaps then also due to the recession), and we wince at the lack of care some swimmers take with ensuring they don't damage the reef, which has definitely deteriorated over that time. That said, we still swam with a turtle twice, and saw all the usual amazing fish that we have seen in the past (as well as the resident but very benign - so far - barracuda). The beach is also suitable for small children as it is very calm water. If you are visiting for the first time, our recommendation is to rent a car for the week, as this allows for a lot of choice in restaurants and to visit other parts of the island. We also cooked from time to time, since meals are not cheap here for the most part, although places just down the road in Turtle Cove like Sharkbite are great for casual dining. The management of Coral Gardens can arrange the rental as well as day trips - which we tried for the first time, and loved the half day trip which included snorkeling on a different area of the barrier reef, visiting the Iguana Island (which had amazing sea life as well) and trying conch salad. All in all it was a great half day out. Others in the resort had gone diving and were rhapsodizing about swimming with a school of dolphins, so that would be amazing for those who dive.

Great introduction to Caribbean

This trip was our first to TCI, and will likely return. Coral Gardens is accurately described in the CC.com ad. Since we planned the trip with a lower budget, we chose a non-ocean view room. The garden room was clean but a bit tight for my wife and I to bypass each other in the sleeping area. The room was comfortable and the daily maid service was exceptional and quite friendly and always positive. The on-site Somewhere restaurant offers delicious and generous helpings of food - and tasty drinks too. The upper dinning area is open to the breezes and offers a great view of the water. The prices are reasonable considering the location. The highlight of Coral Gardens is the coral reef just a few steps directly in front of the property. We snorkeled for hours each day. We planned on doing a few excursions, but the quality snorkeling at that reef was tough to walk away from. We swam with rays, eels, turtles, dozens of species of vibrantly colored fish, and even a few barracuda. A highlight each morning was our greeting by the beach and pool manager, Gerome. Gerome always had a smile and a fun story to share. A honest and caring person always had an answer and tips that enhanced our experience on the beach and reef.

Best snorkeling

Resort is right on beach. Friendly and helpful staff. One restaurant on site, small island very easy to explore. Pool is small didn't use as was there for the beach. If want excursions, they pick you up on the beach right out front. The water was warm, calm and clear. Thursday night Fish Fry is a must and a lovely 15 minute walk down the beach. Pros: best snorkeling location, not crowded Cons: if you want lots of restaurants and shopping stay at the other end of Grace Bay.

Be more upfront on accommodations

Coral Gardens was nice. And the staff was extremely helpful. In booking the trip, it's not clear that this is not a resort, so there is no breakfast, room service, stocked min-fridge, bottled water in the room, coffee, etc. Basically you are staying in someone's condo that is being rented out. There is one restaurant on site - Somewhere Cafe, which is very good. But it's pricey. Breakfast every day - at least $60-70 for two(mean, coffee, and 2 mimosas each). So you'll need to rent a car to eat elsewhere.

Located along a 12-mile stretch of white sand and crystal water at Grace Bay Beach, this resort puts you right in front of the best snorkeling reef on the island, making it a diver's playground.

After a day of sun and sand, head back to your room and enjoy the sounds of the ocean from your private balcony or patio. The roomy, apartment-sized suites all feature a well-equipped kitchen, plus a comfortable living room, and all accommodations include free Wi-Fi access, so you can update your friends on your day in paradise!
