Fantastic Time, Great Value

First off, very nice entrance into the resort as well as easy check in. The associates did not get too pushy for purchasing excursions. Rooms are a bit outdated, but no real complaints. Fantastic pools, great beach access (a bit rocky, but not bad), pretty good food. Definitely will be going back!!!

Not what I expected

I was very dissatisfied with the way they hounded & hounded you to purchase the "rewards" program they offered, which required you to bring a credit card! Ha. Never heard of a rewards program that required you to pay! They even went as far as to call me at 8:00 am after I had told the woman I had been up since 2:30 am the night before and would NOT meet her at 8:30am! The food was mediocre at best. The buffet was continuously out of food and had very limited options. The shows they offered were very nice but ended way to early. The remainder of the night life basically consisted of 1 bar, at which you could sit, and a disco. We walked to the sister resort & found a nice bar next to the beach but was shocked at the dirtiness of the glasses they used. Numerous times I had to request a new glass because of lipstick etc. I then paid special attention to the way they "washed" them & was horrified! They basically rinsed them! But if you are interested in snorkeling, the snorkeling off the beach was fantastic!

Excellent Vacation with Friends!

Seven of us just got back from 5 days at Secrets Aura Cozumel. I had been reading reviews prior to the trip, and I'll admit, I was a bit nervous -- but we had a WONDERFUL time. :) From the moment we arrived and received our complimentary glass of champagne and cool towels (which smelled AMAZING!), we knew we had picked a great place. What we loved: POOLS -- Incredible! There are 4 pools in all. Two are "preferred", a small one in front of the lobby and a smaller one with a swim-up bar near the beach. The two best pools, however, are open to everybody. They're the "Manatees Pool" with a swim-up bar and waterslides, and the "Lazy River" pool, that's not really a lazy river, but a pool that wraps around and is beautiful with a bar, "Barefoot Grill" right beside it. People would come around and take your food/drink order while inside the Lazy River pool, so you didn't really miss out on the swim-up bar there. I will say that I thought the preferred pool with a swim-up bar was actually a lot more crowded than the non-preferreds! The water was also VERY hot in the preferred pool, so not very pleasant this time of year. BEACH -- GORGEOUS. I can't imagine anyone complaining about the beach here, aside from a few rocks right where you enter. Once you get past the rocks, though, the water is clear and the bottom is sandy. It's perfect for swimming and for snorkeling. The snorkeling is AMAZING directly under the Secrets pier, where all the fish seem to hide out. We saw some rays, starfish, and all kinds of gorgeous tropical fish just feet from the hotel. Again, you may want to bring some water shoes for getting in and getting out, but other than that, it's perfect. Make sure to take advantage of the free snorkel gear at the small dive shop on the beach. FOOD & DRINK -- I had seen a number of complaints about the food, but we were actually pleasantly surprised. Keep in mind it's not all mind-blowing, but for the price we paid through Cheap Caribbean for this trip, we thought it was great quality. The two standout restaurants are the French (Bordeaux) and the new sushi restaurant (Gohan). We also enjoyed breakfast and mimosas each morning at Market Cafe. Drinks were great, with plenty of Mexican beer (Dos XX light and dark, Sol, Tecate...), house wine, and cocktails. Our favorite cocktails were the Banana Mama, Dirty Monkey, Hummingbird -- and by far, the Caipirinha, SO refreshing! If you bring your own Bubba keg or tumbler to keep your drink cold, they'll refill it all the way up to the top, which is nice. :) GROUNDS -- Gorgeous! I thought the place was very well-kept. Never saw any trash, but did see plenty of iguanas and tropical trees and flowers. I would highly recommend the "Sky Bar" -- where you can go and enjoy drinks and sushi with a SPECTACULAR view of the sunset. I believe it is open from 5pm-10pm. Not to be missed! Other comments; The staff is very friendly and efficient. We especially loved Vicky, the waitress by the beach. Our rooms were cleaned well each day and our mini fridge was always restocked. As for the rooms -- our room (Junior Suite Pool View) was a bit dated and bland, but still very clean and comfortable. Our friends got upgraded to the Preferred Section, and the rooms are definitely a lot more updated there. Aside from the rooms, though, I don't really feel like it's worth it to upgrade to Preferred, especially if it's going to cost you a lot extra. We got all the same food, drinks, etc., and the people who had paid for preferred were actually at the non-preferred pools most of the time! Yes, the "sewage" or "sulfur" smell you hear people complain about is definitely present, but I think that has a lot to do with how hot it is in August -- SUPER hot. And while unpleasant in some places, it didn't take away from our vacation. :) In the end, I would definitely recommend this resort -- especially for a family or a group of friends looking to have a nice, relaxing time. I definitely plan on coming back! :) https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g150809-d939910-r404646043-Secrets_Aura_Cozumel-Cozumel_Yucatan_Peninsula.html#

What's to Love

Newly renovated in 2015-2016, this resort is all shiny, splashy new.

The salvation of the cool towel and thirst-quenching welcome cocktail when arriving in paradise.

The sleek white, boxy architecture (very glam).

Hip suites with comfy beds that have private balconies or terraces and take-your-breath-away views.

Scuba diving at the epic Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and being awed by the fabled coral reefs.

You can take scuba lessons at the Dive House. Sweet.

The candlelight dinner for two on the beach while the purr of the waves serenades you.

Secrets box for private room service delivery - you don't ever have to see a human if you don't want to.

Snorkeling under the dock that boasts stingrays and parrot fish. (One beach lover even saw a barracuda).

The world-class spa with Seaweed Wraps, invigorating hydrotherapy and exotic indigenous treatments. Swoon.

A pier to wander out on and get hypnotized by the point where the blue water meets the azure horizon.

What We'd Change

Cozumel doesn't have as many activities as Cancun. After all, it is an island. But Secrets always has a lot of adult-only activities to keep you entertained.

Why You Should Go

You're just 20 minutes away from the airport so your rockin' vacay will start before you know it.

You're just 15 minutes away from downtown Cozumel. Just a $15 (U.S. dollars) to cab it there.

You can upgrade to Preferred Club which means better rooms, private swimming pool, and much more.

The mysteriously cool Chicen Itza and Coba Ruins are a short hop away. (Ooo-ahhh).

Lit tennis courts. Woot!

You can improve your game on an 18-hole golf course designed by the great Jack Nicklaus.

The largest beachfront in Cozumel is out back.

You can try you hand at kayaking, Hobie cats and water volleyball - don't be shy. Dive in!

Bring your aqua shoes - the beach is like finely ground seashells.

Most restaurants require men to wear long pants and no flip flops.

Probably no going shirtless or tank tops, unless you're a male Abercrombie model.
