Oct 28, 2025The good, the bad, and the ugly
We just spent eight days and seven nights at the Barcelo Maya adults only resort. There is a lot to say about this hotel. The good the bad and the ugly so here goes: Good: The staff was genuinely nice, it was clean, the pools were warm, the sun was shining, and the drinks were flowing The sun sets from the garden view rooms were magnificent! There was a lot of seating by the pool which included hammocks. They offered free transportation shuttle services to each of the sister hotels and you could enjoy all the facilities and amenities at each of the resorts. Bad: Room service is not included, it was not top shelf liquor, no canned / battle beer available, it catered the spanish-speaking guests (ie all pool music in soanish, all TV channels in Spanish), at check in very little information was provided that was integral to our stay for example you have to make reservations for dinner, there is very limited options to evening dining without a reservation IE there is no buffet or room service) Ugly: The front facade collapsed while we were there (It was said they were doing maintenance in the collapse happened after the maintenance workers left). Staff did not allow for us to take pictures and we were diverted to the convention center for pickups and transportation. Two of the six people in our party got travelers diarrhea which we've been to Mexico before and this is never happened prior. To sum up this review, was it a bad resort no. Was it a luxury resort, no. Sunny warm weather with free drinks woot woot I guess the moral of the story is you get what you pay for and this was extremely reasonable. I would even say cheap for a week's stay.

Carlos Lopez Music bar 10/10 bartender. Great service :) Very friendly. Make sure you see him when you visit the Barcelo Resorts :)

Great shots.
Great experience , great bartending service from Adrian and landero . The bartenders made us feel welcome and the pool already was the perfect area for relaxing with a drink in one hand .
