Food was absolutely horrible-Rooms were dirty, in disrepair and smelly. Had to call front desk many many times for toilet paper ,water and other amenities -Refrigerator was also broken and therefore nothing was cold in the fridge..There were no dressers or suit case stands to put anything on-Very disappointed and nasty

Secrets Aura Vaca

We stayed as a couple the first part of November, 2018. Overall, the resort is nice. We have stayed at a few 4-5 star resorts throughout Mexico, and have to say this one was not as stellar, but still good! We noticed the service on the beach, and at pool, lacking. We stayed in a preferred ocean view suite- not an ocean view at all as we were sitting at an angle to the beach and the palms were all blocking out any ocean view, so that was a disappoint! The room itself was nice. We did not notice any major issues with upkeep and our room was cleaned well daily, usually later in the day. We had turn down service one night of our stay, but had the do not disturb sign up the remainder of our evenings as we go to bed pretty early, so this was good. We had a wonderful server almost every time we ate at oceana- our most favorite was Carol (Carolina)- she was fantastic!!! The food there was good, and our favorite dinner spot was Bourdeaux- more good food. Overall, the food choices were not as plentiful as other resorts, and a bit bland as I prefer spicy, flavorful foods. We did not eat at the sister resort while staying here. A big disappointment for me was the sushi on the rooftop area- bland, bland, bland. We have eaten good sushi in many places, so we were bummed! The weather: we had some rain, but nothing that prevented us from being outdoors for very long. We snorkeled a lot, right along the ocean in front of the hotel, and it was fantastic. You might bring some water shoes for the entry in to the ocean is rocky with coral, but there are spots to get in if you don't bring them also. You can borrow snorkel gear, but we brought our own. We also enjoyed borrowing paddle boards and kayaks! We had a walkable beach here, something important to my husband and I. Even though we stayed in the preferred section of the resort, we found the other part of the beach, chairs, and pools better, because the crowds were much less in the other parts- we suspect all guests go to the preferred pool and the preferred loungers on the beach as was always incredibly crowded. My spouse and I like smaller resorts, boutique size, so this was too big/crowded for us. We are not big "group activity" people, but if you are, they had something going on many times of the day/evening. We did partake in one morning stretch/yoga on the beach and Arby the activity director was great! As far as the question, if we would return- possibly, but not likely any time soon as we have many more places to explore! PS- see photo attached for the explanation on the sulfur smell that is present at times in the resort.

53rd Anniversary

We got there our room was wrong. We were now the only ones. Had to move twice and still didn't get the right room. Food was ok but the portions in the restaurants were very small. Room service never got anything right, we would order white wine, we would get red. Access into the only small swim-up bar was very dangerous. Two small weak slippery metal ladders. My wife hurt herself trying to get in the pool as did another big man who slip and hurt himself. They say they have nightly entertainment, that's a joke, never saw it, unless you call eating tacos on the beach entertainment. Lock on our door was broken, hair dryer broken, sink took forever to empty, etc., etc. First time (and last time) for a Secrets, very let down, not a great 53 anniversary.

Very nice experience

My husband and I went in October for our anniversary. The beaches were AMAZING! Great to snorkel in, water was warm. The company owns Secrets and Sun Scape resorts, so you are essentially getting two resorts for one price as they let you use the beach and restaurants at both places! VERY NICE! My only complaint was the room was not what was shown on the website. 1/2 of the resort is really new (which is what is pictured) and 1/2 isn’t. We were put in the older side. Still nice, but not what was advertised. Food was good, drinks were great, they have an onsite coffee bar which was cool and the spa was WONDERFUL. We would recommend for the value.

What's to Love

Newly renovated in 2015-2016, this resort is all shiny, splashy new.

As of June 2018 you can bring your furry friend along!

The salvation of the cool towel and thirst-quenching welcome cocktail when arriving in paradise.

The sleek white, boxy architecture (very glam).

Hip suites with comfy beds that have private balconies or terraces and take-your-breath-away views.

Scuba diving at the epic Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and being awed by the fabled coral reefs.

You can take scuba lessons at the Dive House. Sweet.

The candlelight dinner for two on the beach while the purr of the waves serenades you.

Secrets box for private room service delivery - you don't ever have to see a human if you don't want to.

Snorkeling under the dock that boasts stingrays and parrot fish. (One beach lover even saw a barracuda).

The world-class spa with Seaweed Wraps, invigorating hydrotherapy and exotic indigenous treatments. Swoon.

A pier to wander out on and get hypnotized by the point where the blue water meets the azure horizon.

What We'd Change

Cozumel doesn't have as many activities as Cancun. After all, it is an island. But Secrets always has a lot of adult-only activities to keep you entertained.

Why You Should Go

You're just 20 minutes away from the airport so your rockin' vacay will start before you know it.

You're just 15 minutes away from downtown Cozumel. Just a $15 (U.S. dollars) to cab it there.

You can upgrade to Preferred Club which means better rooms, private swimming pool, and much more.

The mysteriously cool Chicen Itza and Coba Ruins are a short hop away. (Ooo-ahhh).

Lit tennis courts. Woot!

You can improve your game on an 18-hole golf course designed by the great Jack Nicklaus.

The largest beachfront in Cozumel is out back.

You can try you hand at kayaking, Hobie cats and water volleyball - don't be shy. Dive in!

Bring your aqua shoes - the beach is like finely ground seashells.

Most restaurants require men to wear long pants and no flip flops.

Probably no going shirtless or tank tops, unless you're a male Abercrombie model.
