Average stay for an overpriced “resort”

Just got back from a 2 week stay with fiancé. First week we were in Maui at the Wailea Beach Resort (also Marriott) which was absolutely amazing, so we had high hopes for the next half of our trip on the Big Island. We were trying to decide between here and the Hilton next door and unfortunately, I feel as if we made the wrong choice. We took an afternoon to go see the Hilton and for a similar price there is significantly more offered and the grounds are just not comparable. Next time we will stay at the Hilton. On to the details… Pros: staff friendly, room was clean, pool area is nice, beach access (main reason we chose to stay here), excellent location close to Kings/Queens shops and other very nice beaches. The dinner we had at Hawaii Calls restaurant and dessert was the best we had our entire stay. The cafe staff in particular were very friendly and efficient. Get the Mac-Joy iced coffee!!☕️ Cons: daily construction directly above us beginning at 8 am lasting all day that we were NOT informed about and had we been I would’ve stayed elsewhere. Weird room design. Room is Small, nightstands located behind the bed, and between the bathroom and headboard/main room area there is a sort of paper wall shade that lights up the entire room when you turn on the bathroom light if you need to use the bathroom during the night. Shower and toilet area are not separated from sink area so you can’t get ready while your partner showers or uses the bathroom, etc. The front desk seemed to be short staffed as there was only 1 maybe 2 people at any time creating a line/long wait to check in or ask questions. Limited food options - only 1 restaurant and a breakfast cafe that closes at 11:30 so if you want to grab something quick or a coffee on your way out there aren’t any options aside from the sit down restaurant. No beach umbrellas. Birds everywhere inside the open air area which are nice but then requires tending to the area because there was bird crap I accidentally touched on the seat of the chair when trying to eat. Walls are thin, I could hear the next rooms conversation quite loudly. Didn’t seem to be enough hot water even when I showered at 11 pm one night after being out all day (which shouldn’t be a busy shower time for the hotel). Overall I think it’s an okay/average hotel but personally think it’s overpriced for what it is and doesn’t really earn the “resort” title and extra daily resort charges and self parking fees, in my opinion, when compared to other resorts in the area. The Hilton is comparatively priced and has absolutely magnificent grounds with breathtaking views, manicured lawns and sculptures, a lagoon, multiple restaurants and stores, a lunch restaurant with excellent food and views, etc. Our stay was “okay” but nothing that stood out or necessarily makes me want to stay here again.

    Very Welcoming

From the moment we arrived until we departed, the staff and service was amazing. Everyone was so kind, and helpful. The grounds were well maintained and the views were breathtaking. Behind the resort are hiking trails and a short walk to the beach. We had a room with two double beds and a partial ocean view. It was spacious and clean. Well furnished with a nice size bathroom. Beds were comfy. Housekeeping did a good job with cleaning, replenishing, and vacuuming daily. Depending on where your room is located, the walk from the elevator can be long. You can use exit doors to stairs that lead to the ground floor. Ours let out at the pool. We did lots of walking around the Waikoloa Beach area and even though it was in July we found the walks pleasant anytime of day because a good part of the walk was shaded from the trees. There was an Enterprise car rental onsite. Which is convenient for day trips or sightseeing around the island. The hotel does not provide shuttle service. We took an Uber for $28. We enjoyed drinks at the bar at Hawaii Calls while watching a beautiful sunset The Malasadas at the Aka’ula coffee shop were delicious. I had them almost every morning - lol. The resort is located directly across from Kings Shops and a short walking distance to Queen’s Shops. Both are great options for dining away from the resort and shopping for necessities during your stay. like water, sunscreen, and snacks. Resort prices can be double. There is a gift shop at the resort that is very nice and is well stocked with just about everything. We had a good time during our five night stay and would visit this resort again.

Great service, great location, great experience

Overall, the experience was phenomenal. There was a bit of an issue at check-in where we had reserved a room with a King bed but wound up in a room with two doubles. That being said, Kendall in the front was able to help us out and fix the issue. The staff was amazing through and through. I cannot recommend this place enough. Again, if there were any issues or friction points, Kendall was absolutely on it. If you are even remotely considering this place, pull the trigger. From the luau to the service everyone was on top of it. — ask for Kendall if there are issues.

Overall good, but prepare for light situation

It was an overall good stay. The hotel was a little dated and cramped. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable. The ocean view could be seen only while on the patio and included the pool area in front, but was still nice. The pool area was beautiful. The service was excellent. It was walking distance to the beach, a great restaurant- A Bays, wonderful shave ice- Gecko Girls, and shopping ( including an ABC store!) The beach was ok and had rocky sand. My main concern and something for you to prepare for is the bathroom light lights up the entire room because of the " curtained" window instead of a wall. ( It does have privacy ) You'll want to bring eye masks, and if you need a night light bring one, bc leaving the light on all night will light up the entire room.

Relax in sunshine and take in the island breeze at the pool

Beautiful resort in the Waikoloa area, definitely made for relaxation and rejuvenation. Spend a morning working out in the state of the art fitness center or going for a nice morning swim in the bay fronting the resort. Then, spend a day hanging out by one of 3 pools are at the beach. If you’re not out exploring the Big Island you can also take in some tennis or pickleball at the courts on property. There are several dining options on property or right across the street at King’s Shops. The resort is also a few minutes drive from the Waikoloa Village or a longer drive into Kona if you’re looking for more options to eat and activities. But if you just want to take a detour from life and relax with comfortable accommodations, this is a nice option for you.
