Excellent, with a few tweaks around the edges
We spent 10 nights at Secrets Royal Beach in a Preferred Club Tropical View room. Although we usually receive an upgrade through UVC, the resort was fully booked—largely due to guests rebooking from damaged properties in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa. Even without an upgrade, we enjoyed our stay and found a lot to love about the resort. Room & Comfort Our room (3456, Building 3) was comfortable and well-appointed. The bed was excellent, with plenty of pillows and convenient USB outlets at the bedside. The lighting controls were also clearly marked, which was surprisingly helpful. The tropical view lived up to its name, and the patio was pleasant, though a couple of loungers or a small couch would have made it even better. The bathroom functioned fine overall, though the water pressure could be hit-or-miss. During peak early-evening shower times, hot water was more of a trickle; otherwise, it was passable. The only other room quirk was that the thermostat seemed locked at a chilly temperature—better than not having AC, but colder than we would have preferred. Pools, Beach & Daytime Experience We spent most of our time at the Preferred Pool, with a few days at the main pool. Chairs at the Preferred area filled up quickly, so arriving after 8:30–9:00am could be tricky. That said, the beach always had plenty of loungers and palapas, and it’s absolutely beautiful. There are quite a lot of vendors selling various souvenirs, tours, massages and hair-braiding on the beach. It can be overwhelming, but they’re all very nice and non-threatening, if not persistent. A few thoughtful touches that went a long way: bins of left-behind floats for communal use, easily accessible leftover sunblock (a lifesaver given the gift shop prices), and great tips from fellow travelers in the resort’s Facebook groups. Dining The food throughout the resort was consistently good. A few highlights: Bluewater Grill offers a Surf & Turf chef’s special not shown on the menu. Their giant hamburger is delicious—and enormous. Bring friends. Portofino at Dreams didn’t wow us due to the half-buffet setup, but we were thrilled to discover that Olio transforms into an Italian restaurant at night. It’s slightly tucked away by the beach, making it easier to snag a table, and we found it to be a real hidden gem. Preferred lunch at Olio served some of our favorites of the trip, especially the Dominican Sancocho and jerk chicken. Barefoot Grill is a handy lunch option when you don’t feel like walking back to the main buffet. Entertainment The nightly entertainment in the plaza/theater was excellent. The sound system is top-tier, the performers are talented, and the dance party afterward is always a good time. The Queen show was a bit shorter than expected at around 40 minutes (with several extended solos), but still enjoyable. Even with the resort running at or near capacity, it rarely felt crowded. Lines at restaurants were reasonable—especially if you arrive before 7–7:30pm—and we never struggled to find seats for evening shows. We also appreciated that the resort no longer requires long pants for men at dinner. If anything, a simple “no gym shorts” guideline might strike the right balance. Staff Appreciation The staff at Secrets Royal Beach is truly outstanding, and several individuals made our stay memorable: Alfredo “Señor Fettucini” (Butler): He checked in multiple times a day, handled all reservations (for 11 of us!), and sent daily activity schedules. He manages a lot with incredible grace. Olio staff: Ramon and Yordaliza are exceptional servers—both are friendly, attentive, intuitive and were consistently excellent. Fany Luz at the Preferred Pool: always upbeat and incredibly attentive. Robert at the Preferred Lobby Bar and Nataniel at the Preferred Pool Bar: friendly, skilled, and great to chat with. The Entertainment Team deserves special recognition. Butterfly, Chicken Legs, Hot Coffee, J. Frozzono, and the rest brought nonstop energy—leading daytime activities, engaging with guests all day, and still dancing into the night, having a great time with smiles on their faces. Truly some of the hardest working people we’ve ever encountered. Activities The tennis facilities were great, and I especially enjoyed hitting with the pros, Marcos and Frankie. Both are talented players, and the hourly rate is very reasonable. Overall Despite a few minor quirks, we had a wonderful stay. Secrets Royal Beach delivers a beautiful beach, great food, excellent entertainment, and an exceptionally dedicated staff. We’d happily return and recommend it to anyone considering a visit.

Great beach but beware non smokers
Beautiful beach but disappointed that there isn't a designated smoking area as this ruined a lot of our beach time. Vendors on beach constantly roving and asking for purchases or services which is annoying. Great service by staff. Restaurants inconsistent, great steaks at most places but pretty bad seafood if that's what you like. Our butler Diego did an amazing job making sure we were able to get a great meal and had great suggestions for dining after some poor meals. He also got us another room after we had an issue with our current one. Charina was amazing and always so cheerful every morning at Olio, an absolutely wonderful hostess. Carolina at Bordeaux made our special meal lovely and Adrien our server was great. The flambe service for dessert was great! Bander at the preferred pool took great care of us too! Excellent service!

Bliss
I’m here now as I write this review. We stayed at Royal Secrets from Nov 29 to Dec 3. This is not my first all inclusive resort but our first DR trip. We got a preferred room with the hot tub on the deck. The room was great. Not musty or humid. Very large and cleaned daily sometimes twice a day. The food 9/10. I did not need to use seasoning at all. Breakfast was hit or miss. Resort its self is also beautiful. Infinity pool, lazy river, beach, huge pool what else could you need. My only negatives would be it seems people could smoke anywhere. I hate cigarette smoke and I have asthma so that was a little annoying. I also thought the pool area could have had a better vibe music wise. Other than that I would highly recommend. Our butler Super Brian was super sweet. We came for my birthday and on our last night he did rose petals, balloon on the bed, and a cake. He also checked in every day with us. We did the magic mystic Polaris excursion and also highly recommend that as well. Carlos was a great tour guide and the atmosphere and food were amazing. Great way to end 2025!

Terrible
Pathetic hotel, AC did not work even after changing rooms and asking repair guy to take a look, basis necessitates missing in refrigerator, no slippers, rip off store with ridiculous pricing gouging.
