Would I go back? If the rates are lower than other similar places yes. If not I would try some other place.
I just stayed for the weekend at this hotel which is very big so it doesn’t feel crowded, the f&b is quite impressive for an all inclusive. The wine list is perfect, the kampai restaurant is great (shout out to Raul for being the best waiter in all the resort), the pizza at la cabaña is delicious (shout out to Yesi the hostess she is so kind) and La isla our favorite restaurant with the best service and Francisco (I hope I remember the name correctly but he is the guy in charge) being a great example for his team, the service there is spotless. The alcohol brands included are really good except they ran out of them easily. However all this effort in the food and beverage department gets overshadowed by the TERRIBLE service at reception and transportation areas. At check in we got zero indications on How the resort works, nobody explained about the app, nothing! We had to figure out that on our own. The guy suddenly disappeared through a door and came 10 minutes later just to say your room isn’t ready come back later. Same thing at check out, it takes them AGES to check you out and when I requested my invoice they told me if I had asked it at check in, which I did and the guy told me you have to ask at check out… so they have no processes on how to do that. The worst part are the internal transportation golf carts… as I mentioned the property is big and you have to walk across other properties for certain restaurants… well the carts are always busy moving people from weddings or check ins so they are not available for regular guests and a couple times that we were waiting at the stations and an empty car passed we would have to yell at them to stop and they will just yell back saying we are not going that way… they didn’t even know which way we were going. On other occasion we were on the property next tot he hotel (generation) which is a 20 minutes walk at least and no carts whatsoever we finally were able to stop one (because we walked to the back path which is only for employees) and he asked very aboyed where we going , we said reception and he is like no im not going there… we asked were was he going and he said to el dorado which is exactly were we were going, and he started Telling us quite anoyed that we have to explain ourselves better because there were other lobbys… I replied to him sorry for not lnowing that we do not work them… at the end he took us back to el dorado but as you can imagine it was not a comfortable ride. I don’t know if people that drive the carts are are not well fed or rested but you can tell they are not happy. Would I go back? Yes if the rate is lower than other similar hotels… for the same price I would stay somewhere else

Used to Be Amazing… Now More Retirement Home Vibes (But Hugo is a Star!)
Used to Be Amazing… Now More Retirement Home Vibes (But Hugo is a Star!) I’ve been coming to this resort in Cancun for years, and it used to be my go-to getaway. The beach is still beautiful, the facilities are well-maintained, and the food is decent—but something’s changed, and not necessarily for the better. The energy here has definitely mellowed out, and not in a relaxing spa-retreat kind of way. It now feels more like a retirement community than the lively, fun-in-the-sun resort it used to be. Activities have been scaled back, the music is low-key (and not in a good way), and the once vibrant social scene has fizzled. If you're looking for a quiet spot to read by the pool or go to bed by 9pm, this might be your place now. That said, the real MVPs of the resort are the recreation staff, especially Hugo. This guy brings such genuine energy and warmth—it’s like he’s single-handedly trying to keep the spirit of the old resort alive. He’s engaging, fun, and always goes the extra mile to get people involved. If the rest of the staff matched his enthusiasm, this place might still have that magic spark. Overall: still a solid resort in terms of basics, but if you’re under 60 or looking for a bit more life, you might want to look elsewhere… unless Hugo’s running the show that day! Want to tailor it more to a specific resort name or travel site (like TripAdvisor or Google Reviews)?

This place has gone downhill fast
Just left after spending a week here. This was our 3rd visit at this resort and boy have things gone downhill. The people running this resort have managed to turn a nice resort into a dumpster fire. The resort is literally falling apart. It looks like no maintenance or upkeeping is being done at all. Pools are dirty and water isn’t being maintained at proper Ph levels. We had a strip with us (we have a pool home) and oh boy…we stopped getting in the pool after that. Are there any health inspections in Mexico? The staff is hit or miss. The casitas bartenders are good. The rest of the staff is mostly useless. Bartenders are too busy playing on their phones to serve customers. Drinks have zero consistency and are undrinkable 50% of the time. The activities staff is terrible. Too busy flirting with each other and playing on their phones to show up on time to activities and at times even skip them all together. Is there anyone supervising the activities staff? They’re absolutely terrible. The resort didn’t seem very busy and we still had a hard time getting reservations at restaurants. One of the staff members said they cut down on staff numbers to save money…which makes sense. Final thoughts: There’s no reason to ever visit El Dorado Royale again. Not when there’s much better resorts out there such as Secrets, Breathless, and many others who actually seek to care about the customer experience and the product they have.

DO NOT GO HERE - insulting, unpleasant, mediocre facilities - not worth your hard earned moneiu
A staggeringly insulting indifference on the part of the staff who hates your very presence Am- there is one philosophy here - collect an absurd amount of money , at which point clearly demonstrate your nasty disdain for every unfortunate soul who bought their decoeptive bill of goods. This is called minimum effort. No one cares if it’s memorable , relaxing, or anything of the sort. They care that you pay and you shut up. Whoever is the corporate owner should pay attention: every person I met said they felt constant disrespect and an ice cold genuinely nasty disposition. This places beautiful grounds can not make up for the disdain you feel at every turn. When you ask 5 times for the blackout drafters to be fixed (which have also not been dusted in years) and over two days no one can be bothered. You’ll leave not refreshed - you will leave feeling like a sucker who has been had. Having traveled the world - this hands down the most insulting, unworthy experience I’ve ever had. Whomever the cooperate patent is, should listen: approached by random people throughout - every single one said they would never come back. Why? It is so easy to be decent, .kind, but here there is disdain for the people paying to come. There are a million places near where you will not only have a beautiful experience but exchange life stories with the wonderful staff’s chefs and managers. Don’t go here. It’s appalling and inexcusable

Awesome resort. Will return
My review would mirror the one cwarrow from Milwaukee put in April 16th. The staff were great everywhere you went. Food was good. Plenty of options on where to eat. So many pool options and almost all had a swim up bar. Our room was 1407. Great location. A small pool with bar a 20 sec walk behind our room. Great options for alcohol. We enjoyed walking everywhere because it's so beautiful. Grounds crew do an amazing job. I'm definitely going back.
- AdvisoryImportant Note: Although the hotel offers over a mile of sandy white beach, some of the area is not swimmable due to protected coral. There is a swimmable area and also a unique natural saltwater pool on property.
