Ocean Maya Royale

We choose this hotel because we were trying to keep our costs down. The weather wasn't great when we were there so that may have affected our experience. I have been to better all inclusives. Because it was a small hotel dining options were just OK. Not Ok was one restaurant where most things on the menu were an additional charge. It is too bad there are not rating options for location and entertainment. This hotel is between Cancun and Carmen del Playa which made it very convenient. We took the Tulum/Xel Ha tour which was wonderful. The entertainment at the hotel was also very good.

I thought that it was a beautiful place. Service was poor. Check in took 1 hour. Mornings I could not get a cup of coffee after 9:00am. You would have to visit the coffee shop, which always had a long line. The beach was very small and murky not like the other areas clear and clean. My room had a bad shower caulking and the water leaked all over the floor into the room. Food was excellent if you could get some. I waited 30 minutes in line to get tacos. And as far as getting a drink or beverage. It was a long wait unless you were forcefully rood. Which seemed to be the type of people that were there. I would not recommend for a family. The entertainment was pretty good I will admit I will not visit this hotel again.

The Hotel itself is great, good location to Playa and other attractions, friendly staff. It was very noisy with other vacationers when we were looking for something more peaceful and calm. The were many children which is ok if you have them.

we visited the ocean maya in Dec '08. we booked it as my 30th birthday gift . we decided to book a resort on the cheaper end because we didnt plan to spend much time in our room, rather we planned to spend our time at the pool/beach and doing day trips and activities. the ocean maya was a great choice. the grounds were small, quaint, and well kept and clean. the staff was friendly and very personable. our room was very large, bigger than rooms we have paid more than triple for in Sandals's resorts. we spent most of our days out on day trips around playa, and our nights at the resort in the restaurants, lobby bar, and seeing shows. we had a great time and would definately return to ocean maya and rebook thru cheap caribbean. our only complaint was that the beach area was smaller than we would like. however the large enough pool with swim up bar made up for it, though it was chilly in december. but that was no fault of anyones. we enjoyed the food as well. keeping in mind we have limited palettes and do not eat any seafood and are basically meat adn taters people, those expecting more exotic cuisine may feel limited but we did not at all. for a short while cheapcaribbean wasnt offering bookings at ocean maya. we are glad to see that they are once again.
