Very Relaxing, great food

We booked a short trip for our honeymoon to this resort. Among the many resorts in the area, this one stuck out due to its eco focus, and its on-site greenhouse. We appreciated that they sourced much of their produce nearby. Upon arrival, we were greeted by very friendly staff, and had no issues checking in. We quickly made our way to the pool, which was our favorite afternoon destination. The beach was very nice, and finding chairs was not too difficult either. Seaweed was not very bad, though it was a little rocky in the ocean. We made a point of eating in a different restaurant for each meal we were there, and especially liked La Isla and Jojos. All in all, we really enjoyed our trip, and would recommend this resort to others.

El Dorado Royale

Resort was very clean and pretty but understaffed. Service was slow in all restaurants but food was above average for an all-inclusive resort. More bartenders were needed at the main pool. Upgrading to the casitas was well worth the money; room was nicer and we had a private pool with a bartender which eased our frustration with the main pool.

Needs improvement

I've never been treated like such and inconvenience. If it rains they don't want to provide room service. I guess it's better for the guest to Get wet. They forced our group to take the last reservations for dinner and then would rush our 10 person group to order because they want to close the kitchen. Then they would close the bar before we had even finished our meals. The food isn't gourmet... they served a time piece of Lobster in a bisque that taste like it had been reheated and scorched. If your a vegetarian there is little lunch and Dinner options unless you want to pay an upgrade. I will never return!

MUY EXELENTE

My wife and I just got back from six nights at the El Dorado Royale and would love to share our experiences. First, great employees, great accommodations, great pools, great views, and great food. There were a wide variety of guests at the resort from UK, US, other countries and a wide range of ages. There were newly weds, but my wife and I celebrating 22 years did not feel out of place with a large age spread of the guests. Hard to know the best way to share the positives, opportunities, and provide tips so will break it down by category. Facility: Absolutely beatify grounds which employees took great pride in and kept it looking great. Restaurant, pool, and all areas we came into contact with looked great and were very well maintained. Pools were large, frequent, and very nice. TIP: Get out early and grab your locations as they fill up. We didn't have any trouble if I had something out by 8 or so. Service: All employees were very friendly with an minimum of Hola when they passed. All very accommodating to help in anyway and any request we had. I would suggest that in several restaurants that one more server was needed with occasional water and drinks needing filled but our server working hard to keep up. BIG TIP: See your personal concierge, which is located behind your rooms. We didn't see them until our second day. They were a huge help with dinner reservations (only need them at 2), spa, even have different types of pillows to choice from, and answered any questions we had. See them your first day. Rooms: We had the standard suite with no swim out. I believe that is the only difference. After seeing the swim outs, unless you know your neighbors we decided we would rather not have them.Big shower, big bed, large soaking tub, large closets, safe for any valuables, stocked fridge that they will personalize with more or less of things at request. Our location was great as it was close to the lobby and the main pool. The only negative on the location was our room in the middle was closer to the walkway, which has golf carts and on just one night "excited" and a loud group and wake me about 1. The only other opportunity with the room was around the AC, it worked which was great, but the light was bright and it blew directly on the bed which hit us in the face. Entertainment: Mexican fiesta on Tuesday night was fun with entertainment and great food. Live music nightly on the main stage and also music at the small stage at JoJos bar area. We preferred the music at the small stage so ask what is going on that stage as it's not as well posted. Restaurants: One of the things that attracted us to this location was the number of restaurants that were available and we were not disappointed. Mexican fiesta food was great on Tuesday night, we had lunch and breakfast at La Isla, which was right next to the main pool and had great food as well as some of the best service of our trip. Make reservations and go to Fuentes (its a food show and worth the night) and Santa Fe Grill. I also highly recommend Kampai, we had lunch and dinner one day and enjoyed both. They have Sushi only at night and it was good stuff also. I had both curry dishes, shrimp and lamb and recommend both. We didn't eat at the Italian restaurants but heard good things on both. We had lunch at JoJos, the full fish was good but the pasta dish my wife had was our most disappointing meal. I would also not got the mexican restaurant next time as it was good but not exceptional as most of the food was.We did eat breakfast at Cocotal which is the only buffet style restaurant which you can also order off of a menu. Breakfast was good and it's the first to open at 6:30. Be sure to include tips in your plan as the service is great and tipping is encouraged but not required. While this is an adult only, it's not a bunch of drunks everywhere. There is drinking and a few hitting it hard but not to the point is was uncomfortable and over the top. Also recommend going off site. We hit tulum for a morning trip and very glad we did. Good to get introduced to the Mayan culture and see the ruins. Booked on site, which I recommend as it was cheaper with the AmStar group. We also spent a evening in Playa de Carmen which has lots of shops and restaurants. We would go earlier than the bus normally does so we could spend more time and eat a better dinner. Enjoy the shopping, barter with the locals, and don't believe them when they know you from the hotel. For anything off site, I'd shop around as the lobby has only one options connected to the resort, but just around the front corner is several to choice from. Enjoy your trip and experience Mexico.

Hotel Description

El Dorado Royale a Gourmet Inclusive Resort, by Karisma: All-Inclusive Heaven

Ignite a new flame or rekindle your romance along the sugary shores of Playa del Carmen at El Dorado Royale, a Gourmet Inclusive Resort by Karisma. Voted one of Conde Nast Traveler Readers' "Top 100 Hotels in the World," this adult-only retreat offers a gourmet all-inclusive plan that pampers your palate while you swim in AAA Four Diamond luxury.

Stroll hand in hand with your sweetheart along the resort's secluded sands or get the wedding party together for a swim in the resort's natural, saltwater pool. Looking to achieve the perfect bronze for your wedding? Surrender to the sizzling Mexican sun on a lounger or slide into one of the resort's 12 freshwater pools and make your way to a swim-up bar for a cocktail... and since there are 11 in-pool bars, chances are you won't have to float very far.

Eight gourmet restaurants and snack bars tempt your taste buds with selections like the lobster lasagna from five-star D'Italia, fondue with a view from La Fondue and the Pacific Rim cuisine of Kampai. For a unique show with your meal, head to Fuentes-Culinary Theatre, where flat-screens give guests an inside view of the work of Michelin-trained chefs. When twilight beckons, grab your honeymoon-heartthrob and nestle into a swinging chair with a drink for live music at Las Guacamayas, or sip premium martinis at the stylish Martini Bar. If you're looking for more, there's always a 20-minute cab ride to the heart of Cancun's nightlife.

Before tying the knot at the resort's stunning, beachfront wedding chapel, do away with any pre-vow jitters with a body scrub and a beachfront sky massage in a palapa overlooking the Caribbean. While you're there, take a lesson from the pros, who'll teach you how to give your spouse-to-be a massage when you get back to your Infinity Pool Swim-up Casita Suite. The suite has a private plunge pool that leads to the lazy river, a jetted tub and exclusive perks; we wouldn't blame you if you never left your room. But when you do, be assured paradise is waiting.
