Not to visit again

I am n my 70s and have never written a review till now. The property itself is very large and very beautiful. After that forget it. Beach full of seaweed for 1st 6 days ( not their fault) but beach not great as large homemade stones are all the way across beach front eliminating a nice view. Many nice bars but worst margaritas I have ever had as they use a mix which is worst than we can get n the states. When I go to Mexico I want a real margarita. Management has no direction, we are told reservations are 2 b made for 2 of restaurants, others are first come. 2sd night we went 2 Mexican restaurant & told we need reservations ??. Next day we go 2 concierge & make reservations. We show up on time & they say we don’t have reservations, manager says forget it, we then go 2 another place & they closed for private party, calendar says they should b open , go 2 next place 2 hour wait. Food at all places r bland, at one place meat so tough we could not chew it. They have tons of pools & beach front but we were told there was only one place we could get a towel (what). I could go on but not worth the effort.. I think u know our feelings. Not returning

Terrible Experience

The resort is known for its food. I guess that's the food you must pay for on the second menu they provide...the not inclusive part...smh. The main pool is small with not enough chairs for a MAIN pool. We were getting up at 530a to get chairs and even that was challenge. They have 2 bartenders at the main pool bar that were always miserable, how dare we bother them for a beverage! Fortunately we were able to use the pool in the casitas, much better service! The restaurant situation is a mess. My recommendation is make reservations BEFORE you get there, otherwise its hours for half decent food and slow service, if they're even open at all! The room wasn't bad, nice size and super comfy bed. The 2 palms is more for the inability to properly stock a fridge with the requested drinks. We did get chips 2 out of the 8 days we were there though! The seaweed.....OMG! I understand you can't control the seaweed issue but the SMELL in main parts of the resort was too much to handle most days/nights. This limited our nightly events because it truly was unbearable. Forget laying on the beach! We were there for a friends wedding, I won't even get into all the issues they had...definitely wouldn't recommended for a wedding! I'm generally easy to please but this resort was horrible. It boasts on all the pools and bars they have. Keep in mind, if you're staying in El Dorado, you technically can't use the majority of them. The restaurants are all over the place, some hard to even find due to poor signage. Then you find them and they're closed?! You get a weekly itinerary from the concierge advising what's open, takes reservations, etc. but I felt like they do what they want. Lastly, you're at an all inclusive resort. You're drinking, lounging (hopefully) by the pool..you want a little something to munch on, to keep your alcohol intake in check. Good luck with that! You must go to a restaurant, wait 45-60 mins to be seated with another 45-60 mins to get food. You then say, I'll just go back and get room service. While that was always 25-60 mins, it also wasn't worth the wait. No worries though, your dishes would be outside your door all day, sometimes you'd see them on the way out in the am! My long story short....find another resort!

Excellent staff and great resort

We attending this resort for a wedding. Everything about this resort was great except for 2 things. 1. The beaches were covered in an enormous amount of seaweed. I have never seen anything like it before in my life. There was no swimming in the ocean. 2. We had a ground level room, we woke up the first morning to find that our floor was covered in condensation which almost made my husband slip. I also had a slip and fall in our room because of this during our week at the resort. I must say, the food, drinks and pools were top notch! I would return. The staff was amazing. Especially our concierge Jaquelin and Jacob. They took care of everything we needed.

