Beautiful!

We loved the grounds and room! Everything was clean and neat. The grounds were beautifully landscaped. The staff were friendly and the free cocktail on the beach at sunset (see attached photo) was wonderful. The restaurant needs attention, though. Even though the breakfast buffet was excellent, service was slow and when we asked for a breakfast box to take on tours, we were given a ham and cheese sandwich and a banana. In the evening, we were the first to arrive for dinner and were asked to sit by the pool in the sun. We had to insist on sitting in the restaurant patio area in the shade. One other recommendation would be to provide free shuttle service to town. Just a few improvements would make this an ideal boutique hotel!

Nice facilities, quiet, not the best beach access

Private and quiet, not a huge resort full of people partying. The service was a bit mixed but overall nice people. Maid service was very good. Restaurant was over-priced and slow, but the food was good. Rooms are in pairs nestled in the trees. It was fun to see monkeys at the resort, although they can be a bit loud at night. It's a short walk through the trees to the beach. The shoreline closest to the hotel is rocky and not good for swimming. You have to walk a least a kilometer in either direction to get to an area suitable for swimming. Nice breakfast with fresh fruit, tropical juices, and made-to-order omelets. Drinks were pretty weak. Excursions were good but pretty expensive. You can go for cheaper by stopping at the taxi stand in town. The town is not far. You can walk or take a taxi for $5.

What's to Love

Surfers will rejoice to find a basecamp that doesn't skimp on luxury features like tropical wood ceilings and impeccable service. Best of all, some of Costa Rica's best waves are just a two minute walk away.

What We'd Change

There's not much nightlife on the property, and the only available bar closes at midnight. But with Tamarindo nearby, night owls can find all the action they want at nearby watering holes.

Why You Should Go

Cala Luna's luxurious hospitality has earned itself a 2013 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice pick for 'Top 25 Hotels - Central America' and 'Top 25 Hotels - Costa Rica.' If that's not a testament to its amazing service, what is?
