Pass on this resort

My friends and I stayed at the Bellevue Dominican Bay Resort for 4 nights and 5 days. The ride to the resort was depressing. We were actually scared but when we arrived at the resort the barbed wired surrounding it was scary. The staff at the resort was very nice and accommodating. I was so excited to see the Caribbean sea. across from our resort. I was highly disappointed. We had to walk through a park and over a walkway bridge that connected us to the beach area. The beach itself was littered with garbage and tons of seaweed. As if that wasn't bad enough, the beggars, and vendors on the beach would not take no for an answer. They haunted you like sticky backs. My friend ventured into the water and emerged with a rash on her legs. UGH! five days of this? I think not. We went back to the hotel and met with the man selling excursions which we did not budget for as we just wanted to relax at the beach and pool. But anything to get away from this area thank you. We picked a snorkeling excursion and day at Sonoma Island. We settled into our room to await the next morning. The beds were as hard as rocks. Literally could not get comfortable. Morning and our excursion could not come quick enough. Finally day break and after eating an ok meal we were off to go snorkeling. I must say that this was a nice day. My friends and i liked it very much. The pool looked dirty, I would not go in. The few lounge chairs I tried to use were broken. The pool just might need to be drained, painted and refilled but was defiantly a turnoff. Upon returning to our room we couldn't wait to shower but the water was not hot, lukewarm at best Not only that but the shower wouldn't drain and the shower head itself would not work. They gave only 2 towels for the room and we asked for more but to no avail. We chose to go fishing and another day we went on Safari which we enjoyed very much. Overall in hindsight we would have picked a nicer resort for more money than have to do excursions to avoid the beach area of our hotel and spend more money. Tipping? We were surprised to see no one tipped. We, Americans seemed like the only ones who left money on the table after meals and for room service (although subpar). I watched after excursions and nobody but us tipped the tour guide. I would love to come back to the Dominican Republic as its people were warm and country side was beautiful, and those at the resort tried their best to make our stay nice. But spend more money and stay at a nicer resort with private beach so you don't get hounded.

Not Worth It

We read the reviews prior and figured we would take a chance since this was a last minute thing for us and a short trip. The other options seemed to require a long drive. We paid for the private shuttle. Turns out we WAY overpaid for this 15-minute trip, and there likely wouldn't have been anyone else with us anyway. We went through really broken down, dilapidated areas, again somewhat expected. You pull up to the hotel and think, "Oh man, this is pretty nice!" The reception area is great. We booked a King bed room but were told that wasn't available when we got there. We conceded and said "that's fine!" to a double queen room because we were just happy to be there. Then we got to our hotel room. Oh boy. There was NO hot water. I had to go up to reception 4 times. We had a technician out first day. He couldn't get it and just left with the water running. The next day essentially the same. We were on ground level and the sliding glass patio door didn't lock. Light fixtures were falling off the wall. The bathroom towel and toilet paper holders didn't exist. Just felt so junky. I went and made them switch our room. We had to wait until 3pm. That's fine. Then we got to the next room and the water in the tub wouldn't STOP leaking, but at least we had hot water, so we dealt. Food or beach??? Beach. The beach is a good 8-10 minute hike across a street on a private bridge. There was nice landscaping. You get there and it is a pretty view. But you quickly realize that if you go beyond this small wall down by the water you are harassed to buy various trips, clothing, and trinkets. It wouldn't have been terrible except they park their cart right in the way and block the view. To the right and left of the small beach, are shanty towns. You can't venture to them because it's not safe. We were warned by a local and took him at his word. You definitely don't go out of the hotel at night. Oh and the water had trash in it. People just littered all over! The food was probably the worst part. There is a buffet open until 9:30AM, 12pm-2pm, 7-10pm. There are 2 restaurants but you can't eat at them until 6 pm and have to make reservations in the morning the day of. The alcohol is NOT included in the all inclusive deal at these restaurants. The food at every restaurant was not good. The buffet had people walking around from stand to stand because nothing looked appetizing (I realize I am assuming here, but you can read body language.) Food at the other restaurants was nearly equally bad, but I would say a step up to give it some credit. There was more but I've gone on too long here. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. It was easily the worst trip we've taken. Thinking other spots are a lot nicer (Punta Cana or Semana). But we laughed and drank our way through it!

Bat vacation

Prior to our trip and after we already purchased the tickets my husband and I kept reading reviews rating it 3 stars or less.. however upon arrival I knew they were crazy... the people in reception were so nice and polite. They helped us carry our luggage up to our room. Like we told the staff while leaving the room are perfect since all we were going to do in them was sleep and shower, but the bathrooms could use some updating . Other than that they served there purpose and they were clean. The food was really good and they change the theme of dinner nightly... the animación cree was amazing they always interacted with the visitors they have a little night show for kids which was a plus since we traveled with our 3 year old daughter... the beach was gorgeous shallow ,warm... paradise We did the saona island excursion and Santo Domingo tour... we did it with Pedro Diaz tours and it comes at a great deal... highly recommend this place
