    Resort visit

    The experience at this location was very enjoyable and relaxing. We even had a personal host, Zuleima, that managed all of our agenda and kept us informed on all activities and events throughout the whole visit.

    BEWARE Honest Review: Poor Customer Service, Very Aggressive Upsells & Misleading Direct Booking Promises

    We checked into UNICO on December 29th and unfortunately experienced a frustratingly slow check-in process that took nearly two hours. We finally spoke with Supervisor Miguel afterward. But, no solution was offered that day. Our group of four couples, staying in four separate rooms, is here celebrating an anniversary and two birthdays through January 6th. What should have been a joyful luxury getaway quickly soured due to a resort culture that prioritizes relentless membership sales over fundamental guest service. The check-in process was our first red flag—a glacial ordeal lasting nearly two hours amid understaffed counters and disorganized lines. We finally connected with Supervisor Miguel, Despite booking directly with the hotel seven months in advance and using their online system to select our preferred rooms, we received random assignments scattered far apart, ignoring our requests for proximity and views. Explanations from staff were vague, dismissed as “system limitations”. This was just the beginning. Key Issue: · Some rooms in Building 4 had significant MOLD and a terrible odor, yet we were offered only a downgrade. The resort’s facilities are stunning and good food options—but these positives are undermined by a sales-first mentality that treats guests like prospects rather than valued visitors. Direct bookings come with misleading assurances about room selection, and the overall service feels transactional. UNICO needs to refocus on hospitality before word spreads further. We won’t return, and we advise caution for groups or special-occasion travelers.

    Best vacation ever!!

    My husband and I went on vacation with 5 other couples. Alexander and Alejandro were assigned to us and took exceptional care of us! They checked on us multiple times during the day and made our vacation perfect!

    Like coming home

    This was my third time at Unico and it feels like going home! The property is not overlarge and easy to navigate. The rooms are large, with a king bed, sitting area and balcony with jacuzzi. The oceanfront rooms are the nicest (we were in Bldg. 1) and the higher floors offer the best view. The atmosphere is upscale, with excellent restaurants and first-class food. There is a new French restaurant, Avec, which boasts a French chef, and the offerings reflect that. Service everywhere was excellent. So many people deserve special mention: Berenice and Javier, our butlers, along with their supervisor Marco. The all bent over backwards to make our stay an enjoyable one; Sebastian, who ran the water aerobics with so much enthusiasm and energy that it made you want to exercise; Angie, also entertainment staff with the bubbliest personality on site; servers Angel (2087), Irving (La Carissa), Samuel (Mura House), Luciano (breakfast) Jorge (Avec); Julio Cesar- bellman, and Lucia, who was our pool attendant/server for the whole week, always smiling and friendly no matter how hot or late in the day we were there. There are countless resorts on the Riviera Maya strip. The reason we keep going back to Unico is that we are treated like family, many of the long-term staff remember us and the service is first class. this is a luxury hotel, but we feel it offers the value to justify the price. Unlike the sister hotels, the Hard Rocks, this is an adults only hotel so noise is not really a problem. The entertainment pool is far enough away that anyone not wishing to party will not be bothered, and there is no booming bass at night. The hotel is spotless and always being cleaned. All in all, we can't wait to go back.
