Amstar was horrible

The service from the Amstar representative at the resort was terrible. In the six day stay that I was there, he was not once to be found in the office. The porter from the airport was more help. We could not locate an Amstar Rep to schedule the excursion we had already paid for. Finally after going to the lobby in 3 hotels, I was given a choice of tomorrow or tomorrow. The Saona Island trip was better than last year, but not as good as 2 years previous. I had come to expect better after staying at the Bahia Principe La Romana where Fanny was excellent. There was no Amstar Rep in the tour operators office at our hotel and we had to look up in a book for our return to the airport. Again the bell hop was more help than the Amstar rep. I was going to take other excursions but decided not to because of the lack of service we received and therefore, did not book any additional excursions. The resort and grounds were very nice and well kept and it has a very nice beach which had beautiful views of the ocean. The snack bar at the beach offered wonderful food and lots of wait staff to get you everything you wanted while you ate watching the beach goers and the ocean waves. The bed was like a rock; very, very hard with no give whatsoever. There also weren't any outlets for today's electronic gadgets to be charged in the room and you could not set the air conditioning to another setting other than what was previously set by management. The food in the main dining hall was fairly good, however, most of the meats served were very much over cooked. The staff other than restaurant wait staff were not nearly as friendly as they were at La Romana but that could have been the result of the resort guests who were rude and inconsiderate of other guests and staff alike. The hotel is huge and you can easily get lost. Even with the map they provide you at check-in, you are prone to get easily lost if you are not familiar with the way Spanish speaking people speak or give directions.

September get-away

Bahia Principe Bavaro was a September get-away. Great resort with lots of amenities, services and nightlife. The food was good, but needed a little more selection as over the days it became repetitive. The pools were wonderful, clean and great surroundings, nice to relax. The beach, although beautiful, was way to crowded. The rooms were nice, but could not stand the smell of the sheets and towels that smelled of bleach. Altogether, we have a nice time.

Grear Hotel

Ok so it was my first time in DR and I must say I loved it, we were suppose to stay in Bavaro but the upgraded us to ambar (adults only) for free which was great, the rooms were beautiful and cleaned daily, the staff was very nice it was hard tho because mosy of the staff spoke likkle to no spanish the only thing I hate abt it you had to make reservations to eat at the restaurants but that didn't bother us much because the buffet was amasome they served a wide variety of food, fruits, pastries etc so over all it was an amazing trip I'm definitely going back next trip

Hotel Description

Feast Your Eyes on Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro Resort

A feast for the eyes, the all-inclusive Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro Resort is perched along a beautiful palm-studded seashore in the Dominican Republic. With a 1,640-ft. stretch of creamy-white sand, the world-famous Playa Bavaro is simply heaven on earth!

If you want to have a little fun, make your way through the lush greenery of the solarium gardens or paddle up to the swim-up bar in one of the resort's two glittering swimming pools to top off your tankard with a frosty rum punch.

To keep hunger at bay, take advantage of the all-inclusive plan and feast at any one of the resort's nine restaurants. With such succulent meals, your tummy will be happy enjoying a famous potato omelet at El Meson Spanish Restaurant, or fresh sushi and other entrees at Maiko Japanese Restaurant. If you want to walk on the wild side, you and the kids get your fingers messy at the BBQ Restaurant in the Olas. But if you are looking for something special, take your special someone out for innovative Italian fare at La Trattoria or play footsie under a table laden with gourmet French cuisine at Cafe De Paris. Afterwards, catch a nightcap at one of the 14 bars on-site and surrounding the resort like the hoppin' Congas Bachata Disco.

When playtime arrives, head to the aquatic center or assemble the crew for a game of bocce ball, volleyball or tennis. Putt-putt the pack around the mini golf course, or go big time on the big greens at the nearby 18-hole Punta Blanca Gold Club designed by Nick Price. Let the kids tackle the resort's mini-club, where they can participate in a mini-Olympics on the beach or bop 'til they drop at the mini-disco. For a little zen, start your day off with a yoga class and breeze into one of the spa's oceanfront gazebos for a massage or hydrotherapy treatment.

When day is done, retreat to your Jr. Suite Club Hacienda; you'll love the special perks, like the Jacuzzi in the bathroom. It's sheer bliss!
