nice beach and not crowded

This is our second time staying at the Melia. We love the beach and the small size of the resort. The beach was cleaned daily. No reserving chairs at the beach or pool. It is close to the airport but no planes flying overhead ever! Staff is wonderful and we noticed the same people working there this year. It must be a good place to work. The food gets tiresome if you are there too long. And it is not always safe to eat. We had a magot fall off a muffin at breakfast. We recommend eating anything freshly prepared. The lines for omlets or grill items are short. The resturants are great. Make your reservation and eat dinner there. Breakfast is the best meal of the day! Staff at the front desk are very helpful and speak good English. I needed a prescription filled and the delivery person from the pharmacy downtown happened to be there when I asked for help. He called in my order, picked it up and delivered it in 40 minutes! That was amazing luck; but I also credit the front desk.

Gorgeous Resort - Food not so great

This was my first time to Melia. The resort grounds were beautiful! We were able to check in and get to our room quickly (around 3pm local time). ROOM - The room was nicer than I was expecting (only due to some bad reviews of them), however ours did not have a dresser which would have been nice since we stayed for a week. The shower pressure was not great but the water was hot so no complaints here! The bed was very comfortable. The TV stations were 90% spanish speaking, which was disappointing at night when winding down, but understandable. We had an ocean front room and had to walk stairs to get to our room. It was fine for us, but for some it might not. FOOD - It was my fiances first all inclusive, so he was excited to eat, eat, eat! This was a disappointment. I had read reviews (I did a LOT before our trip) that mentioned the lack of food choices. I figured though, there are so many options; snack bar and a buffet, I am sure we can find something. There is a lot of variety true, but honestly nothing that I could even settle eating. There was chicken every night, but it looked like butchered pieces with bone. Not appetizing. We got a pizza made after choosing our toppings, and only ate a couple bites. I felt horrible leaving that for them to pick up, but it wasn't good. I figured I will try the snack bar. I got chicken tenders and fries. They came out immediately and were cold. The chicken tenders looked really good, however these too were inedible. They were hard and had a bad taste. The fries, same. The only saving grace was breakfast. They had omelets and eggs, toast, every morning. No bacon however which I thought odd. We tried the Italian "restaurant" and sat for about 15 minutes before anyone came to take out order. We ended up going to town for a few days in a row to eat food unfortunately. BEACH - Beautiful beach! I am not sure why so many in some reviews complain about the seaweed. It is apparently natural to all of the island. They are out there sweeping it up every morning, and there was never too much to not enjoy swimming. One particular windy day there was more than normal, but still not horrible. We bought water shoes and glad we did. The ocean floor is a little rocky and the shoes made it really easy to walk around. GETTING AROUND/TOWN - This is one thing I was worried about, as most people in my day to day life always tell me how dangerous Mexico is. This island was the friendliest, and easiest to get around in. I would feel safe renting a bicycle and riding into town. Taxi's cost about $5-$9, depending on where we went. At the airport, I heard you have to walk off the airport to get a taxi. Otherwise there is a shuttle to take that is $8 per person. I will definitely walk next time and pay less for the taxi. I DID NOT get the transportation thru CC- as they wanted $72 total for round trip. I am so glad I didn't purchase this. It wasnt needed and transportation was easy and safe to find. All in all I would come back to try Melia again. The only thing for me was the food was disappointing majority of times.

Meliá Cozumel Golf

I just got back from a week at Meliá Cozumel Golf. It was a nice affordable vacation. I thought the room was fine, but the air conditioner is extremely noisy. I had to turn it off to sleep and open the balcony doors. The food at the buffets was just average, but the dinners that you had to make revervations for were very good. The beach was nice. The workers raked up the seaweed every morning. The pool was also very nice. I like to snorkel, so I walked down to the next resort towards town, and the water was a bit clearer. The service at the hotel was very good.

Melia

We booked the premium room, got put on the 9th floor, got a birthday banner on the the door of the person having a birthday, got chocolate strawberries in all three rooms, got fresh fruit on the second day, hotel staff was awesome from beginning to end, the staff is always wanting to know if they can help or if you need anything. They have a kids area pool where all the scheduled activities are listed, like stretching and yoga, archery, paint ball, basket ball, battling cages, tennis court and beach volleyball, kids pool is out of the way from the adult pool and if you didn`t go to that side you wouldn't even know they had two pool areas. Adult pool has a swim up room and an awesome bartender Willy he was a multitasking bartender that had to work both the pool and beach and was amazing. The room were clean and made up everyday. The beach is long and has powder like sand the water is not as clear as the resort next door but but is not bad just not clear and blue, Cozumeleno hotel next door has real clear water due to a concrete pier keeps the waves from bringing in things that could murk up the water. But for a less expensive type beach vacation it works for a good time and get away, the golf is included as well if you upgrade if that is something you are interested in as well. Hector our Cheap Caribbean on site rep helped us a rental car, pirate ship dinner cruise and a snorkel trip, the only issues we had was the snorkel trip was not a catamaran and not much of a party atmosphere but the snorkeling was good once we got in the water and they had to pick up three other places after they picked us up at the marina which takes a lot of you time that you could be snorkeling but it was a less expensive snorkel trip.

What's to Love

Snorkeling is aahh-mazing - the coral reef here is world-renowned & more than epic.

A world-class golf course is just across the street, but there's mini golf if you wanna take it down a notch.

A great family vacay spot that offers the salvation of an adults-only pool when you need it.

The ridiculously relaxing massages you can get in the spa, by the pool or by the ocean.

The complimentary (read: FREE) scuba lesson that will ready you, or not, for the deep blue.

Hopping on a scooter or moped and checking out Mother Nature's awesomeness around you.

The shows in the evening are pretty darn amusing. The entertainment team has got skillz.

What We'd Change

This Melia hotel in Cozumel is a tad on the small side, but it offers a golf course across the street and scuba and snorkeling expeditions to the world's second largest coral reef.

Why You Should Go

The airport is just five minutes from the airport. Breathe and you'll be on the beach.

Buy your transfers (from us) to and from the airport. It'll be one less thing to worry about.

There are five snazzy, jazzy bars and lounges where you chill or get wild or toggle between the two.

You've got four nosheries with scrumptious cuisine and settings.

Dive into aqua aerobics for the exercise thing, or water polo for the competition thing.

In addition to snorkeling, there's parasailing, motor boating, or Hobie catting (is that a word?).

You can play shuffleboard and tennis, but if you want a smaller court, there's always ping pong.

There's volleyball to enjoy, but if you want near zero physical movement, there's Spanish lessons.

Melia Cozumel Golf - All-Inclusive Golf, Grub & Beach Greatness

In addition to being All About Golf (which we love), this lovely escape-haven was seemingly designed for all you fair-skinned beach goers because there's nearly a palapa around every palm. A fab place for families, there's a super fun kids' club (Kid's Co), but also, an adults-only pool for those times when separating from your little darlings would be best for everyone. Here's a ginormous plus: the world's second largest coral reef is close by and where you can descend into the deep blue for unmatched electrically colorful fish and other sea life. Finally, the food, drinks, scenery and spa are more than delicious. Was that a "yes, please," we heard? Thought so.

At Melia, the memories begin when you arrive.
