Escape the real world at this luxurious Caribbean hideaway. This all-inclusive Cancun resort's specialty is tropical romance so, naturally, the resort offers plenty of wedding and honeymoon packages.
While you may be away from it all, we recommend that you leave the comforts of your room for at least a little, or you'll miss the fabulous food at the resort's eight restaurants. Even breakfast is a gourmet affair at Le Marche, with its omelet station and local fruits and veggies. The casually elegant Taman Sari serves up an eclectic mix of Thai and Indonesian dishes. If you just want to grab a tropical cocktail while you sunbathe on the beach, the Sunrise & Sunset bar is close at-hand. Nine other bars also serve unlimited drinks throughout the resort.
To top off its appeal, the resort continues to show their environmental consciousness through their property, set amid lush, tropical vegetation, providing a tropical background for memories that will last a lifetime. I cannot say enough good things about Valentin Imperial, As my husband and I first stayed here for our honeymoon last year and we HAD to return for our anniversary! Food and service are like no other, and the ambiance the most romantic for all couples. We would especially like to thank Alfonso at the pool bar, who received us both times with a smile, amazing service and the best drinks you will find!
We were here July 10th - 17th. We were a little nervous coming so close to the re-opening. Although a lot of the daily activities were not going on we had an amazing time. The hotel is very clean, the staff is beyond our expectations. The room was exactly as described. We had the option to upgrade but declined and we were not disappointed our original room we choose was great. All the restaurants were amazing. A couple of hiccups at the buffet but I think it was just because they were in different territory with the covid and working through that. I am hoping to go back after all this is over and see how the hotel is with all the activities.
Beautiful but disappointing in many ways
I will preface my review by saying that 1) we visited during the pandemic with all the related precautions/changes that did affect our experience, and 2) this was our 17th stay at a resort in Riviera Maya and our 6th different resort, but first time to VIM. Consequently, we can't help but make comparisons with those other resorts. Checkin: We were dropped off at the resort entrance and escorted to the lobby along with another group. Because they made the others wait on us, they rushed us away without giving us a luggage claim and ignored my husband's questions about where our luggage would be. Checkin was the most difficult we've ever experienced due to the accent/language barrier of the employee we dealt with, but eventually we got through it and were directed to another area to be taken to our room. We were impressed with the face mask PLUS full face shield that every employee wore due to COVID-19. The golf cart and our luggage were sprayed with disinfectant, although it was a very cursory effort and probably not super effective. Rooms: We had reserved a basic deluxe jr. suite, but were upgraded to a silver by Expedia. I had emailed the resort asking for a room in building 4 or 5 (because I didn't know we were being upgraded to the silver buildings 1 and 2) and NOT on the first floor. I reiterated that request when checking in but we were still assigned a first floor room in building 1, or the option to refuse the upgrade and have a second floor deluxe jr. room with two beds instead of one. We chose the first floor room but didn't like the lack of privacy, so returned to the lobby and were moved to a second floor in the same building. So why didn't they give us a second floor room when we asked for it at checkin? Suddenly it's available an hour later? The room has the open bathroom concept which was not a problem for us, but some people don't like it. The seat on the toilet was broken and the shower was tiny - smaller than our standard shower at home, and certainly nothing like any other resort we've stayed at. Closet not very large and only 3 small drawers. Balcony was large with two wicker chairs and an end table. Not bad, but no hammock or bed and no view. Minibar adequate in terms of drinks and our request for 6-8 diet cokes was fulfilled every day, but no snacks other than tiny bags of chips. Only 2 pool towels in the room and we were told to request more from housekeeping if needed (NONE available at pool). We left a note in Spanish AND a tip for housekeeping but only received the extra towels once in 7 days. Grounds: Stunning. Lush, jungly vegetation everywhere. Enjoyed the many fountains and water features throughout the resort except the ones that were stagnant and green with algae. Trash not cleared regularly - we saw water bottles, food, and general trash on the pool deck and walkways that was still not cleared 24 hours later. For us, there was so much vegetation that it was actually a negative as we prefer views of the ocean and/or pool from our room and outdoor dining areas, and it just doesn't feel "beachy" overall. For those who love the "jungle" feel and look, the vegetation/trees will be a plus. We did enjoy seeing lots of birds, iguanas, and coatis. Pools: The main pool is indeed massive and impressive as we had read in the reviews. This is probably the best feature of the entire resort. Plenty of space, fountains, jacuzzis, two swimup bars (although they were closed during our stay). However, the water was full of debris, lots of missing tiles (they were scattered all over the deck), dirty grout. Definitely not maintained to the level I have seen at every other resort, possibly due to the sheer size. Also, not much shade unless you pay to reserve a covered chair/bed ($42 daily I believe). I will address service and activities separately. We walked over to the Golden pool and it was nice but very narrow (more of a lazy river but with no current) and totally empty. If you want solitude and quiet, you might prefer this pool. Service: Good service for the most part but not outstanding. Drink service around the pool was sometimes slow, even though there were very few guests. We had great and friendly service from Alejandro at Taman Sari who recommended menu items upon request and also suggested the "Secret Box Dessert" that is not on the menu. The other standout was Elsi at Mar y Tierra breakfast. She was very friendly and provided fast and accurate service. After