Amazing Vacation, Beautiful HUmble People.
OK SO I NEVER POST REVIEWS BUT WE JUST RETURNED LAST NIGHT FROM THE RESORT...WE WERE THERE FOR 5 DAYS celebrating my husband 40th birthday..so where and how do I start..from the time you walk on the property you're treated like KING and Queen (whatever applies) of the Town...They never undermine the fact that you are one of thousands at the resort. Your greeted with a smile and very firm handshake.. before you get a chance to sit down and check in your asked if you like a drink.watersports included with the price you pay for the resort..kayaking, sailing, speed boat, glass bottom boat Ride..The food in some restaurants were much better than other..Seaside grill by the pool on St James side was GREAT!!! for dinner as well as the mexican EL Tapito (?) best meal was the pork chop tender and very tasty...for breakfast at the world cafe the server Oraldo (the singing guy) and kerri Ann serenaded my husband and I with a duet for his 40th bday service was EXceptional.. I mean I can go on and on EVERYTHING was top of the line.. entertainment, grounds keeping, lighting at night, room service was even SUPERB
We were upgraded to the Wild Orchid. The Wild Orchid is right next to the St. James. I'm not sure why there are two different resorts because we were told that the rooms were identical. The Wild Orchid rooms are closer to the restaurants than the St. James resort. When checking in, they encourage you to take a tour of their Preferred Club. We declined and did not feel pressured afterwards. There is a nice variety of restaurants to choose from. The food is good but not as good as the food we had on a Caribbean cruise. The room was decorated nicely and we enjoyed using the jaccuzzi tub in the bathroom. It was our first experience at an Adult-Only resort and we met many other fun couples from all over. We vacationed at the end of April and had no trouble getting towels or chairs by the beach or pool.
Traveled there september 2011. Really one of the best all inclusive vacations ever. Friendly staff, food was great. Plenty to do on the beach. DO NOT MISS THE JERK CART ON THE BEACH. Also icey cart and fresh coconut drinks (how tropical). My trip was six nights of bliss with my husband to celebrate our anniversary. Give the spa a try not cheap but really worth it. Most resorts you will have one or two down points. I have not one complaint. I do think the preferred is worth the additional money.

Would not stay here again!
The resort was very nice, but the service was very poor. We upgraded to the Preferred Status because of the wifi. Wifi did not work for the majority of the stay. When I asked about it, I was just given the "no problem mon" attitude. Finally I had to ask to speak with a MGR. He called and the first thing he asked was "did you pay for it?!" I then spoke with the GM on day 3 of our visit. Mr. Rameriz promised all kinds of spa treatments, etc, but when it came time to check out we were billed for the services. I then had to spend more time trying to make things right. We paid a lot of money to stay at this resort and had a lot of headaches. I can't say I really relaxed because everyday there was poor services. There are way too many all inclusive resorts to chose from......pick another.
I will say that the dining options and food were great!

how was the beach? is it stunning?6 answers
is there local shopping such as street vendors so you get the jamaican feel or very commercial?

Beach is GREAT! Large, palm trees everywhere. Very good snorkeling off the pier and the north part of the complex. clean beaches, pools a few steps away. white sand. definitely some of the better beaches from what we've seen at other resorts.
Shopping- the new area has a great shopping area, and nightly themed open-air bazaars- very well done. But for the real thing, head up to Playa del Carmen (GO IN EVENING- not as hot) for great shopping a local vibe.
turtleboy
I wouldn't classify the beach at the Conrad as "stunning" but it was nice, small and a bit rocky and it was actually a lagoon.
Loly
There are some shops and tabbacco shop. There is wood carvers on the beach and on weekends are crowded with vendors on the sidewalk walking to the restaurants.
Kwood
The resort has craft folks come in on Wed night and they bring a good assortment of items. Wood carving seems to be the local craft, lots of animals and Bob Marleys. You will find better prices in Montego Bay and at the craft village if you venture off the resort. There are also shops in the resort which are nice better priced higher. Craft village had the best prices if you are good at negotiating and do not become overwhelmed by the women trying to get you into their "shops." I think the thing to remember wherever you buy is that these people have a high cost of living and they work hard. You are their source of income and if you feel you have paid a fair price then you have done well.
sandyktoo
We did not go shopping outside of the resort, but one evening local vendors were selling their items at the resort and the prices were outrageous! We ended up not buying anything! You would have to take an excursion and we didn't feel like spending an entire day shopping!

Should I bring my own snorkeling gear to Secrets St. James in Montego Bay?4 answers
Just wondering how the snorkeling is from beach access.
Cape Cod Travelers
You may want to bring your own snorkeling gear with you, as there is no snorkeling gear available on property. There is snorkeling available nearby, but that would be at an additional cost.
KristinCC
No, there was equipment there, free.
raadoe
We didn't snorkle but you could see the fish by looking down in the water. There really weren't any exotic fish and they gathered by the rocks so you can just look at them by standing up and they were really small. Other guests that wanted to snorkle went on an excursion, but we did not know how that turned out.
dmthomas
gear at the resort nothing fancy if you go on a snorkeling day trip better equipment provided.

Can someone describe the beds on the balconies? Are there beds on the beach also3 answers
I'd love to see any pictures of the beds on the balconies or beach. We stayed in a Real resort in Cancun that had the bed on the beach. It was by far our favorite thing about the resort.
Teri
There are beds on the beach & by the pool. The balconies just have plastic patio furniture, unless you are on the ground floor, which had the same ratan furniture as the upper pool deck.
emenchho
In our room we did not have any beds on our balconies. There were no beds on the beach on our side of the resort (we did not stay on the preferred side), but there was a fee to lay on one of the beds that was all the way out on the rocks overlooking the ocean.
dmthomas
No bed on the beach, but rather, the equivelant of a chaise lounge. No complaints. In the preferred suits, there are jacuzzis on the balconies with private entrance to a private pool which has a portion on your balcony. Very posh rooms.

Is this Resort for Couples or could a group of girls go for a Girls Trip??7 answers
9 months ago
Sammie
While couples do book at Secrets, any adult is welcome.
MariaCC
Yes, it is exclusively for adults only. After that, singles, couples are there and can enjoy.
Lollidol
Mostly couples were there.
Susankw
I did see some "girls get-a-ways" but mostly romantic couple atmosphere. I would not pick this for a girls gone wild weekend.
Raphael1214
there are much more couples there. But i did some groups of women there also. but i think its more for couples because everything is so romantic
steponme
I think this is definitely a couples resort. But.. I think a group of girls would still have fun. There's really only one or 2 "night life" spots, though, so it might be worth looking at some more singles-oriented resorts if you looking for a good night life.
Mollysam920
best for couples

Are there any restrictions as far as womens swimwear is concerned?2 answers
5 months ago
ed
The resort requires bathing suits to be worn on the premises and they do not allow au natural sunbathing. As far as restrictions regarding the type of swim wear that can be worn, I would say a good rule of thumb would be that as long as the important parts are covered you should be fine.
