Acceptable for budget travel

The resort is adequate for what it is - a low-budget vacation option. The rooms are fine - moderately comfortable beds, large restrooms, and with a full length mirror (a plus that not all hotels seem to realize). Most of the buildings have three floors and no elevators, keep that in mind if you are disabled or just don't like climbing stairs. The main building where most things are located though does has six floors and an elevator. If you are driving here, the street entrance is unassuming and if you blink you will miss it. It took us a while to find, they definitely need better signage. The resort overall is the tiniest I have been to in the Mexico/Caribbean region. There is one main pool that is a decent size, a kiddie pool, and a hot tub (that is located in the shade and often was not actually hot). The beach is super close with an 'ok' amount of chairs but you are constantly hounded by locals to buy their goods and hotel staff seems to do nothing to curtail this. It is the opposite of relaxing to be confronted every five minutes to buy something or get your hair braided. While I prefer beaches, I was forced to spend most of my time at the pool so I could actually relax. My biggest disappointment came from the food. The resort has a buffet and three a la carte restaurants (Mexican, Asian fusion, and Italian). We didn't make it to the Italian one and thus cannot comment on it. For the other two, the menus generally had only 3-5 options per course. The Mexican food I wouldn't eat again (and I LOVE Mexican food). The Asian spot was fairly tasty and ended up being the only meal I enjoyed during my stay. Second favorite dish was the sancocho from the buffet. The 'snack bar' is basically a joke of cliche American stereotypical food at basically room temperature. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. They had a few different events going on throughout the day and one night they put on a stars show where they imitated various American stars (i.e. Lady Gaga, Usher, Bruno Mars, Beyonce, etc.) through a dance and lip sync act. The show was great and a nice, fun break. Location wise - you are about 30 minutes from the airport and 80 minutes from the main attractions of Puerto Plata. Overall - I wouldn't go back and would opt to pay a bit more to stay somewhere bigger with more to do and much better food. If this is the only place you can afford, you will have an ok time if you remember you get what you pay for.

viva wyndham tang- not good

I want to start off by saying Vacation is what you make it. and we made the best of what we had there. This was our second trip to Dominican and I thought Viva was going to be better, but I was wrong. The pictures look nice but the reality is different. The resort itself is small and outdated. The rooms were older and needed renovations. We are super simple folk but expected things to be much better. The paint in the room was chipping, the A/C smelled like mold and the slider doors wouldn't shut. They do not even respect the DO NOT DUISTURB ROOM KEY and walked in regardless. the resort staff is not as freindly as other resorts and i felt they were non interactive unless it was timed show whcih was sub par. The whole place was timed. the pool even closed early at 8. My biggest thing is the people at the beach front selling items and are in your face like vultures the second you step foot out there, day in and day out!!! I will not go back just on this alone. I finally blew my top on day 4 with one of them. They split everything they make and even pay off security...which i witnessed. The beach is the best part and absolutly beautiful. The sunrise and beach walk everyday was amazing and even a walk into town was fantastic. Vagamuno coffee right outside the resort was amazing!! and gorditos has the best fish tacos in the world. I will not return here and will go back top LaRomana. or Punta cana next time.

Bang for your buck!!

It was my first time visiting the DR and I wouldn't change anything about my stay. The hotel has a great location, all the staff are super friendly, and the food in my opinion was great. Really any complaints I may have had were insignificant in comparison to my overall experience. The pool area is really nice and there is always something going on there whether it be day or night. The hotel is only half an hour from the POP airport, and I must say I was so relieved walking through those front doors after traveling for hours. Vendors will approach you on the beach, if you're not interested in what they're selling just ignore them honestly, they'll get the hint. There's so much to do on the beach as well if you take a little walk down, which makes the location so great imo. If you have any problems with your room, let the front desk know and they'll upgrade you. Like I said, the staff are very friendly and accommodating.

GREAT DEAL FOR A BEAUTIFUL RESORT

PUERTO PLATA GREAT TIMES :) Sept 5-12, 2018. Beautiful combination of nature, palm trees, warm water at the beach, clean pool, warm Jacuzzi. Entertainment Team kept people in a happy mood all the time! Bar service & Disco atmosphere was fun. Restaurants food and service was delicious as well as the buffet BUT I saw flies all over the food as people were serving themselves, saw couple roaches crawling on the floor and a rat running from garden to vicinity of the Jacuzzi. Room service was good but there are basic things that need to be improved: 1) only one garbage can in the room (which was located in the bathroom). none by the beds or under the credenza. 2) bathroom sink FAUCET was loose and SLIDING DOOR LOCK was not working properly.

Hotel Description

Viva Wyndham Tangerine: Private Beach, Personal Paradise

Tired of the humdrum and ready for some action? The all-inclusive Viva Wyndham Tangerine lies smack dab in the heart of Puerto Plata in the town of Cabarete. The resort is on a newly expanded private beach, featuring complimentary loungers and towels, so the only things you need to bring are plans for all the fun that is just waiting for you.

Tangerine's expansive freshwater pool offers prime real estate for aqua adventures. Parents can unwind and relax in their own oasis. And, kids get to splash around in their own, supervised pool courtesy of the Kids' Program.

The resort's 4 dining options keep stomachs full and happy while providing all the variety you want with a touch of Caribbean flair. The Dominican Republic and Puerto Plata boasts its own flavorful take on food that you'll find delicious. After dinner, there's nearby nightlife, but the resort's live, nightly entertainment and disco keep the party hoppin' close to home.

After a night of dancing, try a different sort of shimmy on the majestic, rolling waters just off the shores of Cabarete. Kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and kite-surfing are yours for the asking. Back at the resort, there's an adult game room for a touch of friendly indoor competition. Enjoy a bit of indoor pampering at the full-service spa or go mountain biking and horseback riding if you're looking for something with speed and adventure. If you just want to dominate the competition with your blistering serve or enviable bicep curls, the hard-surfaced tennis court and fitness center are happy to oblige.

When it's time to wind down, your comfy room is waiting just for you. A cushy bed offers a superb spot to crash, and a mini bar stands ready to help you relax as you plan your next day in paradise.
