Beautiful

Arenal Lodge is just beautiful. The rooms are just awesome all wood with double doors opening on to the veranda. View from veranda of the Arenal volcano. Grounds are a site to see so colorful and so well kept. I would recomend Arenal Lodge anyone who wants to see this side of Costa Rica!

Away from everything

3.5 Hours ride from the airport. My husband and I stayed in this hotel end of September which is a low season or rainy season. We felt like we were the only ones there beside another couple. There is no shuttle service and to get to La Fortuna (taxi is about $25/$30). The one thing we hated was the road to get to the hotel I would not recommend this hotel is you want to do activities and explore. If you plan to stay in the hotel throughout and enjoy the infinity pool, jacuzzi or the volcano view then this is the hotel you want. For us it was scary, creepy, and dead zone. Hotel staff were really nice and that’s why I feel bad giving a bad review. This hotel is away from everything so unless you have your own car and you are really good driver (road is very bad) then you should be okay.

Arenal and Costa Rica

Great value with Cheap Caribbean. Put us in a great hotel, the Arenal Lodge. If you are not looking for the typical "resort" experience, Arenal is perfect. Beautiful site set on remarkable grounds and with remarkable views. Great people, outstanding service, very nice and comfortable rooms, good food and dining. The people were incredibly friendly, helpful, kind and provided a wonderful experience during our stay. Our transfer people with Jacamar Tours also were very good (Arenal uses Jacamar for airport transfer). We handled our own adventures (Jacamar has a resident tour person at Arenal if you need this service) and covered serval hundred miles during our eight day stay. From Coco beach on the Pacific side to hiking many spots like Rio Celeste, the Arenal National Park, Danta Falls at the Arenal Observatory and Llano Cortez Catarata and the great evenings in La Fortuna we had a wonderful time. If you need great local transportation we recommend Rodrigo with Taxis Fortuna. Local driver with lots of knowledge of the area and a magnificent personality.

Great Value Stay

We loved the Room and loved the Views. Everything was incredible up in the mountains and around the Volcano. The staff was vary friendly and took care of everything we needed or wanted. My wife had a incredible massage while we were there and they have many things to do on site as well. A trip to Costa Rica should be on everyone's bucket list. It took us 8 years and we are ready to go back.

What's to Love

The Arenal Lodge staff is friendly, and the complimentary rainforest nature walking tour is a great way to take advantage of the incredible environment.

What We'd Change

It is a bit of a trek over some bumpy hills to get there, but that's the only way to really get close to nature.

Why You Should Go

The lodge is nice and secluded, but still so close to the attractions in the area. And you just can't beat the amazing view of the rainforest, lake and the awesome Arenal Volcano!

Hotel Description

Arenal Lodge: Share a Rainforest Adventure

When there's been just way too much concrete in your life, get back in touch with nature and enjoy a stay at Arenal Lodge located on 2,000 acres of tropical rainforest in the shadow of the famous Arenal Volcano. The beautiful rainforest houses hundreds of the exotic birds, butterflies, tropical flowers and trees of Costa Rica. Situated on a hill, Arenal Lodge offers some of the best panoramic views available of the towering Arenal Volcano. It's a perfect spot for a private getaway.

The cool mountain climate is perfect for the year-round recreational activities that include horseback riding, a complimentary guided rainforest nature walking tour and access to the lodge's breathtaking butterfly garden. Guests can relax in the outdoor infinite edge swimming pool or in one of the three outdoor Jacuzzis. How many times will you get a chance to swim in a pool while enjoying a view of a volcano? There are rainforest trails you can explore on your own where you can watch a variety of bird species flying overhead. Look out for Stephania, one of the local wild blue and gold Macaws that lets you feed her fresh fruit and sunflower seeds. Just don't forget your comfy shoes! And relaxing indoors is easy with a game of billiards at the Lodge's pool table.

Dining is both easy and delicious at the La Fortuna restaurant located on the property. The local and international cuisine is organic and locally produced when possible and served by a friendly waitstaff. Vegetarian or gluten-free eaters can eat to their hearts' content as the chef is happy to accommodate special dietary requests. The restaurant and its incredible view of the Arenal Volcano and beautiful lake attracts locals, too. While you're there, try out the bar's specialty drinks and take in the atmosphere.

Don't forget to venture out and take advantage of the hot springs heated by the volcanic activity. Or take a tour of La Fortuna, the town about 4 miles from the volcano with places to see and shops to browse through. Looking for more adventure? Ask the staff about organizing a canyoneering or kayaking trip!

This hotel is NOT All-Inclusive, but does include a daily complimentary American breakfast. Additional food and drink must be purchased separately.
