One of the best at Royal Hideaway Playacar
The service and food at The Grill make it one of, if not, the best restaurants at Royal Hideaway Playacar. Carlos Quinta was an amazing host who made us feel so welcomed and accommodated. He made us feel special and cared for throughout our whole night. On top of that, the food was the best we had at the hotel. If you stay at Royal Hideaway Playacar, you have to make a reservation here!

Disappointing Third Visit – Poor Service, Rude Management, and No Accountability
This was my third and likely final visit to Royal Hideaway Playacar, and I am deeply disappointed by how far the service has declined. We arrived around 12 PM on June 26 and were told check-in wouldn’t be available until 3 PM, which is standard. However, it began raining, and we were left outside without assistance. Despite clearly seeing that our room (2223) was cleaned and ready, we were made to wait in the lobby for hours—jet-lagged, tired, and soaked. No one offered help or even a basic gesture of hospitality, except for one employee who was cleaning the floors. To make matters worse, while I tried to rest in the lobby, I was abruptly woken by a staff member—not to check us in—but to fix an error in a cabana reservation charge. At 3 PM, we were sent to find our concierge, who was off duty that day. No backup was arranged. After wandering to another villa with no help there either, I saw another guest—who had arrived after us—already in her room with luggage delivered. Meanwhile, we were still chasing someone down to get a key. On June 27, I had a cabana reserved, but it stormed heavily with 95% chance of rain and 22 mph winds. The concierge agreed to cancel it, and we didn’t rebook for the 28th due to ongoing weather concerns and our departure on the 29th. However, during checkout, Lorena Villafuerte (front desk manager) attempted to deny the refund, rudely asking if it had rained “all day” on the 28th, as if short breaks in a storm justified forcing a 69-year-old woman to sit outside. To top it off, we were denied the hibachi experience on the 28th after being told it was full—only to arrive and find just three people seated. We were forced to sit and watch others enjoy the experience we requested. This stay lacked basic customer care, accountability, and empathy. As a returning guest who once recommended this property to friends, I now strongly advise others to reconsider. There are plenty of beautiful resorts in Playa del Carmen that still value their guests. Sadly, Royal Hideaway Playacar no longer seems to be one of them.

A low key getaway
A nice resort, a little on the smaller side. It's a more intimate setting nice for a quiet getaway. This is not a high energy loud party place if that's what you are looking for. There is no pool bar, but nice pools and a bar close to the pool and beach. Plenty of servers taking orders around the pool and the beach. If you are a male make sure you take a pair of long pants (something I never do on Caribbean vacations) because the better restaurants at the resort require them. We were unaware and uninformed until we got there and were making reservations. Overall a nice quiet comfortable place to stay.
