    Fun entertainment crew!

My wife and I had a great vacation! My wife likes reading on the beach, but I enjoyed all the games and entertainment crew! Paulina was my favorite, but Jaidyd, Eddie, and Diego were also great. I did agua gym everyday along with some of the dancing and games. We always went to the evening entertainment and had a blast! Monica was also out favourite server during the vacation!

    Good experience overall!

We stayed at this resort with a group of nine for a week with the Privilege option. Checked in late in the evening and it went smoothly and everyone was happy with their room assignments. One couple had room service which was not that great, Note that all rooms have garden views so no ocean view rooms available as the resort is long and narrow down to the beach. The website for the resort lists all the restaurants and the online reservation system worked very well. Food was pretty average compared to the many other resorts of this size that we have stayed in. Italian, Asian, International. We didn't try the Mexican. The Beloved restaurant for Privilege members was OK but the menu is fixed. A nice option if you don't want to bother with a reservation and it's location is awesome by the water. Some bugs out in the evening, so bring bug spray. The buffet and is open for breakfast and lunch. Sorrento for late afternoon snacks. Sunday night at the buffet for Mexican dinner which was good as well. We really miss the buffet option every night but many of the resorts have not brought this back after COVID. Rooms were very clean and the beds comfortable. Beach towels were exchanged every evening with turndown service which was nice. Fridge stayed stocked. The only thing we missed was having the sun shine in the rooms. As you are essentially in the jungle, not much light gets in. It was nice to sit out on the deck though. Now a shout out to some staff members. All the employees we encountered were very friendly and helpful from the front desk to the beach. In the buffet - Quetzobeth, Angeles, Yolanda, Merebel, Juan, Victor, Sandy and Alfredo. Also Luis and Rosa in Sorrento. All work very hard and some even remembered our names which was great. A great team for sure. As for the Privilege option, not sure if it is really worth it. The prime beach beds and rooms are taken by the owners so not much benefit other than access to Beloved and 10% off very expensive spa treatments. (There are massages available on the beach at the next resort - $75 US for 1 hour, but music is loud from the resort. Not ideal). Beach was awesome and swimming and snorkeling were great as well. As for tipping, the website says it's included but we still tipped after eating ($2-$10), ordering drinks ($ 2) and for the room cleaners ($5/day). Many folks did not tip though. Overall a great trip with family. We even went across the street to the Minotauro cenote. $25 US each. Worth a visit to support a local business.

    A Relaxing Enjoyable Holiday

This resort has everything we look for in a beach vacation. This is why it is our fifth visit to Catalonia Royal Tulum. It is very clean, staff are helpful, friendly and welcoming. The food is tasty and the beach and ocean are great. Check-in was quick and we were placed on the 3rd floor. The check-in person asked (we are in our late 60s) would we prefer a lower floor? My husband said, no we were fine with it. The room was clean (we had a premium room) and the bed was comfortable. The fridge was stocked with soft drinks, beer and snacks. They do a turn down service in the evening, too. The buffet staff (breakfast and lunch) were excellent. Shout out to Quetzabela, Angales, Tanner, Juan, and Alfredo. I didn’t get everyone’s name who served us - Quetzabela recognized me right away the first morning, as we were walking to the beach to get chairs. It was 2 years since our last visit. Monica served us both at the beach and in the lobby throughout our visit. Her friendly smile was a warm welcome. At the restaurants these following names served us and were excellent: Alex (Steakville), David (Mamma Mia’s), David (Adelina Mexican), and Luis (Sorrentos). Thank you to them and the other staff in each and every facet of the resort. We will come back again.

    would not go again

visited Catalonia in Tulum recently and there are some things that need to be talked about. i want to make it clear that all of the workers are very nice - we especially loved Diego (pool entertainment crew). with that being said - there’s no sense of urgency at this resort. first time - we called for room service and nobody showed up (ordered food) after an hour, we canceled it. second time - we called because our shower wasn’t draining the water so it felt like you were in a pool. we had to call 3-4 times before they actually sent somebody. third time - we called from another room because the battery on our room door died so our bracelets weren’t working and we couldn’t get into our room. we again had to call multiple times before someone showed up. fourth time - we called for room service again and after our food didn’t show up (an hour later) we had to call again. fifth time - we called to have someone come pick up the food because they don’t leave you covers or a tray to place plates in. they never showed up, at all! we handed plates to one of the workers we randomly saw outside of the rooms. the resort itself is beautiful especially the pool and beach areas but it was dead - not many people which was shocking. there’s little to no entertainment around the pool area and the music was terrible. been to plenty of resorts that have guests participating in some type of activity throughout the day - not just at the beach but by the pool. excursions were way too expensive especially for a resort that didn’t have many people. they call you early in the morning to pick up “souvenirs” but it’s just coupons to the spa that they charge way too much for and those coupons won’t make much of a difference. the food is ok - literally just ok. what they have on the menus on their site is not what they actually have at the restaurant. i hope they can figure some things out because again, the resort is a beautiful one.
