Haven Riviera was a treat of a retreat!
Had an amazing time at Haven Riviera Cancun. The service from Guillermo, and the chef (L?) and waiters at the Tepanyaki were attentive, funny and the food delish!! Guillermo’s Watermelon Long Island was the best drink of the week! We loved Anahi at the Spa and the $59.00 one hour experience was worth every penny - she took us personally through a journey of the senses, I don’t want to ruin the surprise but from the Aloe Ice in the steam room, the reluctant cold plunge to the unexpected neck massage it was a nice way to end our trip (we did this the last day) The service was fabulous, the swim out room - worth it! The buffet was really good with the best steak street tacos anywhere. The poolside bbq each day was a fun way to eat lunch and the beach sand white and soft.

Happily Land-Locked in a High-End All-inclusive, Solo and Completely e-Unconnected
This was my first experience staying anywhere in Mexico, and was meant to be with my well-travelled sister. She was unable to accompany me due to family emergency so I came solo and unconnected digitally — no phone, nada. Also, I had a low-level ear infection that kept me out of the pools most of my stay. Gaby, my butler, dealt admirably with my situation, considering how absolutely everything is geared to having a phone. She made a point of finding me:), meeting with me, or using the room phone, and she photocopied daily activity lists so that I would have things to participate in. And she took time to simply chat with me. She’s a kind and competent person. Other special people for enriching my experience were Mar, Hanny, Cyndy, and Pepe, who I’d met at Cooking, Stretching and Spanish Lessons classes. Mar, whom I consider to be a friend, went out of her way to arrange with Ponciano, my taxi driver into Cancun for a couple of hours, to be my guide and to help me find a barato reloj at a Mexican price, not a zona hotel price. He was so kind and really did look after me, using his phone to translate with and showing me mercado 23 and, of course getting me to a shop for my watch purchase. Arno, with Aguaworld, under the VoraMar patio, gave me my katamaran and dip in the Caribbean ocean experience after I’d had my kayak paddling back and forth in the allowed area just off the beach. I really enjoyed our visiting chat while out on the katamaran breezing along under light cloud. Then, the charming waiters at my tables by the window in Flavours. Sandra, Wilberthe, Juan Carlo, Gala, and others. I am so impressed with the quality and range of the foods at that buffet and the hours that they manage to keep up that quality and range! I did go to three reservations, at Agua Bendita, Olios, and VoraMar, and was well-treated, enjoying my dinners (with the exception of the terrible house wines which I’ve already noted in a survey taken within my second? full day at Haven whilst seated for an evening supper at Flavours). But as a solo I felt best able to satisfy my varying times of eating and wandering at Flavours and Vista. I have to say, the food at Haven through those two places made me very happy, fresh seafood, so many ceviches and fresh cut fruits and quacamole and delicious dairy and — lattes with pan dulce and butter. Heaven! Food was a highlight of my time at Haven. Unfortunately at my 2nd mid-afternoon meal at Vistas, instead of the passion fruit drink I was looking forward to from the day before, I was served a glassful of what I suspect was habanero juice straight. And without knowing this I took a happy gulp of…. And felt I’d been poisoned. My waiter brought me two glasses of milk when I asked for them, the second with ice in it because he’d taken a spoonful of my drink after taking it away and he was both horrified and also with a burning throat. I would have liked to have had at least an apology for the mistake from whoever had made it and also to know how it had happened so that it could not happen again to anyone else. My sister and I had been looking forward to experiencing The Day of the Dead at Haven and I was really pleased to go to the competition at the Convention Centre between staff groups. They put on an amazing and dramatic show using recycled materials, each group representing a country in their costume-making. Two other shows that I enjoyed that week were the Burlesque, and the Michael Jackson impresario from Gary, Indiana! Housekeeping staff were very good about leaving me to my desired privacy with the help of the red light no entry to my room. I let them in every three days or so of my two week stay and otherwise would ask them in the passageways for towels or whatever I was running out of and they were always generous and accommodating of my eccentricity. My room was an adjoining room. Spacious with an ocean view and a balcony. I moved the little table over to the window so that I could gaze out at the gorgeous view and write. The first three days or so were serene (pun intended). After which I was regaled with the adjoining room occupants’ activities of which I could hear to the most intimate detail. Three different sets of occupants, the third leaving the day before I did. I spoke to Gaby about this and she did explain that queen beds were at a minimum in this resort and that they had been included in design as family adjoined rooms. Since my disabled sister and I had requested separate beds, this was how we were accommodated. Unfortunately the sound-proofing between and within the adjoining room walls was almost non-existent. While I found it entertaining for the most part, I’m fairly certain that my sister would not have done so. Also, at night I suffered from the light show put on by the mad flickering off and on for extended periods by both the air conditioning control and the , I assume, green fire detection device over and beside my bed which I’d moved to to be as far away from the adjoining doors as possible. The TV contributed a continuing red glare. I pulled the plug on the desk lamp since the residual LED glow when turned off lit up the room in a ghostly fashion! Without a phone and QR code App I was not really able to use room service, not that it really mattered. We had a language problem on my arrival night, exhausted, after which I did not bother with room service. My last few days at Haven were enriched by spending about seven hours overall in Mocacinos, copying one of the paintings into my writing book as an exercise in concentration. While doing so, I could people-listen and enjoy the interactions of the staff with the guests and each other. It was a joy to do.

