Not to great of a Hotel

Well I don't think we will return to Secrets Aura again. The only good thing I can say is they made sure they had N/A beer for my husband. But other wise the service was not anything to write home about. If your a diver good luck with that. They do not have a dive shop they have a dive booth and could careless if you use them. We did not. So we used someone else that totally sucked anyways. Had Diarrhea almost the hole time. Over all think I'll stick with Bonaire and skip Cozumel.

Overall package

Cozumel was very beautiful. The property I feel should not be stated as a 5 star property. The rooms were nothing as they appeared in photos. Our room needed renovating. We had a leak in our bathroom and when we complained they took forever to repair. The bathroom from the room above us was leaking all over our toilitries. Our whole room smelled of sewer, we should've been offered another room, especially when the property was very empty. The beaches and we covered the whole island was beautiful. The meals at this property were excellent. They also lacked entertainment. Overall I recommend Cozumel but not this resort.

Summary of Our Stay

Wife liked lavender scented towel upon arrival Check-in was quick and easy (even for non-preferred) First room they gave us was 'the room no one wants'. Smelled funny, wasn't a suite and just oddly shaped. I don't know why hotels always try to dump their worst room on their customers. 2nd room was what we expected; when we saw the wine bottle in the room, we asked if we could swap it out for something else, at that point the guy helping us change rooms made it clear that this was somebody else's room, and we should take it as is, so we did; didn't drink the wine though. The French restaurant (I think called Bordeaux) and Oceana restaurant were very good. We didn't have a good experience at the sushi restaurant; the rice was not cooked and mushy. But, others who ate there said it was good, so we may have just hit a bad night. Oh, and it took 45 minutes to get our first sushi roll; one sushi chef servicing entire restaurant, too much for one chef to handle. The servers at the beach and pool were awesome; served drinks and appetizers, which were pretty good. The best thing for us was the ocean swimming area, it was great for snorkeling, there were rocks and coral all along the water's edge that had schools of fish and lobster. In general, Secrets employees were great.

Amazing minus waking up in a wet room

Great, friendly service. Good location if you want to be away from it all. Food is delicious, well seasoned and properly cooked. Portions on the small side, but they would probably bring more if you asked. Drinks are watered down which is probably good or else you would be too hammered to enjoy your vacation. It's all inclusive but don't forget to tip! Servers and staff really appreciate it. Only negative was that my copy of the new Harry Potter book mysteriously disappeared out of my room during a turn down service and the air conditioning/ humidity combo resulted in a room that had literal puddles on the floor and walls streaked with water in the mornings.

What's to Love

Newly renovated in 2015-2016, this resort is all shiny, splashy new.

The salvation of the cool towel and thirst-quenching welcome cocktail when arriving in paradise.

The sleek white, boxy architecture (very glam).

Hip suites with comfy beds that have private balconies or terraces and take-your-breath-away views.

Scuba diving at the epic Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and being awed by the fabled coral reefs.

You can take scuba lessons at the Dive House. Sweet.

The candlelight dinner for two on the beach while the purr of the waves serenades you.

Secrets box for private room service delivery - you don't ever have to see a human if you don't want to.

Snorkeling under the dock that boasts stingrays and parrot fish. (One beach lover even saw a barracuda).

The world-class spa with Seaweed Wraps, invigorating hydrotherapy and exotic indigenous treatments. Swoon.

A pier to wander out on and get hypnotized by the point where the blue water meets the azure horizon.

What We'd Change

Cozumel doesn't have as many activities as Cancun. After all, it is an island. But Secrets always has a lot of adult-only activities to keep you entertained.

Why You Should Go

You're just 20 minutes away from the airport so your rockin' vacay will start before you know it.

You're just 15 minutes away from downtown Cozumel. Just a $15 (U.S. dollars) to cab it there.

You can upgrade to Preferred Club which means better rooms, private swimming pool, and much more.

The mysteriously cool Chicen Itza and Coba Ruins are a short hop away. (Ooo-ahhh).

Lit tennis courts. Woot!

You can improve your game on an 18-hole golf course designed by the great Jack Nicklaus.

The largest beachfront in Cozumel is out back.

You can try you hand at kayaking, Hobie cats and water volleyball - don't be shy. Dive in!

Bring your aqua shoes - the beach is like finely ground seashells.

Most restaurants require men to wear long pants and no flip flops.

Probably no going shirtless or tank tops, unless you're a male Abercrombie model.
