Not the Luxury It Claims to Be
The resort looks stunning in photos, and the grounds genuinely are beautiful, but everything beyond that first impression falls well short of a true luxury experience. If you are considering booking, you should know what to expect. Our swim-up room was nothing like the promotional images. It stayed hot and humid because the air-conditioning barely worked, the room showed clear signs of wear, and we had several small maintenance issues. The terrace was dark, enclosed and overlooked dense vegetation, not the bright, open setting advertised. Housekeeping and minibar refills only happened when we repeatedly asked. The Preferred Club added almost no real value. Access was never checked, loungers were impossible to secure unless you arrived extremely early, and nothing about the area felt exclusive. The butler service was equally disappointing, performing only basic tasks and offering no proactive help. Food and drinks were another major let-down. Many dishes were lukewarm or bland, service was inconsistent, and the resort simply doesn’t have enough restaurants for the number of guests. Long waits were common, and the drinks were so diluted they barely had flavour. Relaxation was difficult. The pools were dominated by loud, alcohol-fuelled groups, creating a chaotic atmosphere rather than a luxury one. Mosquitoes were everywhere, around the gardens, walkways and swim-up rooms, making it hard to sit outside for long. The beach, while naturally pretty, was crowded and full of interruptions from peddlers. Management urgently need to take a serious look at how this hotel is being run. The lack of oversight is evident in the service, the food, the upkeep, and the general atmosphere. For perspective, we moved to a nearby hotel and instantly experienced genuine luxury: excellent food, modern rooms, attentive service, at less than half the price. Before you book, consider this carefully. The grounds may be lovely, but the experience does not match the cost or the promises. There are far better hotels in the area offering true luxury for much less.

Fantastic holiday
Perfect holiday for couples who want to relax in luxury. The hotel is exquisite and just beautiful in every way. Very clean. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. We were preferred club and it was totally worth it for being able to use the preferred club pools and the upgraded room and drinks etc. we had a butler Eramy, he was incredible and was so attentive and kept us to date with the ongoings daily, helped with reservations and other things we needed to make our stay special. There is always lots going on, and the entertainment team is fantastic! You can also use dreams hotel next door and we did this to eat and use the water park which was fun. The restaurants here and the food in general is amazing! Such good quality and choice. We had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend.

Perfect Blend of Relaxation and Entertainment
Review: We came looking for a relaxing getaway rather than a party scene, and this resort delivered exactly that. At the same time, if you’re after lively pools and late-night entertainment, those options are available too—it truly offers something for everyone. Arrival & Transfers: Airport arrival was smooth, and having the brown/yellow-shirted staff assist was a big help. We booked a private transfer through Amstar, and it was excellent—well worth the cost for comfort and convenience. Check-In & Property: Check-in was quick, and we were able to start our vacation right away. A little more guidance on Preferred Club amenities would have been helpful, as some preferred facilities are tucked away, but overall, no complaints. The property is beautifully maintained and thoughtfully designed. Sales efforts were noticeable but never pushy. Plenty of great excursions were offered, though we chose to stay on-site. Pools & Service: The quiet pool was perfect for us—$50 for the day to relax on a bali bed was all we needed. We booked Bali beds there for four days and one day at a beach cabana ($250), which included lunch on the beach. Special mention to Euri at the Bali beds—his service was outstanding: attentive, cheerful, and quick with drink recommendations. Beach Experience: Beautiful beach, white soft sand and volleyball and activities setup. Water was great. Whole of the water area enclosed with floating barriers, but assume this is to reduce the sargassum on the beach (seaweed) which shouldn't bother anyone. all the same a tractor raked up all of it. Licensed vendors (cigars, rum, jewelry, hair braiding, massages) are allowed on the beach, while unlicensed operators stay at the high-water mark. A polite “No, gracias” worked every time, though repeated offers became a bit tiring. I did end up buying some nice Dominican cigars - and they were great! Dining: The romantic dinner on the beach was a highlight—beautiful setting with about 10 couples dining under the stars. We were Preferred Club members but mostly enjoyed the buffet, which was excellent for all meals. We also tried the French, steakhouse, and Japanese restaurants—each was outstanding. The French restaurant even featured live violin music. Amenities: The gym and yoga room looked great, and the spa appeared impressive, though we didn’t use them. Casino and nighttime entertainment were available, but we opted for quiet evenings. Tips & Practical Notes: Tipping is optional; we chose to tip but never felt pressured. Mosquitoes weren’t an issue for me, though my wife had a few bites—bug spray is a good precaution. Bringing small Yeti cups was a great idea: perfect for coffee, tea, and keeping poolside drinks cold. We skipped excursions and most Preferred Club perks (although we did eat in some preferred restaurants) but still had an incredibly relaxing stay. So, I'd say getting "Preferred" is great, but be sure to leverage all the benefits! Departure: Airport departure tip: pay $20 at airport for priority immigration and scanning—it’s worth it. Also, tipping for luggage assistance made the process smoother. Overall: If you’re looking for a mix of relaxation and entertainment, this resort is a fantastic choice. It truly offers the best of both worlds.

Amazing experience, 5 Stars
Fantastic! If you are looking to go to Punta Cana, this resort will not disappoint. The staff are excellent, very friendly and always looking to make your experience more enjoyable. The food was great, always a lot of options to choose from at the buffet. The beach and pool were beautiful, and always kept clean. I would absolutely recommend staying at the Secrets Royal Beach Resort.

Decent resort but not as good as other Secrets Properties
We've been to a couple of Secrets resorts now and this one was our least favourite. The staff were super friendly and attentive but the food and cocktails were not great at all and even got multiple members of our group of 6 sick. It took us going to 3 different bars to get a gin and soda that was drinkable and even then it was served in a paper cup that fell apart as you were drinking. If you want the romantic experience of other Secrets properties this is not the resort for you.
