Riu Mold Factory
I here for 14 days . My first room the ac didn't work . The next day they gave me a new room . Every day that I spent in the new room I was feeling more and more sick and os were the people I was talking to and we all said it was our ACs. So I had my ca cover removed and that's when I saw white and black mold caked in the vent. Also the 40% alcohol won't catch on fire in this resorted Holtel management acted hostile towards me when I tried to speak to them and blamed me for being hostile. The sunwing reps that are at the hotel dont want to loose their jobs and dont represent a Canadian

Not bad but doesn’t cater well for English guests
Pros- -Yuma! Yuma! Yuma! At the swim-up bar called Saona. He gets a special thank you as his customer service was excelente! Very hardworking and had a smile 24/7… he is a credit to RIU and was the reason we spent most of our time around this pool despite the music (more on that below). -the beach. We loved it but waves can be choppy if you’re not a strong swimmer. Wave bobbing was the highlight of our holiday and the water is warm and sand perfect. The hotel work hard at keeping their beach area clean. -water park is a nice addition to an all-adults hotel. -our room. Despite other guest complaints on Trip A our room was fine, spacious and had everything we needed including coffee machine and mini bar. -RIU app, this was helpful and you could order additional room supplies via the app. Every request we put in was picked up promptly. -lots of places to eat and drink -lots of parties -grounds of the hotel are immaculate and beautiful -the Ole restaurant had the best steak dish and was cooked to our liking but the staff in there were slow apart from one female who seemed to be prompting all the male staff to take notice of when glasses were empty or plates needed clearing. It must be a nightmare for her as the male staff appeared oblivious! -Edison/Kate Tui reps were helpful & knowledgeable -Mangu buffet restaurant was just right for us. Enough choices, not too busy and staff that you could get to know. The other bigger buffet restaurant was too big/busy for us. -the jerk chicken hut was tasty -WIFI, is the best I’ve experienced at a holiday hotel Cons- -the Republica doesn’t really cater well for English speaking guests. Most of the music was in Spanish which got a bit tiresome towards the end of 2 weeks and at times we felt 2nd class to Spanish speaking guests and for that reason we would not come back. -Saona swim-up bar music…they had one CD which is played on repeat. Despite complaining to guest services nothing was done and seemed to annoy most guests visiting the pool. -our cleaner was very pushy for tips often knocking on our door to ask if we liked her towel decoration. We were generous with tips but this seemed to make it worse and we were forced to sneak out of our room each morning to avoid her! -I expected most restaurants to be ala carte but they’re just buffet based on the theme of the restaurant -I did struggle with the temperature of most of the food but luckily didn’t fall ill but other guests did. Most of the food was overcooked, meats were well done to the point of being chewy and veg very mushy. But the salads and desserts were plentiful.

Horrendous
Hi, we are unfortunately very disappointed with the standard of Riu Republica notably the front desk Marially the supposed “manager”. Yesterday, when we got in our room there was a water leak and sand in our bed. We were then promised to get a room with pool view the next day (today). At noon, I went to the front desk to ask about the room change I was told to come at 3 pm. At 3:05 pm we went to the front desk and we were told our room is not available anymore as it was given to someone else. Apparently we were supposed to arrive at 2 pm. According to the “manager”. The manager was speaking Spanish with her colleagues saying that we are annoying her, and that we are liars. Unfortunately my partner speaks Spanish and could understand. I then explained again calmly the issues we faced and what we were promised as well as the first passage at noon to change the room and the information received to come at 3pm. She finally gave another room Saying there also is a pool View. Here it is:

Why all the negative reviews?
I don’t see how anyone has a problem with this resort. Great price. Staff is fantastic. Plenty of food, not all of it is great, but you can easily find something to eat. Rooms are good. Pools great, entertainment/music good. The only thing I wish for is that they’d mix up the music a bit at the party pool. All other pools play soft rock music which is fine if you’re into that all day but I found it to be boring. Party pool is where it’s at. Beach is nice too. I even lost my glasses in the ocean the first day and couldn’t see the rest of the week. Still had a great time.

Massive but well managed
Mostly good. Odd one or two minor things could be better. It’s a massive hotel but plenty of staff to cover everything.
