  My future happy place

  When picking a resort in puerto plata I was always impressed by blue bay villas because of its small and quaint description on line. However I always chose a larger brand name resort. This time in puerto plata I did stroll the beach with my friend and found the blue bay resort! A gentleman at the resort, Carlos, graciously gave us a tour and this resort turned out to be an authentic oasis away from the hubbub on the beach. It offers most of the amenities of the larger resorts but with a more mature atmosphere. It is definitely on my bucket list for our next trip. Thank you Blue Bay for allowing Carlos to show us your little paradise!

  Vacation

  So at first the hotel got pretty nice localisation, beach is wide and clean. Planty of different bars, drinks done properlly, not diluted ones, tasty. About the entertaintment crew was doing great, lot's of games, beach volleyball, competitons etc. throughout whole day till 10 p.m

  Horrible Experience

  When we tried to leave the hotel, we found out that they will not allow Uber drivers so that guests are forced to use the taxis that líne up outside or their personal transportation. Well those cost 35-50 dollars versus $5 for an Uber. When we checked out, my husband and I walked across the street off the hotel property and ordered an Uber. When our driver showed up, two taxi drivers started yelling at him and us and LITERALLY blocked our driver in with their two taxis and refused to let us leave. It wasnt until we said that we were calling the police did they allow us to leave! Shame on this hotel for allowing this! Safety should be first!

  This resort should be reviewed / inspected. It is overall a 3 star

  Hotel Structure / Room - 1 Star The first room AC and ventilation was not working. We requested a second room, however the AC was also leaking. We had maintenance come and check it out, and they ended up putting a towel and mat up in the vent to catch any water. Not sure if this was or not, it did stop the leaking but the ceiling was hanging due to the weight of the vent. The security box was not working, in both rooms. Maintenance came twice to try and fix it but it appeared to be a battery issue. We did not end up using the box since our stuff would potentially get stuck in the box and they wouldn’t be able to open it. The walls were very thin, you could hear conversations and even sneezing in the room next door, up above, or below. No hanging space in the room to dry clothes. The balcony did not help since it was so humid (not complaining about the weather, the heat was perfect!). But there should be somewhere in the room or simple hooks on the wall for towels or bathing suit. Bathrooms in the rooms also had no ventilation. This caused mold / water residue build up. The overall structure of the resort and buildings are very dated, mold was in the rooms and bathrooms, some rot near the pools. Service / Cleaning - 3 Stars Great group of workers, staff, etc. Our room was not cleaned one day, no towels, no water restocked sometimes, so we would have to call the front desk to request it. Maintenance staff didn’t speak English, hard to communicate, but not a major issue. Time Share Staff were very pushy, and do not leave you alone even when you politely tell them no thank you multiple times. They will follow you around as well. Food / Drink - 3.5 Stars Food was excellent, chefs worked hard and served amazing food. Alcohol was basic, if you wanted anything brand name (even Brugal which is their national rum) you have to pay extra. I don’t think I ever been to resort with that feature, and most drinks were watered down. Pool - 4 Stars Clean, three pools, one quiet, one chill, one for entertainment and swim up pool bar. Could use a bit more sheltered areas. Entertainment - 4.5 Stars Great group of workers! Luna and Daisy were amazing, very talented, made you feel like family. Shows were too loud and too late however, some did not start till 9:30pm. Beach - 5 Stars Clean, no seaweed, well maintained, quiet, and tons of space and seating area.
