Decent stay at the Royalton
To be completely up front I booked this resort because I got an incredible deal for my family of 4 and we wanted to be closer to the airport. Our last trip we stayed close to Tulum and it was more than 90 mins on the shuttle to the resort. The Royalton is 15-20 mins to the airport which was great. That being said, the beach area is affected by the mangroves and is not the nicest. Pros: Big resort but easy to find short cuts to things Lots of pools- no towel cards was a nice change but you had to grab them early Kids club, my 10 year old loved the crafts and air conditioning Gym~ I know people like to relax on vacation but this is the best gym I have experienced at a resort. It’s not cramped, great equipment, they have fitness classes (not early enough for me) Restaurants~ we had no trouble getting reservations but the resort was not at capacity as sections were closed for renovations before the full shut down. This I think made it easier for us. The only restaurant that wasn’t great was the Teppanyaki. The food wasn’t great and it was very hot. Otherwise we loved the breakfast buffet and dinners. Coffee shop~ often had a line but was great coffee and you could get snacks and ice cream Room~ we had an ocean front one bedroom presidential suite. Not only was it the best view, the room was very spacious. We were able to get a cot as well so our girls didn’t have to share the small pull out bed. Cons: Entertainment wasn’t great. Not a lot of activities during the day. Lunch~ Near the pools, food options were limited. Italian was nice but a sit down. The food trucks were meh and the snack bar was awful. Fries and over cooked burgers/ chicken strips get tiring. Shade~ seems like most of the umbrellas were missing. They don’t have palapas but perhaps they can find other ways to create some shade. I know it’s Mexico but even the locals don’t sit in the sun in mid July. Bar service was hit or miss. Only one day did a server stop and ask if we wanted to order a drink near the pools, out of 8 days. Had to ask for things repeatedly to get them. We had no hair dryer or steamer in our room, took 3 days to get them. Room service was a nice perk but took a minimum of an hour and was never correct. Location~ close to the airport, far from everything else. If you just want to stay on the resort, it’s great. To be honest, I don’t think we experienced the Royalton the way it normally operates. We were there about three weeks before they fully shut it down. They were running out of things, the entertainment wasn’t great and very sparse. The pools are a bit run down and they seemed to be very short staffed. We still enjoyed our stay. But I am not sure I would return at the prices they normally charge because like I mentioned, I found an amazing deal.

First time in Mexico
This was my first time in Mexico. I have dreamed of going my whole life and I finally was blessed to go this past March for my birthday. My husband and I fell in love. We loved the views. We loved the people, especially Hilda and Rodgrigo our butler. We loved it so much we are heading back again in January for 10 days instead of 7!! We are excited to see the renovations and can't wait to see some familiar faces.

Excited to see renovations
The location was nice and secluded although if you want to get off the resort you'll have to arrange that. Atmosphere was nice, very humid. Rooms were very nice, clean and updated. Value was ok as some of the restaurants were already closing for renovations while we stayed the weekend before the resort closed on Monday. The noise level was never an issue and we even stayed near the kids side of the resort. Service was pretty phenomenal by all wait staff.
- AdvisoryPlease be advised that the local government of Quintana Roo, Mexico, has updated the Environmental Sanitation Tax. Effective immediately, this tax will be charged at $79.20 Mexican pesos per room, per night.
- AdvisoryOperations at Royalton Riviera Cancun, An Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort & Casin will be temporarily paused from August 18 to December 6, 2025, to finalize this complex renovation. This includes refreshing the motor lobby, main lobby, main pool areas, walkways, elevators and suites, as well as elevating the Convention Center, ensuring it remains a premier venue for high-profile events.
- AdvisoryWhile we diligently work to transform this property into spaces that reflect the very best of modern all-inclusive luxury, existing reservations will be protected at other Blue Diamond Resorts in the destination, ensuring minimal disruption for our guests. Although Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun has been prepared to accommodate existing reservations, additional options will also be available depending on the specific characteristics of each booking.
