A Disappointment
We have traveled to Costa Rica before. Different hotel, adults only. VERY let down by this specific resort.. The Barcelo chain has a good reputation, not sure what is going on here. I will definitely NOT recommend this specific hotel.

A paradise experience
From start to finish our sisters reunion couldn’t have been more magnificent! The staff was so friendly, the atmosphere was inviting, with live music by talented musicians, the rooms were very comfortable and clean. Service responded quickly whenever we asked for anything extra such as towels and soap. The food at the buffet and restaurants was exquisitely delicious! We enjoyed the pool and the beach as they were both very well kept. Plenty of lounge chairs at the beach where we enjoyed the blue warm ocean. The manager of excursions, JJ went out of his way to compensate for the one day of activity that we did not enjoy as expected. The gift shop was a pleasure as Madeline helped us out with great promotional discounts. My sisters and l are already planning our next visit.

amazing value for the price we paid
we are very satisfied with our 13 nights at this resort for adults only, mainly because of the value for the money. We booked quite a few months ago, so I guess we got a really good rate, but in any case compared to all the other very expensive resorts in this region, it is very very good for its value overall. The best thing we liked is the fact that it is a large property with only 160 rooms, so we never really waited for anything. yes it is a dated resort and it needs a renovation but the essentials were satisfying : food, drinks, our room (big and clean). There are some issues with sometimes tacky music and volume too high, and maybe the quality of the pools needs to improve, but the beach is nice and chairs are always available. Bravo to the entertainment, spa, housekeeping, reception and restaurant teams, we had consistent excellent service. It was also fun to see and meet many Canadians staying here. We are recommending this resort to our family members and friends.

Would not recommend
Person at check in rude, need to ask 3 times to fix ac, need to ask several times for clean sheets and towels. Steak house blasting the same sound track all night and all morning with no one there. Asked several times about it and they say not supposed to but don't know how/ don't really try to turn off. Overall room service and guest service really low, must ask several times for anything to change. I'm here with my loved ones so still enjoying myself but you'll see for yourself that overall service is low. I won't get into everything but unfortunately you'll see for yourself.

A Costa Rican 5 Star
Coming to this resort I think it’s important to keep in mind where you are at. If you are looking for a 5 star resort in Mexico or the Bahamas, this is not for you. The resort itself is clean. There are some areas that could use some upkeep, but it is overall wear and tear. The rooms are pretty spacious overall and again kept clean. We had some minor issues in our room, such as never having hand towels or floor towels and the tv and phone were broken. Overall, staff were pretty receptive and able to fix issues right away. The mini fridge was not kept stocked either. This is not a big deal for us, but for some it seemed to be an area for concern. We had a second floor room and had zero issues with any type of critter getting into it. I was initially skeptical about the amount of reviews stating that scorpions, lizards , crabs and raccoons were getting into their rooms, but this was never an issue for us. We did hear people talking about raccoons on their patios though. The resort does have tons of wildlife. There are iguanas by the pool and in the trees. We saw monkeys in the trees by the pool and grill. There are raccoons around dusk. We heard howler monkeys a few times over our stay. There is also a variety of birds on the daily. We also saw a lot of reviews about the food. Overall, we thought the food was good. The buffet upstairs is limited for options. We never had an issue with breakfast but, it is repetitive. For lunch, we did the grill everyday. The chicken there is actually delicious and the burgers are good too. We did the buffet for dinner every night, but one. There was only one night that we struggled to find enough to fill us. We did the Italian restaurant once and the food there was really really good. There were times where you had to wait to be seated at any of the areas. The pool areas are nice, nothing special. There are tons of chairs at the main pool and when we were there they never were full. The first full day we were there that pool was closed though for “chemicals”. The pool was very dirty and cloudy. The communication surrounding the issues was minimal but, it opened the next day and was much cleaner. The small pool with the pool bar is nice but, we did not spend much time down there as it tended to be a more rowdier crowd. The beach was nice but, if you want to lounge on a beach and get sun, this is not for you. It was very scenic and we enjoyed walking on it. If you are not a walker, maybe have some limitations with mobility or just want to relax 24/7 , this resort may not be for you. We had on average 5,000 steps a day while there and walked about 10 stories (according to the health app). Overall, I would absolutely stay here again.
