    Valentine is wonderful!!

Valentine is a fantastic resort! Even though the weather wasn’t ideal, the activities team stayed on schedule and encouraged everyone to join in, which I really appreciated. The restaurants were well-staffed and offered a variety of unique dishes. Don’t miss the churro cart for a delicious treat! The staff was warm, kind, and accommodating throughout our stay.

    Best Place to vacation!

Everything was amazing, better than expected. 10/10 for food, entertainment, spa and staff. Everyone was kind and welcoming. If you are going to visit this is definitely the place to go. The swimming pool is absolutely incredible. Access to the beach is perfect and just tons of things to do. Also, the experience of the different wildlife you hear and see, is incredible. This really is an amazing place to experience in person. Defiantly would go again.

Great for a chill and relaxed honeymoon!

My and my wife went here for our honeymoon and had a great stay. The concierge was friendly and easy to work with, the room was clean and nice (there was an issue with the sliding door being hard to lock but housekeeping noticed and booked maintenance for us). We also had our safe battery die and maintenance came at a convenient time for us and fixed it. The food everywhere was delicious, this was important to us and a highlight of the trip. The ability to have food delivered to the poolside chairs from the food trucks was especially nice. Don't skip the buffet either, lovely selection including some Mexican specialties like chilaquiles and sopas. The Cafe Sisal was also a great spot, being able to get delicious hot or iced coffees and other beverages and snacks throughout the day was very nice. Coffee often feels like an after thought at resorts and hotels, but not here. The staff were friendly and provided great service, shoutouts to Miguel and Carlos by the pool area, they were fantastic! Room service takes about 45 minutes but they let you know that. Also a second shoutout for our building's concierge Erendi who provided helped us reserve the habachi experience and provided a great book recommendation for my wife! The winding paths through the jungle took a little learning but there are maps, signs and a great little website/app to help you find your way around and all the information you could want about activities, facilities, menus etc. Walking through the forested areas, seeing coatis and iguanas made it feel like a different experience to resorts on the strip. The walks can be a little long, especially in long pants for the evening restaurants so be prepared. The beach isn't the best and it's a bit rocky. This was fine for us because we are pool people through and through and the pools were great. If you like a quieter environment and shaded seats, I recommend using the rectangular pool on the end of the activities pool, it was always a bit emptier and was close enough to still hear the music from the main pool. The golden pool area was even quieter and was very serene. We would normally sleep in, get breakfast and were still able to find covered seats by these two pools. All in all, a great resort in my eyes and one I would definitely consider for return trips!

An Excellent Place to Relax and Have Fun

They certainly know how to have a non-stop party! Accommodations were reasonable, comfortable, clean and modern, food and drink was plentiful (including some gems I'd never find at home), and the staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful. The architecture is splendid: they've found a way to use palm-thatched roofs and cut-away ceilings to blur the lines between indoor and outdoors; in addition to the many porches, pavilions, and roofed walkways, there are many places where one can look up and see a looming pine tree from inside the bathrooms. That's not to say they don't have privacy, but there are many of these "glassless skylights" incorporated into the design, usually in a spot with unused floor space (presumably so one doesn't get rained on). That's utterly unheard of for snow country, and it fascinated me to no end. The whole "campus" is pretty large, consisting of a bit over a dozen buildings and a central "plaza" that connects registration, most of the restaurants, bars, a chapel, and likely others. Although it's not unwalkable, there's a fairly convenient, regular circulation of shuttles (resembling "stretch" golf carts, with at least four benches) touring the roadways. You can call them if you need them--we often didn't, but some of our party needed the additional mobility. My advice, if you're looking at a specific feature, is to check the map ahead of time: buildings 1 and 2 seem close to the plaza, whereas ours (5) was close to the main pool--more on that later. Many in the higher numbers have excellent views of the ocean--on the higher floors on one side, at least. Being on the coast, the tropical clime is usually warm and pleasant--even in the Northern Hemisphere's winter--but it can be occasionally mercurial to the tune of wind and rain, as it was when a tropical storm blew through during our visit. Nevertheless, despite an occasional good soaking rain, there are plenty of places to entertain oneself indoors; the room service is available at most hours and has most everything you could get by walking around. Just note, on the regular sunny, warm days, to pack some sunscreen--you'll need plenty, and the prices at their own concessions are quite marked-up. Water being a personal favorite, my highlight was the "main" pool, with two swim-up bars, a fountain, a couple waterfalls, and very regular entertainment (bands, dancers, volleyball, a "foam party"...), within which the staff (coaches, DJs, and so forth) enjoy informally joining; I heard about, but didn't visit, the other "quieter" pools that were more suitable for relaxation. Beach accommodations look extravagant, but the weather above prevented us from taking much advantage. I will note there seems to be a rather large coral reef just out to sea; up to how willing you are to bring them back with you (responsibly, of course!), some lovely (bleached) coral pieces and conch shells wash ashore regularly. I suspect the groundskeepers (or motivated tourists) take advantage of this, too; the shells can be found accenting the many gardens one sees when wandering the footpaths. Food was pleasant, though I can see it not meeting the utmost standards; they do have quite a multicultural display of restaurants (even a Hibachi show), though I surmise they don't have quite the "industrial" food preparation we have at home that produces "consistent" results. What's great is that, for example, your strawberry banana smoothie will contain real strawberry and real banana; what's trouble is that, as with all real food, sometimes a banana or strawberry can be disappointing. Personally, it was all good for me, but take care of the picky eaters in your party. Besides, with five culturally "themed" restaurants, a buffet, and a beach-side "surf and turf" bar and grill, there will be plenty of opportunity to find something likeable--and quite likely something unexpectedly good. (I'm not much of a bar snob, but I heard the margaritas and piñas coladas were "much better" than at some other "high-brow" establishments. I found them to be excellent, in any case, to my "unrefined" tastes!) Closing thoughts: the wildlife! If you don't live near the Mesoamerican Tropics, chances are you haven't seen their flamboyant birds, quietly regal lizards, and the cute little furry cross between a raccoon and anteater (that have a name I don't remember). Don't feed them, of course, but expect to see them regularly! They, too, blur the line between the buildings and the wilderness, making it somehow feel more like a natural paradise (even when you're returning to an air-conditioned room).

Now I understand why people come back every year

Mother (78) and Daughter (44) trip from Monday through Friday. We stayed in a Deluxe Junior Suite and felt like royalty. The resort is paradise. Seriously, it's like they put Spanish flare on Mexican heaven. Everything is eco-friendly and sustainable. I have never experienced such genuine happiness from every employee. We opted for the Prive package, which was amazing, but we would not do again. The reserved hut at the beach was definitely the best part for us. Also, being able to make reservations at restaurants was also a plus. For our first visit, I'm glad we decided to add the package. Do as much, or as little as you want. There are so many activities and excursions and food. We didn't even get to half the restaurants or shows, so we are excited to return.
