The most amazing entertainment team
This was my first time staying at the Viva Maya By Wyndham and it will certainly not be my last. The main reason being that stood out to me and made the trip that much more enjoyable was the entertainment/animation team. Willy , Hazel, Laura, Leonardo, Haron, Jesus, Carolina, Brandon and Meli all did an absolutely fantastic job keeping myself and the rest of the guests entertained and engaged to the fullest. This was by far the most excellent entertainment/animation team I have ever come across and will definitely be returning to the resort because of these wonderful people.

It took a couple of days to grow on us.
First impressions are very important, especially for those visiting for their first time. You would think Wyndham would know this. As such, we were immediately disappointed with the resort. The front desk guys checking us in were not friendly but it was the heavy smell of pine sol disinfectant in our room and hallways that was an immediate turnoff. The rooms need updating, especially our washroom which had no hot water. There is no bottled water or drinks provided in the rooms and only two very small drawers to unpack your clothes. Once we settled in though, we liked the resort layout and were very happy with the food quality and variety. The Mediterranean restaurant was especially good. The WiFi was also very good throughout the resort. The main pool was crowded and noisy with no shade or swim up bar service. They also need more staff around to clean up dirty glasses, plates and debris from around the pool and beach area. On our 3rd day we located the adult pool, which was much better! The grounds are very nice, as is the beach area. The place started to grow on us as the week went on. We have to give a shout-out to waitress Irene in the upper buffet level and bartender Petro in the Lobby bar. Both were very kind & friendly! Aside from the rooms, we enjoyed our week’s vacation.

Average
Having stayed at numerous all-inclusive resorts throughout Mexico, we were excited to try out Viva Maya By Wyndham in Playa del Carmen. We were disappointed with the luke-warm greeting we received and the apparently unhappy and disengaged staff at the front desk. However, most other staff were pleasant, especially the upper buffet server, Irene and the lobby bartender, Petro. The resort itself is aged and the rooms are tired and need upgrading. The bathroom sink was chest high with no plug, making it hard to brush teeth or shave. Our companions in another room had no hot water. Our took at least 10 min. to heat up. We were surprised the bar fridge was not stocked with at least water. Late night bar staff rolled empty beer barrels down our hall at 3:00 am. On a positive note, the food was quite good in the restaurants and buffet. The main pool was super busy, the water was warm and not refreshing in the 35 degree temperature and there was no shade in the pool. In the mornings, dishes and food were found around the pool edge. You had to lay out your towels at 7 am or you wouldn’t get a lounger. The Adults Only pool was much nicer although the tiles were dirty and were cleaned when people were swimming. No shade in this pool though. The beach has beautiful sand and the ocean is wonderful. There were lots of beach loungers in the shade. Entertainment was quite good the first few days. The dancers were very talented. If you are a smoker, designated areas are very small and not well attended to. Smokers were plentiful and spilled outside the designated areas. Overall, I the resort was average at best and definitely not a 4 star. I would not likely stay there again.

First time at Caribbean
Food is great. Jesus is a fun nice guy who gives great dancing and Zumba classes. Fun time with my friends. Beach is relaxing and a good first experience at the hotel for us. People always playing volleyball on the beach. Mia dances wonderful and the shows are very entertaining.

One week trip in Playa de Carmen
Very nice hotel and very nice people. We wanted to eat more local food and meet more local people. The hotel’s employees are very friendly and approachable, they speak many languages. Espartaco in particular gave us amazing tips! He was very friendly and helped us a lot for our trip during lunchtime.
