Adults Only Resort
The Secrets is an adult only resort on the Gulf of Papagayo. It is part of Hyatt. A fairly typical all inclusive with multiple restaurants, bars, pools, etc. I would say the biggest difference is there is a lot of elevation on the property. Depending on where you stay, it's a healthy walk or most likely you will have to take the shuttle. While generally pretty fast response, it's a slight hassle. The beach is black sand. The cottage we stayed in was very nice though odd thing you have to really turn down the AC so you don't get wet floors from humidity. Service is great.

Honeymoon at Secrets Papagayo
My wife and I stayed at Secrets Papagayo for our honeymoon. Overall, there were some great things about it but the cons heavily outweighed the pros which ultimately led to an overall bad experience. Pros: - Great food and great options for food - Lots of options for included activities, entertainment, etc - Easy to use and helpful app - Transportation service to get around the property was great Cons: - The service from the staff was good for the most part. However, there was a very large number of rude / unfriendly staff and that’s what sticks out most - The walls of the rooms are paper thin. Noises from other guests, staff, animals, etc. were very clear and caused to constantly wake up throughout the night and early in the morning. Because of this we rarely got a good night of sleep - The alcohol options are terrible. Spirits are all the most bottom-shelf options available (Jose Cuervo, Bacardi, Jim Bean, Smirnoff, Absolut, etc.) Only 1 option for beer and just a few “house” wine options - The check-in process was not great. We were given an extremely brief introduction to the property, all inclusive explanation, how the app worked, etc. and we were left overwhelmed and confused. Additionally, we were checked into our room 45 minutes late and there was no communication to us regarding the readiness of our room. - There is not nearly enough lounge chairs around the pools compared to the number of guests there. The main pool would have all chairs “reserved” by 8 AM each day. The other pool would be a bit better but all of the good areas also all taken by 9 AM.

Bad experience
My experience was very unfortunate. I was excited because I like to speak to the locals in Spanish, to my surprise most women staff members were not friendly at all. Specially Elizabeth who’s usually at the Market Cafe, she was horrible and should NOT be in customer service! they looked at me up and down in a judgmental way, made me feel so unwelcome. I was dressed with normal beach clothes because it is a resort! but I was asked by Elizabeth to cover my cleavage to eat and in a very passive aggressive way I was dismissed several times when I asked for things. I never experienced this anywhere else, I wanted to go home ASAP! The unwelcome treatment ruined my experience. A few people were nice: Eloy at the Market Cafe, Liz at the gift shop, Jose from the seaside grill, Rafael from Himitsu, Alfonso from the bar.

Beautiful and Relaxing
We were visiting for our honeymoon and it was a perfect mix of relaxation, fun, and adventure. This is our first time going to Secrets and this is now our preferred resort from the other brands. It was the end of raining season and out of season for travel so it was not super crowded. The staff was super friendly especially the shuttle team. The process for checking in and out was easy. I definitely recommend this resort.

Rustic Luxury
This resort nails the perfect blend of rustic charm and luxury—think cute little villas with plush amenities nestled in lush jungle. The property is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views and serene vibes everywhere you turn. The staff? Incredibly warm and friendly, making us feel like family from day one. And the food—oh, the food! Fresh, flavorful dishes that left us raving. Already counting down to our next visit!
