Dec 25, 2025Left a bad taste in our mouths, won't be returning
We had such a great experience with the Secrets Playa Mujeres resort in Cancun, so decided to give Secrets Royal Beach a go. What a mistake, we won't be coming back. We arrived late in the evening after a long flight that was delayed, and just wanted to get checked in and go to our room. The hard sell began at the check in desk, where the concierge inmediately pushed us towards the Preferred Club that cost an extra $1000. Even after we said we didn't want to upgrade to the Preferred Club, he made sure to point out ALL the extra amenities available to Preferred Club guests (that we wouldn't have access to). The bell boy then took us on a long roundabout tour of the resort and lingered in our room, clearly vying for a tip. Despite us telling him we were tired and just wanted to get settled, he continued to point out basic things (like the balcony, the fridge, the TV). I understand he has a job to do, but this came across as extremely tone deaf and insensitive. Not a great first impression. Later in the trip, my partner felt very unwell after dinner. He had extreme vomiting and diarrhoea all night, most likely poisoning from the buffet food since symptoms kicked in very quickly and we had not left the resort. This was not a surprise when a few days later, we saw a member of staff working the meat grill station pick up some raw chicken with tongs, and then pick up cooked chicken off the grill to serve to customers, with the SAME tongs. No wonder he got food poisoning! In general, the resort is beautiful and the room was very comfortable, but the quality of service is extremely lacking for what we paid. I get that it's just a job, but staff were generally lacking in care, rude, or excessively performative in a way that was insincere and off putting. On our way out of the Himitsu restaurant, our waiter didn't even make eye contact as we said thank you/goodbye, he was busy searching the table for a tip. The best member of staff who deserved a tip and more was the cleaner who tackled the bathroom and left it sparkling after my partner's bout of food poisoning. Needless to say, we will not be returning to Secrets Royal Beach.

This was our first time booking with secrets. The locations was great, the beach was clean and relaxing. The room was clean and nice but needs updating. Our butler was nice but we mostly chatted thru Whatsapp, he always messagesd to check it’ll needed anything but I didn’t see him for 2 days. I’ve stayed at other resorts with butler and the experience was totally different. The butlers were hands on. We booked in the preferred club was good could but he could be better. I would stay at this resort again

Excellent Resort, highly recommend. We had my wife and I and 2 children 20 and 22, they both said this was their best vacation they have had. Plenty to do and stayed entertained.

Simply Exceptional
An absolutely exceptional stay at Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana! The service was outstanding across the board — from the Barefoot Grill chef and the energetic entertainment team to the incredible Preferred Club staff. Julio Jones H.J. went above and beyond as our VIP concierge, Vicente delivered consistently amazing service at the pool and beach, Nery made the best coffees with the warmest hospitality, and Obispo & Sebastian kept the pool vibes high with fantastic cocktails. Truly unforgettable service from an amazing team — we cannot thank you all enough!

Amazing
The overall experience was amazing. The staff was amazing. Our butler Manuel was very attentive to all our needs. The drifters bartenders Obisbo and Sebastian were amazing 👏
