Great Experience

My wife and I just returned from a week at this resort. I've been to plenty of all inclusives, consider myself an average hard working American so when I read reviews from others, I take everything with a grain of salt. I also do my research when selecting a hotel so I do appreciate like minded peoples opinions. Personally, I take into consideration this is a third world country, non english speaking, and a country that heavily depends on tourism. I hope this review provides help for others looking for a great vacation with an honest account of feedback from our experience. Resort - the grounds where excellent, well maintained and the workers were cleaning and taking care of them daily. Great walk/ride from the rooms to the lobby through the natural surroundings and plenty of ducks and birds to feed on the way. On the beach you will be approached by people trying to sell excursions, souvenirs, and cigars but just say "no" and they move on. Certainly didn't ruin our vacation. Pools/Beach - Pools were great. Pool 3 where with the swim up bar is busy and there is entertainment all day long so if your looking for quiet, don't sit at that pool go to the other ones. Beach had amazing white sand and clear water but did have a lot of seaweed. Every morning there was a crew of 15 guys loading up the seaweed into a truck to be removed. They did a good job as best they could and ultimately we didn't really care we just walked through the seaweed or cooled off at the pool. Although the resort says "no reserving sun beds" EVERYONE did it so the "best" seats where not always open but we never had any problem finding a sun bed at the beach or pool, we ended up starting to leave our towels as well as it seemed the norm. Twice around 10AM we went to get towels and they didn't have any but a short 10 minute wait and we got one without any issue. We were on vacation so a quick cocktail did the job nicely. Room - I agree with a lot of the reviews prior to mine regarding some updates. However, our room was just fine, AC wasn't perfect but certainly kept us cool. The shower only had hot water from 4-6PM (no idea why but seemed that way). Personally, I was fine, a warm shower is good but my wife prefers VERY hot showers so again, everyone has a preference on shower temperature. Bed was a little hard but we only slept in the room. I did leave a few dollars every other morning for our cleaner and she kept our fridge stocked up and nice and clean. FYI....the safe costs $20 for the week which we didn't know so keep that in mind. WiFi - Only place that offers free wifi is the lobby and the connection is average. We found that early morning or lunch time was good so we would head that way to call home and check on the kids. Personally, we chose not to purchase the resort wide wifi ($5 a day) as we wanted a break. It wasn't great by any means but was fine for what we needed. Food - Overall it was good. Typical resort buffet, decent variety and they had consistent pizza and pasta stations every meal if the "theme" food wasn't what you wanted. Fruit, salad, breads were all great! I had no issue of being hungry. We loved the coffee shop "Le Creperie Cafe" every afternoon by having crepes and a frappuccino. Entertainment - the workers or "entertainment" crew went non stop from 10AM to midnight everyday. Beach to the pools to the nightly show. They work hard and really do a great job. Shows at night were decent, lots of Spanish music and traditional dancing so not everyones preference but was something nice to do at 9:45PM. We did go to the casino a couple nights which had a shuttle service free of charge and a short 5 minute ride. Very easy and safe to do! We won a few dollars so that was nice! We did go to the disco Saturday night and it was quiet so we didn't stay long. I'm sure it picked up in the early hours of the morning but we didn't feel like waiting around. Bars - plenty of options for drinks. They have a good drink selection and did offer a cocktail of the day. I don't think I waited for more than 2 minutes for a drink. Service was excellent and the staff appreciated my attempt to speak what very little Spanish I know. Beach bar is open 24 hours....most others close at 10PM. Overall, we had an amazing trip and would go back to this resort again. If your looking for 5 Star American hotel destination, this is probably not what you'd want. Great place for a family, couples, and groups. It was the perfect way to relax with my wife for 6 days and get away from the daily grind.

I wouldn’t revisit this resort

For the price I paid, I would not revisit this resort. After waiting hours to check in, the room was not the room I booked, it was trashy & it smelled bad. I went to complain and finally was able to get into the room I paid for. On our first full day of staying at the resort, my fiancé who had just proposed, was harassed by a guy trying to sell us excursions. We went then, immediately, complained to the manager of our resort and security...we tried to enjoy the rest of our stay to the best of our ability as it was our anniversary as well. I will not be visiting tropical princess again :(

Do not recommend

For starters barely anyone at the tropical princess resort spoke English and the few that did only knew very little which was frustrating. I get that we are in a different country but when you can’t communicate it ruins a vacation quick. It’s a resort it’s not like we were in downtown Punta Cana. My sisters rooms A/C didn’t work and when they got there they had no blankets just sheets. My room had a leak in the big bathroom sink so the rooms needed to be updated badly. The cleaning crew did do a good job though. I absolutely hated that we can’t drink the water there because I have a baby and constantly making bottles I was going through the bottles water too fast which left nothing for me my son or my husband to drink. I did not like that everything closed so early such as the pools and bars. They close at 7 and most people don’t even really start partying until 8 or 9. Both times we went to get beach towels they were out. There was never seats in the shade available. The activities either always seemed closed or my 7 year old was too young for. The seaweed was horrible and smelt really bad. I hated that there was only 1 included restraint because it was a buffet and most of the food was dry or semi cold from being sat out. The other restraunts that were cash was $35 a plate per person which would have been $140 for my sisters family to have a decent meal. And the sales pitches were awful!!! Everywhere we went there was at least 1 person waiting to stop every one that walked by to get them to buy stuff which was super annoying not to mention when you said no or kept walking they would just follow you. The excursions were outrageous in price so we basically had to just swim all day which I can do at home for free... there was only 2 very small gift shops and $20 for sunscreen? Really? Overall the staff was nice though. The grounds were beautiful and seemed to be well taken care of. Then in the airport they tried to rip us off twice. First they tried to charge $100 for a $25 check on bag and the 2nd time they tried to take a 1oz bottle of cologne from me unless I paid $40 to check my carry on right after my mom passed security with her small bottle of perfume. The front desk at the airport was suppose to open at 5 and we all stood there until 5:20 while the workers talked. Overall it wasn’t the best experience and I do not feel like I got what I paid for.

Loved this hotel

My family and I spent 4 days 3 nights, I loved the overlook of the hotel very colorful with a beautiful environment, the food was amazing, the animation team was another thing that I loved, they were very friendly and enthusiastic. I did parasailing with my sister and it was an amazing experience!!!! I was disappointed with beach and there was a lot of mosquitoes.
