Disappointing

I was really looking forward to this trip but found it very disappointing. First of all, the trip from airport was in an old van/minibus that was definitely not clean and seats were torn. The rooms look luxurious on the internet but ours was not what we expected. The shower door did not meet up at the bottom; the floor in adjoining commode area would be wet when you showered (leakage underneath). The air conditioner was stuck on a setting that was too cold for us and we asked twice to have someone work on it but they just called and said to increase the temp setting. That did not work and so we had to turn it off periodically. I did not realize that you had to have the jacuzzi full in order to use it (poor instructions about room when the doorman took us to the room) and so the floor was saturated. We tried to clean it up with towels and asked to send housekeeping to bring a mop etc; 45 minutes later we got a call saying there was water coming from under the door so then they sent someone. The staff was very friendly but the room was not cleaned properly, I had to get down on my hands and knees because I dropped my sunglasses and a lens popped out. Then I saw part of a pen that was left on floor under the couch. We did not use at pen so had to have been from previous guest. We wanted to go to church on Sunday and were told it would cost $20. So 3 of us planned to go. It turned out that it cost $20/person so it cost us $60 instead - plus a note in the taxi that tips were expected. Last but not least, the restaurants were really a walk from the hotel. Also, they only have 1 restaurant for breakfast so if you sleep in beware: no place to eat until noon. It is much closer if you stay at Wild Orchid, by the way, and their pool and Oceana restaurant are much better than the pool and Seaside Grill on the St. James side. It is possible that we just had a "Murphy's Law" trip. When one thing goes wrong, it all goes wrong. Our friends also came and they bought into the package they offer (rather expensive) that they want you to buy so you have discounts on subsequent trips. We don't like the hard sell ourselves so just be forewarned.

Beautiful Property

Everything was lovely. Because of the weather the room was so muggy and the conditioner temp was controlled at a certain temp so it was either very cold or very muggy. Lovely beach, lots of the water sports were free i.e. kayaking, water sailing, paddleboard was included

Very restful and perfectly located for a memorable

I can't say enough about how wonderful this resort is!!! I was a bit worried after reading the teview left by the bridezilla but it could not have been further from the truth! The resort was lovely, the food was wonderful, especially the Saturday night seafood buffet at the World Cafe, the staff was attentive. Even room service was prompt and generous!! Don't miss the jerk chicken guy or the coconut guy!! My husband, who is more sensitive than I am, had nothing but good things to say!! Housekeeping was amazing! We would leave our room for the gym and return about an hour or so later, and our room was already made up! I travel for a living and it is very rare to come across such service! We are definitely coming back here!

Good Infrastructure, Bad Food and Service

The rooms are great. Really nice bathroom. Beds are comfortable. Cleaning ladies do a good job. The beach is amazing. There is a reef like 30 ft out to snorkel if you bring your own gear. The pool looked nice but I spent all my time in the ocean. The hot tubes were all cold except one that was a very far walk. The grounds are really well kept and there are peacocks with babies. Also, we had fun at the club one night, but there was no late night food except room service and we didn't want to wait an hour plus. The food is gross and scarce, The only good things were the jerk chicken, patties, and hibachi, with the hibachi not being up to US standards. The French and Italian were bad. I got food poisoning at the Italian. Many of the servers were rude. When the servers were polite and smiled - we felt shocked. The only place with friendly service all around was the hibachi. One example is that my husband wanted a diet coke at breakfast. We had to ask 5 people, before one brought one. Two of those people lied to us to get out of bringing it. One suggesting there was a soda fountain in the buffet, while the other said they didn't have diet coke, which were both clearly lies. Most people seemed angry to do anything for you, regardless of tip. Overall, we still had a good time. The beach and the rooms are nice and that's all you need. But, if you are looking for Jamaican hospitality, don't go here.

What's to Love

Being greeted with sparkling adult beverages and cool towels - a fab treat after enduring the perils (and people) of travel.

Suites in British Colonial decor (luscious cream and warm woods) with epic views of endless teal.

The quiet half-mile, sugar-sand beach with thatched-roof palapas and cushy cabanas.

Oh-so comfy rooms with soft, white robes & slippers, luxury bath amenities, and a Jacuzzi tub. Delicious.

Secrets box for private room service delivery - you don't ever have to see a human if you don't want to.

Melting into stress-smashing treatments like an Aromatherapy Massage and Seaweed Wrap.

Butler phones booked through the Preferred Club - these humans will draw your bath, bring you a coffee, you name it.

Play tennis or bocce ball. Take dance lessons or Euro-Bungee (you're a human slingshot, but it's fun).

What We'd Change

Some of the restaurants have dress codes, so pack some dressier frocks. Or, enjoy the outside seating options for a more casual night.

Why You Should Go

Only 25 minutes from the airport so you'll be at the resort before you can say "Irie Mon." (It means you're doing well).

Upgrade to the Preferred Club, get better rooms with a pillow menu, afternoon hot and cold hors d'oeuvres and more.

Some of the restaurants have dress codes so make sure you bring your gussied-up duds.

The resort brings in local artisans to display their wares that include beautiful wood carved objets d' art.

Five golf courses are near, one of which is the famed White Witch Golf Course. Pretend you're playing Tiger.

Get wild and watery with all the water sports: kayaking, scuba, Hobie cats and more.

A half hour of snorkeling is FREE!

The wedding/honeymoon packages with wine, fresh flowers and champagne breakfast in bed. Plus a 15% discount on spa treatments.