Birthday getaway
Quick trip to celebrate birthdays. Surf and turf dinner at Agua Bendita with Jorge Cruz was excellent! Great service and super accommodating of my food allergies! Buffet was good, so was Asian fusion restaurant. Long stretch of beach to walk on, only wished they cleaned up the seaweed more throughout the day. Loved our swim out room, even had a booth speaker system in bathroom ceiling I could connect my phone to. Good music at main pool. Lobby bar was the best. One night (11/14), entertainment/female singer in lobby was really good, playing lots of rock/pop favorites, can’t remember her name though. Sorry! Wish there was some more activities at night though. Only one ping pong table and one tiny dart board. Would have benefited from more yard games, late night snacks, etc. would definitely go back.

Fine for a week’s winter break
Well laid out resort, if a little tired. Good to have a ‘party pool’ and quiet pool area. Loved that the ‘all inclusive’ bracelets were also the room keys - genius Food was average. Lovely omelet station at breakfast … but often had to wait in a long queue. Limited choice of restaurants for lunch unless you were a ‘Serenity’ guest… but more about that later… The special restaurants were ok but not really special - main courses in the Asian and Mexican Steak restaurants were good but the rest of the meal poor; the Mediterranean restaurant was good, with swift, efficient service. the Italian which we had booked for my husband’s birthday, was, unfortunately, terrible - the worst Italian meal I’ve ever had. Cocktails were really good, unfortunately the red wine ‘choice’ on all-inclusive was Cabernet Sauvignon (awful) or Merlot (worse than awful - lots on tanins). Some may argue it was to force guests to the extensive and pricey wine list… we just didn’t bother. Mini bar in room was ok but only beer or soft drinks. Also, I had specified when booking that we could only drink sugar free soft drinks - not a difficult request - but it never happened, even when we left a note out along other the cans of Sprite and Coke… we still only got our 2 cans of Diet Coke. Staff were good, some excellent. Didn’t like the fact that the Vista restaurant which was for Serenity Club guests only overlooked the quiet pool area - from above… a little hierarchical for my liking. Lots of spaces and options for Serenity Club guests… I can understand resorts requiring a variety of room options, but don’t believe there should be whole spaces for those who have paid extra. Building works being carried out adjacent to building 2/3. They only have a Sunday off and start around 7:30 am on all other days - be aware!

Great adults only resort
We enjoyed our visit very much at Haven. The place had excellent views, great rooms and was located very close to the airport. The service throughout the whole resort was excellent. We were in the Romance swim out rooms which were located right next to the quiet main pool & bar. Ricardo the bartender was very friendly and made sure to check with us every day to see if we needed anything. His service was great and he made the visit even more enjoyable. I would gladly come back to have a similar experience.