the first time she served us, she remembered our drink orders, and asked the chef to make us chilaquiles even though they weren't on the menu (they were fantastic!). Food: Hit and miss. Overall above average. Our favorites were Taman Sari (indonesian), Ginger (Japanese), L'Alsace (french) and a la carte breakfast at Mar y Tierra. Breakfast buffet at Le Marche was very institutional...mediocre quality and selection and hot items were always cold (with the exception of the omelet station). Italian restaurant was average. Activities: This was a big disappointment to us because no daytime activities were offered other than exercise classes (which I participated in every day and it was my first experience with pool biking class!). We understand that this was because of the COVID-19 protocols but felt that they didn't make much effort to adapt in ways that would allow more activities. We had been to Excellence Playa Mujeres a couple of weeks before visiting VIM and they were able to offer MUCH more despite COVID-19....crafts, cooking and cocktail classes, bingo, pool volleyball, etc. They took measures to sanitize equipment and supplies and in some cases changed venues to allow for more social distancing. Very minimal extra expense or effort needed to accomplish that so VIM seemed not to try very hard. They also had absolutely no snacks/food around the pool whereas EPM had their usual wood-fired pizzas and the servers would bring food from a lunch menu. Bright spot in terms of the activities team was Lorenzo from the GO Team who was so sweet and personable and took time to chat with us. He always called us by name any time he saw us anywhere around the resort. Entertainment: We love live music and evening shows so this was another disappointment for us. 90 minutes of music in the early evening, then nothing. No shows, no late night music, no piano bar. The early evening music was apparently various duos and trios made up of members of the house band. Song selection was nice but talent was mediocre. I will qualify this by saying that we live in a city known for live music everywhere and teaming with excellent musicians so our standards are maybe too high. Again, have seen much better at the Excellence Resorts who feature the fabulous Claudia Trevino and are still having the evening shows because they have a much larger plaza and a theatre that allows for social distancing. I realize I have made a lot of negative comments, but we did have a great time soaking up the sun, floating in the pool, and eating and drinking. It was not an unpleasant experience at all, it just doesn't live up to the standards of most of the other resorts we have visited. It was better than RIU, but not as good as The Royal Playa del Carmen, El Dorado Seaside Suites, Excellence Playa Mujeres, or Excellence Riviera Cancun especially in regards to staff, rooms, cleanliness, and overall luxury.
15 Visit shortly after the reopenned after Covid shutdown in Mexico
Once again the trip was terrific. VIM is a fabulous place and the staff did an outstanding job. They were only open with 1/3 of the rooms because of the virus. Now normally VIM has such a big foot print so as to not seem crowded even when they are full, but at one third full, you had zero wait for restaurants, bars, etc. They added service for breakfast and lunch at Terra/Mar and LeMarche but at LeMarche you could also get buffet service. Both types of service worked well. The staff was fantastic. They all used masks and in the restaurants they also used clear shields and gloves. Every other tables was blocked off and only half the restaurants were opened each day, but that was fine. You still had plenty of choice and the food was great. It was very hot in July (we were there from July 6 to July 20). One interesting thing we discovered was at the Mexican restaurant you could eat comfortably outside on the patio. Not many people did it (I think the most we saw in three visits were three tables being used), but you had shade and a cool breeze after 7 PM. People were friendly, but we did see some groups not distancing from each other. We found it was easy to talk with them and keep your distance. We normally like to spend some time on the "quiet beach" (entrance from Buildings 11 and 12) but it really had a bad smell. The bar wasn't open there so it really wasn't a good choice. The main beach bar had taken down the swings, but it was very comfortable in the daytiime to sit at some of the tables while the ocean breeze cooled you off. We found the main pool to be too hot. I actually got out of the pool one afternoon and found my self sweating. The pool by the golden suites was the best. It was cool most of the day. Enjoyed Don Miguel's bar. Again not a lot of people there and they didn't have the piano player. In fact entertainment was cut back but they did have nightly entertainment in the Plaza and at the main pool. We felt very safe and well taken care of. I highly recommend it. Its a great place to go to get pampered while you break from the routine in the Covid 19 era.
Me & my wife just returned from 6 unbelievable days at VIM. Our first visit to this hotel and certainly not our last. We have been vacationing in Cancun & Riviera Maya for past 20 years. With current Covid -19 conditions we did not know what to expect. From the time you arrive and you see the serious precautions the hotel and hotel take, you immediately feel 100% safe here. The extraordinary disinfecting and cleaning goes on throughout the day. Due to current situation, some of hotel amenities and restaurants were not opened. However for our 6 nights we were able to experience most. Shout out to staff members... Erick and Imelda, main pool, unbelievable service. Miguel at Italian restaurant. Danville and Elsi at Mar y Tierra, Mr Vero at Sports Bar, Jesus at main pool activities made us laugh all day. Alex, Virginia at Don Miguel Bar, and the rest of entire staff. These folks work their tails off for the guest. The measures each take daily, getting tested, before, during and their end of shifts. Each required to wear PPE, facial covers, shields, gloves and long sleeves in the heat was remarkable and you never saw anyone complain and always smiling. These folks truly love their jobs. Keep in mind many of these folks monthly earnings are much less then the free money people get in the States. A few dollars here and their will really go a long way. We definitely will return soon and look forward to seeing everyone there.
