  Fun in the sun but beware of Palladium Travel Club pitch and scuba at Aquaworld

  TRS Coral provided my wife and me with a pleasant five-day six-night break with good sun and relaxation. We wanted a quiet sunny junior beachside swim-up and I learned ahead of time that the even-numbered rooms in Building 1 deliver just that—esp. #1034-1040. I reserved #1038 ahead of time through the online e-butler service but was assigned instead a dark odd-numbered room in Building 2 which I renegotiated at reception. Building 1 butlers Jose and Christofer were excellent and very resourceful. The staff at the pool were gracious and kept the drinks flowing—esp. Carlos, who was wonderful. Less good were two things that cost us a full day of fun and sun. First, TRS staff talked us into a breakfast presentation for the Palladium Travel Club that turned out to be deceptive and manipulative. We talked to two representatives for what turned into several hours before a manager finally informed us of the scale of the buy-in needed, despite our frequent initial questions. In the meantime, PTC reps repeatedly offered us drinks including tequila shots (which we refused)—something that in retrospect seems highly unprofessional. Once the manager began his hard-sell, we were shocked about how much information had not been shared with us from the start. We are not against the idea of investing in a travel club, but this was manipulative. And even the manager could not/would not give us a brochure or prospectus that would outline the PTC deal in print. Needless-to-say, even after he offered us additional enticements (25% off if we signed within the hour; a free vacation if we signed within 48 hours, etc.), we did not feel we had the information to seriously consider this opportunity. This experience left us irritated that we had been tricked into sacrificing an entire beautiful morning on the beach for such an amateur pitch. We recommended to the TRS management that PTC rethink its business model, authorize its sales people to talk honestly about the actual deal within the first 20 minutes and provide everyone a written prospectus upon request. If PTC is offering a serious resort vacation program, it should be prepared to market itself as a serious investment option. A day later, TRS referred us to World2Meet for off-campus activities, where Mirna reserved for us a day of scuba lessons at Aquaworld. (We’re big swimmers but not certified.) Mirna failed to tell me during her sales pitch that Aquaworld will not allow people to participate in their scuba program if they have anything from a simple cold or diabetes or (like my spouse) permanent hearing loss. Nor was any information available on W2M’s site or the Aquaworld site. This meant that we wasted a half day in Cancun traffic getting there, only to be rejected from the lessons and then to slog back to TRS Coral. Aquaworld’s reps were rude and unapologetic; W2M refunded our money, but did not the transport ($114) or the half day at the beach.   Fernando Speedy Gonzalez is the Best!

  Fernando was the best server we had at Grand Palladium. He was very swift with our drinks orders and found us a day bed when we couldn’t see any available. We honestly couldn’t ask for more. Thank you!

  Disappointed member

  Been members for 16 years and have paid a ton of money to be members at the highest level. Unfortunately, the ownership/leadership continue to degrade the value of our membership by taking away "perks" of membership. We now get treated like anyone else that just goes to the resort. The on site staff continues to be wonderful. They are very kind, friendly, and will do anything they can for you. Unfortunately, they have to work within the guidelines set by the leadership.

  Overall, good but nothing special

  My massage was okay. The spa is spacious and has good vibes, but the water in the hydro pool (the largest) is very cold. The jacuzzi is nice, though small. The upstairs deck is lovely but is shaded from ~2pm onwards, which makes it cold to sit out there. The juice bar is a nice touch, though snack options are very limited. We loved the rooftop pool and the change room facilities. I would have given this a 4-star review but we were made to feel rushed to leave the spa, despite not being told when booking that we were supposed to have a restricted time limit (it says 9am-7pm online). This left a bad taste in our mouths and we will not be coming back here.
