DO NOT STAY HERE! The worst experience of my life. Disaster of a hotel with Mold, structural damage, and staff that lies
To say this was the worst hotel experience of my life would be an understatement. There are so many great hotels in Punta Cana—save yourself the stress, discomfort, and food poisoning. The staff here lie, stating a resolution will happen just to get you away from the front desk, leaving upset guests for the next shift to deal with. The food was acceptable for a resort, but their "clean" facilities left 8 out of 12 members of my party with food poisoning by the time we left (we only ate at the resort and drank bottled or "filtered" water). I spent two miserable days in the bathroom. With the first two rooms we received having the ceiling plaster on the floor, and a moldy room that should be condemned. Of the 8 rooms our party booked, only 3 had working A/C after switching rooms multiple times as well, and in the rooms also had a limited number of functioning outlets. In three adjacent rooms (including mine), NO OUTLETS WORKED, forcing 4 people to share the one USB outlet that actually functioned. My Disaster Vacation Story: Check-in set the tone: long lines, confused staff, and nearly an hour just to assign rooms. The first rooms we received were disasters—one with plaster fallen from the ceiling and no A/C, another reeking of paint and mold, walls literally painted over without treatment. We returned to the desk, endured fake apologies, and were given new rooms. Still no A/C, breakers tripping, musty air. Round after round, the same story—every “solution” was another broken room. Eventually, staff admitted no more rooms were available but promised a technician. That technician never came. Over five days, my group saw one technician total, while staff recycled the same scripted excuses. One employee eventually admitted management knew about the widespread A/C failures but kept rooms occupied anyway. Meanwhile, the conditions worsened: sweltering heat, broken outlets, and food that left most of us sick. By the fourth night, one friend was so fed up he rebooked his flight to leave early. When I tried to leave without checking out—since others were still using the rooms—a staff member physically blocked me, shoved his hand against my chest, and threatened the taxi driver who agreed to take us. I was forced back inside to wait in line yet again. At checkout, staff asked why I hadn’t complained, even though we had reported issues repeatedly. None of our complaints had ever been documented. The mold, the broken A/C, the sickness—it was all ignored. The same staff member who harassed me stood nearby, smiling as I was forced to check out. This resort was a nightmare straight out of a movie—management knowingly ignored problems, staff lied, and guests suffered. What should have been paradise was four days of misery, sickness, and deception.

Birthday trip
I understand Riu Republica is a budget-friendly party hotel, but there are just some things I wish were better like the food. There are a few items on the menu that need revamping and worked on. The drinks and entertainment were great.

Nice Resort for the price
My wife and I had been to Riu Republica about six years ago, when it was still very new. It's still very nice; the grounds, the food, the new paint job and for the most part the room. The bathroom needs some TLC. Our toilet leaked all day and night, I had to finally wrap a plastic bag over the shower tap to prevent it from squirting water everywhere. Then it comes to the mouldy ceiling, no excuse for that. This room should have been shut down for two days and those things could have been dealt with. We were at the Riu for two weeks and placed several repair requests and nothing was done. The service was hit and miss, the ladies that cleaned our room, were always very nice and the Riu app worked great for ordering extra water or drinks. The bar tenders were OK, we found that tipping did not guarantied a smile or a nod. The pools were clean and refreshing, great job on that. The beach is beautiful and clean. This Riu is a "Party Resort "and it doesn't take too many drunk party-ers to wake you up at 2 or 3 AM. We found a quieter pool, bar and beach at the other side of the resort so we were able to get away from the Night Club music. At the end of the day we have no regrets about going back and we got good value for our money.

Recommend!!
The only complaint they do not have enough of people clean pool areas through out the day. Also they do not clean the tables and chair (bird mess) at the buffet enough to control the birds flying around while you are eating
