Wonderful and Relaxing Vacation

Had a great time there, very relaxing. Angel the waiter at the Oceana Restaurant was excellent and we were lucky enough to get him several nights. The one annoyance was they were on a constant mission to sell something else or con us into going to breakfast for a propaganda session on joining the Secrets Preferred Club, etc. The beach was great and the snorkeling there at the Secrets Aura beach was a lot better than the snorkeling trip we paid for. Take the jeep tour around the island for a good day out and visit the little restaurant above the museum in San Miguel for a fantastic breakfast...although the breakfast at Secrets is pretty good too. Would definitely stay there again. Secrets, take a hint; don't try to start selling to me the minute I walk in the door. We already booked a preferred ocean view room, I don't need to be bullied into signing up for other services and sales pitches 30 minutes after I get there.

Mixed feelings, mixed review.

Well, I wouldn't buy a timeshare here but much of the vacation was superb. The structure has problems - main dining room turned into a lake from leaking roof. The delightful water slides from many rooms stopped working after one day, leaving the water stagnant. Worst was the dampness in the rooom itself. By evening, after they'd done their nice turn down service, even the bed sheets were too clammy to get into. I taught them not to turn it back so only the top of the duvet was cold and damp. We should have asked to change rooms but it wasn't obvious until after we'd been there a day or two. The floors were so wet and clammy I covered where I was walking with towels. That was the worst part of the vacation. Food was particularly good in restaurants where it was a 'special' - fish frys, El Patio, the Mexican restaurant in Sabor next door which you can use free also was great. Order Mexican coffee , not on menu, and have Kenny fix it. He was great with all the flaming dishes - they make a show out of fajitas, desserts - and the coffee. It is clear the staff wants to satisfy. We never heard the word 'no' about any request. Everyone was so polite and friendly, it was a shock getting back to the airport and the states. Particularly the Entertainment Team - a fancy name for four young people with talent and energy that went from dawn til midnight! Marta, Mena, Hugo (Winnie the Pooh) and Gibran, or Mr.G. They organized activities from 10 am to 10 PM! Whether it was pool or beach volleyball, aerobics, archery or shooting(yes!) snorkeling off beach, cooking demonstrations and wonderful evening entertainment of singers and dancers or Fire Eaters - they participated and excelled at all. And were friendly and kind - like your own family and it was sincere - I can spot a fake a mile away. If you snorkel, stick with the resort. There truly are many wonderful fish right in he rocks out front and the beach is gorgeous as well as the pools. I would go again and change rooms til I got one that worked.

Spend Your Hard Earned $$ Elsewhere

Purchased this for a 40th Bday & Anniv trip. Very disappointed! Paid for a swim up suite that smelled & they seemed put off to accommodate them didn't have a comp room to put us in. We paid for an upgrade to be moved, yet the room wasn't near as nice. DON'T pay for preferred!! You won't get your money's worth. Preferred rooms are not an upgrade like they say, they DON'T check anything at the bars or pools or even give upgrades on drinks. Drinks are all the same at both bars and both clubs. Several restaurants were closed completely for remodeling though that wasn't listed ahead of time & the others were only opened on certain nights thereby greatly limiting food options. The food that was served wasn't very good and surprisingly there was barely any seafood! To get a good meal we had to go into town which defeats the purpose of an all inclusive vacation. We were also bombarded first thing at the airport about timeshares. Then again when we arrived at the resort. Then AGAIN on the beach, as well as being called at 8 am on our 1st morning of vacation. We were then called several more times in our room AND on our cell phone requesting us to attend their breakfast to hear the "presentation". It took complaining about all of the calls and interference and disturbing us constantly for them to stop. Beautiful island and beach. We met lovely friends. But do not recommend the resort.

Decent

Our first room, which was a swim up smelled something awful for some reason, We tried, but couldn't take the smell another day. So the next day we were moved to an ocean front suite in the preferred section. Room was good after they came and fixed the air. It was nicer to use the preferred beach area somewhat at least as far as the loungers. The service was really great everywhere we thought. We tipped everyone, and every time too which I think was appreciated. It took us a couple of days to find everything and all the amenities, but it was just fine. We had no real issue with out stay.

What's to Love

Newly renovated in 2015-2016, this resort is all shiny, splashy new.

The salvation of the cool towel and thirst-quenching welcome cocktail when arriving in paradise.

The sleek white, boxy architecture (very glam).

Hip suites with comfy beds that have private balconies or terraces and take-your-breath-away views.

Scuba diving at the epic Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and being awed by the fabled coral reefs.

You can take scuba lessons at the Dive House. Sweet.

The candlelight dinner for two on the beach while the purr of the waves serenades you.

Secrets box for private room service delivery - you don't ever have to see a human if you don't want to.

Snorkeling under the dock that boasts stingrays and parrot fish. (One beach lover even saw a barracuda).

The world-class spa with Seaweed Wraps, invigorating hydrotherapy and exotic indigenous treatments. Swoon.

A pier to wander out on and get hypnotized by the point where the blue water meets the azure horizon.

What We'd Change

Cozumel doesn't have as many activities as Cancun. After all, it is an island. But Secrets always has a lot of adult-only activities to keep you entertained.

Why You Should Go

You're just 20 minutes away from the airport so your rockin' vacay will start before you know it.

You're just 15 minutes away from downtown Cozumel. Just a $15 (U.S. dollars) to cab it there.

You can upgrade to Preferred Club which means better rooms, private swimming pool, and much more.

The mysteriously cool Chicen Itza and Coba Ruins are a short hop away. (Ooo-ahhh).

Lit tennis courts. Woot!

You can improve your game on an 18-hole golf course designed by the great Jack Nicklaus.

The largest beachfront in Cozumel is out back.

You can try you hand at kayaking, Hobie cats and water volleyball - don't be shy. Dive in!

Bring your aqua shoes - the beach is like finely ground seashells.

Most restaurants require men to wear long pants and no flip flops.

Probably no going shirtless or tank tops, unless you're a male Abercrombie model.
