    JOIA Rose Hall - Good Resort

    We’re departing today from JOIA Rose Hall feeling good about our vacation over the last week. Here’s a brief review: Staff: 5/5 - on the most part everybody (guest services, housekeeping, culinary, gym, entertainment, grounds keeping) were friendly and engaging. The Butler experience is more of a concierge service. They checked in daily and if we needed anything we asked. Food & Bev: 5/5 - delicious and fresh, from buffet to a la carte. Grounds and pools: 5/5 - well kept and clean. Building & Rooms: 3/5 - Clean and somewhat dated. The carpets outside the rooms need to be replaced with tile (like Waves). The smell and stains are pungent and unpleasant. Entertainment: 5/5 - from the poolside activities to the nightly entertainment. All good.

    Hit or miss

    In total there were more positives than negatives during our stay however after staying in Jamaica 4 times and booking Joia for the first time I was disappointed. After reading the reviews I decided to try a new resort this time around and I do not believe I will be coming back. The reviews on the food is the main reason I booked this resort but the food was truly hit or miss. Depending on the day, the chef or the restaurant we either enjoyed our meal or felt the food was not fresh and found ourselves looking for more options around the resort. The service was also hit or miss. The dinner service, bartending service and was always great however the lunch service was especially poor. We got one server multiple days in a row who would not take our drink orders until asked and delivered us a very nasty attitude (similar to how she spoke to her colleagues). This put a damper on the lunch service for us. The rooms were clean and the room service and cleaning service was excellent. The beach was beautiful and there were plenty of chairs both on the beach and by the pools. Many guests smoked during our stay so you will be smelling smoke while staying in the common areas. In general it is a beautiful resort however due to the attitudes of some of the employees and hit or miss meal options I do not believe we will be returning.

    Proposal at JOIA Rose Hall by Iberostar

    SueYen and Aliyah went above and beyond to make my proposal to my girlfriend perfect! So thankful for them and all the work they put in to make everything amazing. On top of that the food was incredible. 10/10 experience!!!

    Amazing and excellent

    I had a wonderful trip to the Joia rose hall & plan to return within the next 12 months. I was able to propose to my now fiancé & they made it the most unforgettable experience. Sue yen put everything together for me and also had the help of Rushane whom guided us down and helped through the entire trip. They both were exceptional help and even beyond that they were just wonderful to speak with. In fact the entire staff were just so kind and catering and really seemed to care for the guest experience. Thank you again for the best trip Iv had in many years.

    Our anniversary stay

    My wife and I stayed at the resort the week of August 10 for our wedding anniversary. The resort has its excellent points but there are a number of things that keep it from being 4 or 5 star rated... The GOOD - the butlers are excellent and well trained under the leadership of Tenile. He and his team exceed expectations. Make sure you compensate him well. He will be sought after by your competitors. He worked really hard to take care of a plumbing/ sewage problem that existed. Unfortunately the smell came back at the end of the week which indicates a foundational problem. Star Prestige - The Star Prestige is the only way to go - it is the only romantic place on this resort. The service from the team, and above all Shellisa, was outstanding and over the top. The beverages were top notch and we were pampered all day, fed pre lunch meals by the Chef, and taken care of sun up to sun down by the team. The team that worked all the bars were very good and accommodating and would make any drink you wanted. Grounds - The grounds were beautiful and the flowers were fragrant and well maintained. Most of the grounds staff were hospitable and greeted us warmly. Room - Outside of the sewer smell the oceanfront room was nice and comfortable, the bed was comfortable and the swinging chair on the balcony was a nice touch. Room service was solid and responded whenever we need something. Guest services called several times to check on us and responded to our requests. Nice touch... The BAD - the resort, although it looks good on the surface, is in need of a renovation. There is a dampness throughout the hallways and a lingering musty smell that you can tell they try to treat and eliminate. But it does not work. In addition, the sewer system needs a complete check as that backup smell we experienced may be a bigger problem. Lack of Ambiance - The resort was very loud a number of times during our stay. I know it is an adults only resort but it is more of a party atmosphere instead a romantic setting. good thing we upgraded to star prestige to receive the romantic feel we were looking for. Food - The food was a big hit and miss all week. The burgers at the grill were excellent but many dishes at lunch buffet lacked flavor. Steaks at dinner were either over or under cooked and the pasta at the Italian restaurant was so heavy you could only eat a few bites. Breakfast - Breakfast was extremely disappointing. We stayed at the Bavaro two years ago and the Ritz in Cayman last year and both breakfast buffets were outstanding. This was however left a lot to be desired. The omelets and pancake and smoothies were great but the ham and turkey at the carving station were dried out and never attended to. The mimosa station was somewhat unattended and we had to wait several times for juices and champagne. The juice station, as well as a number of the dishes during breakfast, were not labeled so you had to find someone and ask what certain things were. The staff at breakfast seemed largely unhappy but there were a few bright spots like Etienne. If I had to say, Bavaro at the Dominican Republic was a step above this resort but a step below the Ritz Cayman. This resort has serious potential for 5 stars but needs to decide if it is a romantic resort for couples or a party resort for aging boomers and millennials.
