Wonderful Trip

We spent 6 nights at the Casita Royale and we wish would have been able to stay longer. It was an amazing trip. The room, the staff, the food was all top notch. Would like to call out May & Diego. They provided excellent service as our pool bartender and butler. The Mexican Fiesta is beyond anything I have seen before. Typically, these things involve some music and a bit food but this is over the top and in a good way. There was not only the typical things such as beans, tacos, chips etc, there was whole roasted pig, fresh made chorizo, smoked/grilled chicken, prawns the size of man's hand and even scorpions and centipedes. Was a sight to see! Would encourage anyone who stays here to go on the Greenhouse and Bonanza Ranch tours. The idea that the greenhouses on this property grow all do the fruits and vegetables for the 14 Karisma resorts, is truly outstanding. We love this idea of how self sustaining this resort is. It was also heartwarming to see the rescue animals on the on property Bonanza ranch. The only downside is the beach. It isn't a pretty beach especially with the concrete objects near the beach. However, these objects are part of the resort's action to build an artificial reef so with that in mind, you can look beyond them. We will definitely be returning to this resort!

Beautiful Resort and Excellent Customer Service

first time here - came for my friend's wedding. we were upgraded to a swim up casita and it was beautiful! loved the outdoor shower and jacuzzi in the room. the property is immaculate and I love that the restaurants encourage everyone to use hand sanitizer upon arriving. the best part was the customer service - EVERY employee says "hola" upon encountering you and all were extremely helpful with directions and recommendations. the only negative in my opinion was that this resort really didn't have a beach for swimming - very rocky. but the salt water pool and all the regular pools were very nice. The Casitas portion, although nicer, definitely had older adults (50+). if you're looking for a little more action (without it being too crazy), I would consider staying on the regular El Dorado Royale side of the resort. overall, amazing time and memories.

Not what we expected

We have used Cheap Carribean and been to Mexico multiple times in the past. This trip was for my 50th birthday, so we booked what we thought was a very nice resort. It was 1.5-2 times more expensive than previous trips. Bottom line, it wasn't worth the price tag. Here are some complaints: - the airport driver took us to the wrong resort, as in 1 hour away (a 2-hour round trip waste of time on a short 4-day vacation) - the coffee was terrible, yes there is a Starbucks onsite, but at almost $1,000 a day one would hope for better included coffee - when we checked in there was a dirty room service tray with dishes, glasses, 1/2 eaten food in our room - one leg to the bed was broken and in the middle of the room when we checked in, it wasn't fixed properly and the leg kept falling off during our stay - the room smelled very musty, we asked to change but were ignored - the room was 100% in the shade, no view except of the back of the bar, and had no screens on doors or windows to air it out - the room was incredibly dark, couldn't read - no service on beach cabana one day and poor, slow service on other days - the spa personnel pestered us multiple times on multiple days to buy services - many restaurants and bars were indoors with way too cold air conditioning. So we were limited to 2 outdoor dining options. - could not locate any hot tubs on property To be fair, we really did like the following: - Smoothie bar, healthy and fresh breakfast options - morning yoga on the pier - Bloody Mary bar at Spot restaurant for breakfast - Jojos restaurant, outside and server Jorge - outdoor shower in room - turtle sanctuary - cat casitas with resident healthy cats

Highly Recommend

We have stayed at 4-5 resorts in Mexico and this was by far the best! We will be coming back! The service was excellent, the staff wonderful, and the resort was beautiful. The food was fantastic, but I will say it was a bit like "Tapas Cuisine" when it came to portions. One place served deserts in shot glasses, my advise order 4-5 shots! Wonderful food, just small in portions. There staff was excellent all over. We will be back on our next trip to Mexico.

Hotel Description

El Dorado Casitas Royale a Gourmet Inclusive Resort, by Karisma: True Luxury in Paradise

Take in the AAA Four Diamond luxury in the lush, secluded section of this expansive paradise nestled along the sugary shores of Playa del Carmen at El Dorado Casitas Royale, a Spa Resort by Karisma. Voted one of Conde Nast Traveler Readers' "Top 100 Hotels in the World," this adult-only retreat offers an unparalleled luxurious experience that caters to your every need from the moment you step on the property.

Stroll hand in hand with your sweetheart along the resort's secluded sands or get the wedding party together for a swim in the resort's natural, saltwater pool. Looking to achieve the perfect bronze for your wedding? Surrender to the sizzling Mexican sun on a lounger or slide into one of the resort's 12 freshwater pools and make your way to a swim-up bar for a cocktail... and since there are 11 in-pool bars, chances are you won't have to float very far.

Eight gourmet restaurants and snack bars tempt your taste buds with selections like the lobster lasagna from five-star D'Italia, fondue with a view from La Fondue and the Pacific Rim cuisine of Kampai. For a unique show with your meal, head to Fuentes-Culinary Theatre, where flat-screens give guests an inside view of the work of Michelin-trained chefs. When twilight beckons, grab your honeymoon-heartthrob and nestle into a swinging chair with a drink for live music at Las Guacamayas, or sip premium martinis at the stylish Martini Bar. If you're looking for more, there's always a 20-minute cab ride to the heart of Cancun's nightlife.

Before tying the knot at the resort's stunning, beachfront wedding chapel, do away with any pre-vow jitters with a body scrub and a beachfront sky massage in a palapa overlooking the Caribbean. While you're there, take a lesson from the pros, who'll teach you how to give your spouse-to-be a massage when you get back to your Infinity Pool Swim-up Casita Suite. The suite has a private plunge pool that leads to the lazy river, a jetted tub and exclusive perks; we wouldn't blame you if you never left your room. But when you do, be assured paradise is waiting.
