Great resort if you want to relax

The resort has one of the best ‘relaxed’ areas of beach along the Sea of Cortez, for an area filled with resorts. You will find that the beach is swimmable even though other reviews would say otherwise. You will not have a lifeguard, but the surf and waves make it authentic. We saw stingrays jumping off shore and bird life present. The staff are very welcoming, always hoping you are pleased with your stay, meal, spot on the beach, quality, etc. Although the premium service seems a little high for the price, we really enjoyed both the ability make our own drinks in the exclusive lounge, the service at the poolside bar, and our amazing view from the 5th floor. We loved the quality of information given to us by Luis in the Oremium checkin lounge, and would also argue that a $3 local bus ride to Cabo San Lucas is way worth the experience rather than the normal $40-$50 for a cab. The local town (San Jose del Cabo) is actually better than Cabo San Lucas if you are looking for art, authentic Mexican small town feel; as Cabo San Lucas is a tourist trap and drunk fest. Our rooms were always kept clean (tipping goes a long way), and our rainfall shower and tub in the room still allowed us views from our balcony window. We are two foodies, and the food here was impeccable. We did prefer the buffets over the restaurant (for the one vegan we have), but the pescatarian (veggie plus fish) raves that some of the best seafood is served at this resort. The beach is a little rough to walk on, but it also needs to withstand a hurricane winds, so be prepared to walk the beach on an angle (its natural not powder. Lastly, we were offered wristbands with electric key tabs, meaning no room keys to carry! This is only in the premium, but it was an amazing plus! Of all the extra a la carte restaurants, we recommend the Mexican one.

Great resort if you want to relax

Wonderful

The room was spacious and very clean. I don't think we received the room we paid for, but we were fine with the room because it was in a corner and very quiet, so we didn't even mention it. We were club premium but were only able to get into a specialty restaurant 2 nights; which worked out well because the buffet had a huge variety of foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food and drinks were very good. The staff was outstanding; extremely friendly and ready to help. The gentleman in the premium club room was outstanding. Every staff member made sure we had what we wanted. We were extremely pleased with our experience and next time we go to Mexico we will certainly stay at Barceló Gran Fara.

Restaurants and Horseback Riding

My rating above on service references all staff, except the restaurant managers and hosts. The restaurants do not/ or get very irritated when asked to accommodate groups larger than 4 who want to sit together. They actually separated our family at Thanksgiving!!!! . Bad, Bad, Bad considering we chose this destination to “hello” celebrate Thanksgiving. They would not put tables together even in the same section with the SAME waiter???? Throughout our stay the Restaurant Managers & hosts had bad attitudes and were not kind to the lovely waitstaff... super grumpy. Not fun to deal with on a nightly basis! Note: if you want a FANTASTIC HORSEBACK RIDING EXPERIENCE have the tour staff in the lobby book you with Eric at BONANZA HORSEBACK RIDING... Soooo much fun!!! & Super close to the property. Bonanza is a lovely little ranch/farm where the well fed and lovingly attended animals are keeps in cozy, shaded paddocks and stalls. Refreshing beverages are offered and don’t forget to meet Pirate the dog! He’s adorable. You won’t be disappointed at BHR!! Bring the kids for a pony ride on the mini pony or just visit the goats, burrow, chickens etc !

Awesome!

This was our 2nd trip to Barceló Gran Faro, and it was just as awesome as the first time! We brought friends with us this time and they loved it too! The service is by far the best we've had at any other resort. The food is well prepared and the selections are great. Trust me, you never go hungry or thirsty here. Plenty of fun in the sun, and the evenings have events also. We will be back again!

What's to Love

It's all-inclusive, all-fam-bam-friendly and all-Caboliscious.

Private balconies that have spectacular views of the dreamy blue Sea of Cortez.

The Deep Blue Spa. Hydrotherapy and marine-based treatments. Meltaliscious.

The signature cocktail menu - it's creative and crafty and we love it.

From the front desk to the bartenders, the customer service is sunsational.

What We'd Change

There's not a lot of seating at the beach, but the sand is so powdery and the water so crystalline blue, furniture would probably just get in the way.

Why You Should Go

It's just a zippy 15 minutes from the airport. Cocktail time is so near you can taste it.

Kids' Club ages 4-11 has puppet theater, videogames & more. Your munchkins will love it.

The snack bar serves up delish snacks all day long. Lotsa good grazing.

There are wave runners for splash-worthy fun & a fitness center for calorie-burning.

You can tee off at three swingin' golf courses that aren't too far away.