A great getaway

This was a quick vacation for us and our first time at El Dorado Royale, and we were not disappointed. The grounds are just beautiful and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Check-in for us was quick and easy. We didn't know about a small additional charge per guest, but it isn't much different that some other places we have stayed. We just thought that our purchase on Cheap Caribbean covered all of that already. Our room was nice and clean and was close to the Fuentes pool, so that is where we chose to spend most of our time during the day. There is a beach, but it had quite a few rocks in the water, and the waves were pretty rough during the time we were there. There are also large structures added to the water that many others have mentioned in reviews. Actually, we preferred the pool on this trip, because there was quite a bit of wind as well. The Fuentes pool is salt-water, so it felt cool and refreshing, and it was never super crowded. We easily got chairs when we went down around 9:30 in the morning. There was also a swim-up bar and a staff person that came around the pool to get orders. The food we had was great. Our stay was only 4 days, 3 nights, but we will stay longer when we go again. We ate at JoJos for lunch, and it was pretty good, but our favorite lunch place was The Spot. It was near a pool with a swim up bar and was near Fuentes pool, so it was easy for us to walk up there. They offered a small buffet with salads, breads, crostinis, meat and cheese plates, chicken, pork, and pasta. They also had some amazing little desserts on the buffet. Breakfast for us was at El Cocotal, which had a great buffet with tons of fresh options. Service was quick and the place is large, so any wait was always very short. My wife loved the cappuccinos. Our first night, we went to Kampai and LOVED it. Our waiter, Humberto, was wonderful. We ordered spring rolls, Thai rolls, California roll, beef stir-fry and a chicken and udon noodle entree. We also had a bottle of sake to go with it all. Dessert was good, but the coffee stole the show for my wife. On our second evening, we did dinner on the beach (extra charge). The food was all amazing, again. We didn't try any of the up-sell items, like the lobster or wine. There was plenty of food without adding any items. For our final dinner, we went to the Mexican restaurant. We got there around 7:30 and had to wait about 45 minutes for a table. In the future, we'll make reservations if we plan to eat later in the evening to avoid this, but we didn't know how busy things would be at that time. We often like to eat around 6:30, so that's probably why we got into Kampai with no waiting. We tried to get reservations for Fuentes dinner show and D'Italia Casitas while we were there, but they booked up several days in advance. In the future, we'll reserve those spots when we first arrive. The only other thing we tried was the tequila tasting the hotel offers for free every day. We got some interesting information about tequila and it's production, and we were able to sample some really good ones. While we didn't purchase anything, there wasn't a ton of pressure to do so. We did find two kinds that we liked and will look for the next time we are in Mexico. This was a short, but very enjoyable trip for us. We enjoyed all the walking and gorgeous scenery, but those with mobility issues can easily grab shuttles/rides while on the resort. All the pool options and different activities offered by the resort were also appreciated. It was easy for us to find a crowd we enjoyed. This trip was relaxing, and we felt spoiled with great food, company, and service during our stay. Check-out was quick, and we had help with our bags and a ride to the lobby. We will return to the El Dorado Royale again.

El Dorado Royale a Gourmet Inclusive Resort, by Karisma: All-Inclusive Heaven

Ignite a new flame or rekindle your romance along the sugary shores of Playa del Carmen at El Dorado Royale, a Gourmet Inclusive Resort by Karisma. Voted one of Conde Nast Traveler Readers' "Top 100 Hotels in the World," this adult-only retreat offers a gourmet all-inclusive plan that pampers your palate while you swim in AAA Four Diamond luxury.

Stroll hand in hand with your sweetheart along the resort's secluded sands or get the wedding party together for a swim in the resort's natural, saltwater pool. Looking to achieve the perfect bronze for your wedding? Surrender to the sizzling Mexican sun on a lounger or slide into one of the resort's 12 freshwater pools and make your way to a swim-up bar for a cocktail... and since there are 11 in-pool bars, chances are you won't have to float very far.

Eight gourmet restaurants and snack bars tempt your taste buds with selections like the lobster lasagna from five-star D'Italia, fondue with a view from La Fondue and the Pacific Rim cuisine of Kampai. For a unique show with your meal, head to Fuentes-Culinary Theatre, where flat-screens give guests an inside view of the work of Michelin-trained chefs. When twilight beckons, grab your honeymoon-heartthrob and nestle into a swinging chair with a drink for live music at Las Guacamayas, or sip premium martinis at the stylish Martini Bar. If you're looking for more, there's always a 20-minute cab ride to the heart of Cancun's nightlife.

Before tying the knot at the resort's stunning, beachfront wedding chapel, do away with any pre-vow jitters with a body scrub and a beachfront sky massage in a palapa overlooking the Caribbean. While you're there, take a lesson from the pros, who'll teach you how to give your spouse-to-be a massage when you get back to your Infinity Pool Swim-up Casita Suite. The suite has a private plunge pool that leads to the lazy river, a jetted tub and exclusive perks; we wouldn't blame you if you never left your room. But when you do, be assured paradise is waiting.
