Top Singles Resorts

by Roberto Jaimes

There are honeymoon vacations, destination weddings, family getaways, and romantic holidays for two. But what about the single traveler, or a group of friends just wanting to relax and enjoy all the Caribbean has to offer? Luckily, there are destinations for anyone not interested in spending time with newlyweds or having a weekend with someone else's Aunt Martha.

For Friends

Singles vacations don't necessarily mean travelling alone. It can also mean having a beach adventure with your besties, bros, buds, or BFFs. The Caribbean offers plenty for friends, and here are a couple places you can relive the good ol' days--or create new ones.

Where to Go

The Dominican Republic is quickly becoming one of the most popular vacation destinations, and with all the all-inclusive resorts, incredible beaches, and great weather, it's no surprise. Puerto Plata is a popular spot for singles, but don't forget to check out Punta Cana. Although it's more couples-friendly than Puerto Plata, Punta Cana offers a laid-back atmosphere with singles' events, such as Jewish Singles Week, sprinkled in.

For a more relaxing getaway, you could head over to St. Lucia. BodyHoliday offers quite a bit of spa treatments along with other healthy activities to fill your days. And when you want to go out, the Rodney Bay district is a great singles-hangout with outdoor restaurant, bars, and music.

For the Solo Traveler

For some people, singles vacations really means traveling alone. These types of vacations are great and allow someone to go exploring and experience an adventure. If you're looking to go off the beaten path or just live it up every night, there's plenty to choose from.

Where to Go

With its nightlife, casinos, numerous dining options, and proximity to the U.S., Puerto Rico is a great place for single travelers to visit. San Juan is a great place to see historical sites then venture into the lush greenery. The El Yunque Rainforest is a serene escape from modern life, with its mountain views and gentle wildlife. Bonus: there are no poisonous snakes in this rain forest!

For a decidedly less natural locale, you could also hop on over to Montego Bay in Jamaica. The party scene is hopping and plenty of singles are attracted to its engaging nightlife and affordable options. The beaches are gorgeous, and there are quite a few excursions to take advantage of like a jeep safari or swimming with the dolphins. And don't forget to stop by at Margaritaville on the "Hip Strip" to share a round of booze in a blender!

For the Adult-Only Adventurer

Sometimes adults want to have fun, too, and the Caribbean offers just that kind of thing. Singles vacationers can let loose at several adults-only playgrounds that cater to the wilder side.

Where to Go

One of the biggest names in adult-only travel happens to have a name that sounds like a sequel. Hedonism II in Negril, Jamaica is an inhibitions-free resort with special "nude" and "prude" areas. But outside of the resort, Negril is home to great Jamaican cuisine, informal atmosphere, and reggae parties to dance the night away.

Cancun, on the other hand, has its own well-earned reputation as a first-class party town. It's like the spirit of Spring Break lives here and wants you to down some shots before the sun goes down and the parties get going. While Senor Frogs caters to your inner-Beer Pong champion, other clubs and bars in the area can offer a more intimate ambiance.
