  Fun place

  Friendly staff, specially Leonel y Carlos at the main pool. The only negative I have is that the room is very outdated and the AC was not working properly.

  Beach sellers make beach stay hell.

  Writing this while we are still here. Despite a double celebration, my birthday came and went without any difference. Tui were notified before we left UK too, but if my birthday was anything to go by, I expect our anniversary to be the same. We paid for privileged upgrade upon booking, but disappointed no room upgrade for the double celebration as mentioned. Food, we'd give a 7/10 as some poor meals like a fatty steak, lean to no meat ribs etc and the most annoying aspect, our main course arriving before we have even finished our starters! This has happened several times at several different restaurants. Room is tired and dated, with a shower screen put up wrong way round.... however, it's clean and mostly fab staff do what they can. Some staff seem fed up though, and service with drinks can be hit and miss. Might remember water first time, then none the rest of the meal. Beach is NOT private. Sellers hound you every 5 minutes, walk up between beds even if you're way off the front, and try to sell to you. This should be banned. The privilege beds though are on the side where all the sellers congregate next to the non motorised water sports and shout and generally make such a nuisance that it's ruining our holiday. We have complained to reception, and I've even asked nicely to the sellers to keep the noise down and sadly have even resorted to shout to them to shut up. Due to this, we would NOT come back to this hotel. To the manager, would love your feedback and resolution for us and your future guests.

  Terrible !!!!!

  This hotel did not give us a great or 5 star experience at all !! Greeted by polite and charming concierge, whom very quickly informed of treating us to a "very special lunch to offer some great services"at the Pearl hotel the next day. What a waste of our very first afternoon !! Tring to cajole and pressure you into becoming members to only give certain perks which arent even that great !! Next ...half the staff are miserable, not friendly, such a chore to get you a drink when busy chatting to their colleagues. We actually had a bar waitress slam our drinks down. Rude !! Paid more attention to big groups of Americans so can get the tips. I thinknstaff could benefit from some customer service training. Our room ...toilet leaking, shower pathetic, air con not working correctly, also cockroach found in room !! We were moved and upgraded. Piano bar is not "a piano" bar ..some entertainment in there and staff watching youtube videos of their choice, not a relaxing tranquil bar. On visting the Tao Cat half way through meal, which was inappropriate, a waiter badgered us to give him a good review on trip advisor which did but then inattentive with his service. When informing restaurants of a food intolerance my partner has,completely ignored several times, even though we told them in Spanish. And although we are vigilant of this, staff were not and inevitably he was very ill for 2 whole days !! Staff need training on this and waiters/waitresses when told a food intolerance/allergy need to talk to chefs in the kitchen not just assume. Went on 2 trips to Saona and Catalina island , particularly Saona rammed with so many people poorly disorganised and waiting on bus in a gas station forever !! Then told we "have" to buy local merchandise. On island for 2hrs only and herded like sheep, to top it off as "part of the tour" you are made to go in a gift shop to try and get more of your money, when everyone is tired and just wants to get back to their hotel. We hired a car for 5 days to explore on our own and did find some great places, however roads atrocious, and a dirty littered island. In our room we did put our valuables in a safe, however there were some days we had left money in the room in wallet ( a substantial amount), purse, which was stolen and credit card details had been used. Partner fuming went to hotel manager, security. They listened and offered if wanted to involve police but as couldnt prove who it could be and we left out of safe,didnt pursue but you dont expect hotel staff whom ever they might be, to steal. But we sure learnt our lesson !!! Disgusting !! Hotel did in no way try and compensate with anything !! Good choice of food/restaurants. Best food was actually down at the beach. Everyone has different experiences of places, hotels etc we happened to not have a particularly good experience. I would NOT recommend this hotel or in fact Dominican Republic. Safe to say we will not be returning !!

  Dinner at Catalonia Royal Bavaro

  BeLoved restaurant was very good. Steak and fish was amazing. Antonio was fantastic. Had lunch there as well. Everything was fresh.
