Underwhelming Experience
We were very excited to go to this resort as we read a lot of good reviews. Also, this was our first family vacation. Once we got to the resort, we were welcomed with fizzy fruit juice in a champagne glass. The check-in was seamless and quick. We got there early so we had to wait until 2 pm for our room to be ready. The front-desk staff were welcoming, super friendly and professional. The baggage assistant was quick to get our luggage to our room and had no issues. They are super fast! The welcome to the resort was great, now down to the pros and cons: CONS: -There was no elevator. You have to walk up and down three flight of stairs (depending which floor is your room). Not really user-friendly for disabled or handicapped people. Otherwise, there may be another area of the resort where they may have a ramp access. - Rooms are small. No desk, but a multi-media shelf and drawers to stow away clothes. One mini fridge, no microwave. Closets are narrow, where you put away your luggage, they're all full. Not much room to hang anything. TV channels are all in Spanish, but you can set to English and some channels will translate. -One bed had torn fitting at the foot of the bed. Didn't understand why they didn't replace it. The one chair in the room was gross and had stains. Didn't want to know what they were (ew!). -When the AC is on, from time to time, you would smell rotting garbage or sewage. It was so gross and disgusting! We had to keep the balcony door open most of the time to air it out. Sometimes it would happen at night, and disturbs our sleep. Sometimes it smells like burning rubber. The AC setting was so weird! We had to call the maintenance guy to set it properly. - Balcony was small, where it squeezes two chairs and not much room to hang dry your clothes or towels. - Washroom area had a separate sink from the toilet and shower. The shower set up was odd. There's no sliding door or curtain to keep the water out. The shower head was old and worn out. There was only one setting and no pressure. It seriously needed to be replaced. The positioning was terrible. It hung over our head like a waterfall, where you can't remove and shower properly. The water was disgusting! Don't know why their water tasted salty, like chlorine water. I didn't feel clean after showering. - Housekeeping were not consistent in their stocking, especially towels. They would either stock two big towels or none. Barely gave small hand or face towels. I had to call guest services for two more big towel and small towels. They said only give big towels, which was strange. The soap and shampoo they provide is watery and cheap. The same hand soap in the washrooms are the same the one in the shower. No other toiletries they provide (shower cap, lotion, mouthwash, bar soap, etc). - Restaurants - let's start with Bamboo (Asian). Food was tasteless and bland. Could have been better. We didn't even start the main and had to leave. Another restaurant is Il Paco (Italian). First off, it was so hot in there and no AC! The wait staff looked confused and each one is overlapping tasks and looked like there was no proper execution of duties. It wasn't even busy and not sure why they looked "busy'. Food was ok. Service was super slow that we almost fell asleep! Do yourself a favour and just hit the buffet restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food is 100% better. - Not much activities for kids. It's a bit boring actually. The Kids Club was meh. My child did not bother participating. The weird thing was parents would leave their kids there for hours! It's not a baby-sitting service nor I trust leaving my child somewhere unfamiliar. They have a kiddie pool and tiny play area at the backyard. There's no waterpark at the resort, just to put it out there. - The beach is filthy with seaweeds and were all brown and washed up on the shore. Too many beach chairs, no umbrellas. PROS: - Staff were friendly and helpful - Go to Cafe Jaguar or the Bar Mexicalli for cappucino or espresso. So delicious and served mini pastries. - Buffet restaurant had the best food. So much variety! Each day, they change up some food items for lunch and dinner. They also had themed nights. - The resort had a Mexican celebration night with decorated buffet restaurant and out in the centre court, had a Mariachi band, a market with various vendors selling handicrafts, clothing etc., a tequila tasting bar, and a taco station. It was quite fun! - There's a painting station outside by the cafe and bar area. The guy running the station is super nice! You can purchase an item to paint and he glazes it. Turnaround time for pickup is fast! Great activity for any age! -There's a ping pong table and they hold Bingo games daily. - Really enjoyed the snack bar where it's opened 24 hours with small bites or in-between munchies. Overall, it was an okay vacation. People seemed to really love this resort, but everyone's standards and experiences are different. It wasn't something for us. The resort could have put in more effort in their services, food and activities. Don't know why this is rated 4 - 4.5 stars. This resort was not near a 4 star quality in my opinion. I've been to resorts where they went above and beyond their services, exceptional food and entertainment. This resort was average. They have a lot of improvements to make.

Pleasant stay, kind staff
We really appreciated that the hotel has a lot of shade available in both the plaza and on the beach, and that there many beach beds so there is no rush to find one early in the morning. Unless you are on the ground floor, the balcony is quite narrow to the point that no chair can fit and there is only standing space. However, it is still possible to dry clothes on the balcony as there is a portable rack in the bedroom that is small enough to fit on the balcony. It was a special experience dancing with the professional hotel dancers following their evening show whenever an after-party took place, although it wasn't clear in the Viva app which nights those parties would take place. Shout outs to certain staff include: Dayreth - very welcoming and enthusiastic about encouraging new participants to join in on the various daily activities that she would lead Leonora - amazing Zumba teacher at the beach Julio - talented photographer and sincere conversationalist Fernando - griller at the buffet, very charismatic and pleasant to chat with Edilzar - super quick at serving/refilling our drinks at the buffet Eduardo - carried our heavy luggage up multiple stairwells with a smile All of these individuals, in addition to the many other hardworking staff who would consistently greet us, helped make our stay much more memorable. Gracias!

We will return ❤️
We spent two fantastic weeks here as a family of three (12 year old daughter) mid August and we can all honestly say what a fantastic place this is. On arrival after a long flight we were greeted by friendly staff who swiftly checked us in and gave us welcome drinks and we were shown to our room, our room was spacious and extremely clean. The buffet restaurant was amazing so much to choose from and all cooked well, we have never seen such a selection of fruit juices in a morning, staff went above and beyond and always served with a smile, just be careful when your wine glass gets 1/2 full or empty that it magically refills 🥳. Wednesday night was fantastic as the complex host little stalls selling local gifts which is a lovely touch, we especially loved the very talented painter who with just his finger tips did the most amazing artwork on tiles. The pool was nice and plenty of sun loungers, we were lucky enough on the second week for the sargassum to have 95% disappeared so for the second week we spent on sun loungers on the beach and swam in the beautiful sea. We went on the catamaran trip with Fernando who is a great member of the company and is a credit to the company. Complex grounds kept spotlessly clean. Negative would be the “welcome pack” this is basically a time share pitch so just be mindful. Staff work so hard and are always smiling and make your holiday so special, big shoutouts to the chefs as food was outstanding and the special waiters Victor and Martin they were outstanding. We will 110% be returning to Viva Azteca ❤️❤️❤️

Visit to Aztec, staying at Maya
Had dinner at bamboo here. The service and food was awesome. Only downside was how warm it was in the restaurant. Lots on the menu to choose from. Would visit again.
